I would tend to agree with you. Not only are many of the PvP'rs only out to "school the noobs", they are very insulting when you don't let them school you.
I can tell the difference between when I have a chance in a fight and when it's time to make a break for it. I really don't need to be insulted when I know if I stay I'm just going to fall in combat. It's annoying. I put a lot of PvP'rs on /gignore due to the ignorant taunting. They can go call names in the school yard if they want. I'm not playing a game to deal with bullies.
Unfortunately, that's all some PvP'r are; they are just bullies and that's it. I'm not saying that's all of them, but I have run into some of them that are.

To me, the complaints about DR, etc. pretty much come down to, we aren't uber powerful any more; aka they aren't 100% guaranteed that they will be able to school a noob.

Yes. No one wants to loose all the time. If you are fighting an uphill battle that you know you can't win without having maxed out IO sets, the hill is a pretty mighty one to climb for a new PvPr.

So yeah, lighten up in the PvP zones until they get more populated and then have some good fights. Camping on the doorstep, et al. ganker-esque tactics should be not be used. There is plenty of room in zones to PvP. Play the zone and don't abuse it.
We all might find that there is more going on in PvP zones and that they start becoming a lot more fun.

EDIT ::

I read some of the garbage replies on this thread.
What you don't understand is "the point".

It has nothing to do with "letting someone else win".
It is about an enjoyable experience for everyone.
When you can easily defeat someone, leave them alone unless they attack you. The only point in defeating them repeatedly is bullying.
If name calling, etc. is okay in PvP, then, yeah, screw PvP. That will turn people off immediately. It isn't about having a thin skin, it's a matter of you are trying to do something that you are new at and you are being verbally abused. That's not cool. You are not cool for doing it. You are being a jerk for doing it. And, as I said, you're just going to get /gignored by me, so what good is it doing you as a PvP'r to be /gingored?

If you can't understand why what was posted was posted by the OP, then I sort of feel sorry for you....the part of me that doesn't just want to /gignore you and make you a non-entity (aka pretty much "killing you" in this PvP arena in my world view.)

[/ QUOTE ]

That is the smartest thing I have seen a PvP person say on these forums. It is 100% true, and why I dont go in the zones much at all. If I dont want to deal with punk jackasses I dont go where they are. Simple as that.

That's the reason I stay out of the PvP zones, unless I'm there for a badge. Not to say I couldn't handle myself--I just prefer to avoid people with sorry-[censored], immature, child-like, just-hit-puberty type of behavior. Just generally not my cup of tea...

On a related note, the OP reminded me of a recent story where I took my MA/SR scrapper into RV for some badge grinding... I was busy minding my own business pounding away at one of those turret-thingies, and WHAM! A stalker hits me from behind... I sighed, hit a small green insp, turned around and took him down in 3 shots. Then, I turned around and kept pounding away. He actually hit a rez and started dizzily backing away from me as if I wouldn't notice--haha! However, acting like a true "hero", I let him run off, and continued my primary objective for being in the zone. about 2 minutes later, BAM! There he is again for the "rematch." *sigh* Hit [Elude], typed "Dude, I'm just tryin' to get a badge", and kept pounding away at one of the turrets... But he was like a mosquito! So, I eventually turned around and pounded him into the ground again. This went on about 4 or 5 times, before he sent me a tell saying "Ok, I'll leave you alone."

"'Bout time", I thought.

Some people just don't give up--So, I completely understand your "gank" situation, ESPECIALLY on a toon that can't take the pounding... God help you if you're there as a badger.

I really wish they would take Badging out of PvP zones altogether.

The above is a prime example of how I would like all badgers in PvP zones to act, but that rarely happens. Usually, I will end up with said badger screaming in broadcast because he can't get his badge. I admire the people/the badgers who actually work for their PvP badges.

People say they invision PvPers as Pre-Pubescent bullies walking the playground. I can't entirely fault that assessment, because it does fit the bill more often than now.

I seriously invision badgers as screaming toddlers who need to be catered to because they can't survive any other way. Does that fit all badgers? Nope, no where near. But it does fit the screamers who can't get what they want.

(Disclaimer: This post was written at different times during the last half hour and I can't even remember what my point was. Bonus points for whoever can figure it out)

TL/DR version: People who badge should badge like AlienOne. People who whine should accept the fact that there may be some badges they never will get.

The guy was probably just trying to score a kill in PvP. It's really not too much to ask in a PvP zone.

I did have this little episode last night in RV where an elec brute Kept insulting me over broadcast and I stayed perfectly silent. There were moments when I dealt sufficient damage to make him feel threatened. When this happened he would accuse me of using yellow inspirations. Can you believe it? He expected me to just sit there and take his verbal abuses while he sits there in a position of impunity and comfort, and when I actually get to hit him he accuses me of using inspirations. (I actually used Geas of the Kind Ones, which I thought was okay considering the fact he was using the Nemesis Staff constantly)

After beating him back, but not being able to successfully kill him, an exact visual copy with the same power sets comes along and they ganged up on me. Knowing I could not winagainst the damage output of two enemies, I fled. This erupted in beratement and name calling. I never said a thing. I ignored them and tried to move on to some other activity. But they wouldn't stop following me to score some cheap tag-team kill.
I eventually left to do something else. I just couldn't tolerate that poor sportsmanship.

Sounds like you should of had broadcast chat turned off.

Teaming up to kill someone in a PvP zone is not cheap - its called using the mechanics of the game.
Not saying you did anything wrong by leaving, but there are other options. You could of:
1. Gotten a friend to PvP with you and evened the odds
2. Done some shadow games and try to get them seperated, then attempt to get the kill on one of them.
3. Switched to a different toon that might have handled the 2v1 better. (only applicable if you had one).

I should've turned broadcast off. The only thing that makes me hesitate about that is that there are extremely rare cases where there are PvPers who are helpful and give constructive feedback on performance.

I could definitely see how the arena could've been a different experience as there would not have been heavies and stray NPC fire. I want to make it clear before anyone calls this out on me: Fightclub is not my aim. I would've loved a team, but at the same time I believe in balanced representation.

I read through some of the thread but got bored, so this might've already been said.

Compare the following two statements:

"It's your own fault. You shouldn't have started whining on broadcast. Of course people are going to start verbally abusing you if you do that!"

"It's your own fault. If you hadn't worn that skimpy dress they would've probably left you alone."

Now, I know comparing trash talking to [censored] is a bit inflammatory, but I'm shooting for the general attitude here, that of blaming the victim.

Edit: Gaah, I hate censorship ><. The word that got censored describes the act of forcing someone to a sexual contact.

Sorry, but not even remotely similair.

A more accurate comparison would be:

"It's your own fault. You shouldn't have started whining on broadcast. Of course people are going to start verbally abusing you if you do that!"

"It's your own fault. If you hadn't yelled the N word at a Black Panthers meeting, maybe you wouldn't be in a body cast."

When you make yourself a victim, you own some of the blame.

Your analogy is incorrect. People get made for being PvP'd with in a PvP zone (and/or sometimes in for being PvP'd with outside of their own personal "rules"). There is no suck thing as a "sexual assualt zone" it is never alright to do so. Your analogy is similar to the Internet desparation of calling someone a Nazi because you don't agree with them. Both of these compare an in game behavior you don't like so some of humanity's worst atrocities. Doing so is incorrect, inflammatory and insulting to anyone who is a real victim.

No, you misunderstood me (although I should've seen it coming; using this sort of analogy never works on the internet). I'm not trying to compare thrashtalking to sexual assault, I'm comparing the attitudes which people are met with afterwards.

What I'm basically trying to point out is that I think that just because someone speaks up against being repeatedly killed by a group of other players, without giving them a reward and without posing a challenge it's not ok for said players to start verbally abusing them.

Edit: Me fail english? Unpossible!

Posted

It doesn't matter much, because such abuses can and do happen without verbal instigation. The possibility of verbal abuse for performing PvP acts within the parameters of non-expoitative PvP contact makes contact and even attendance unattractive.

I think the devs designed RV rather well in this regard: That if you piss of your voluntarily represented "content" with enough beratement they will remove themselves from the zone and you will be unable to reap some of the greater benefits. Imagine if Tyrant or Lord Recluse would despawn because of verbal abuse without granting you a mission completion. That's how I see PvP attendance. The victim is empowered and they don't even realize it.

I think the IO drops helped a little bit in enforcing some social restrain to the effect of "shut your mouth if you want the villain/hero to stay so that you may get your PvP IO."

Ok, took a new build to WB on Freedom today to test a few things. I wanted to see how new PvPers that nobody knows is treated in PvP and wanted to also see how a build would work out.

Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.

My findings....

Took a Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build. I am not IOed out, only level 37, and speced with SOs only, so I knew I was not going to pwn very many people, if anyone at all... So no big deal.

Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.

Now don't get me wrong, I could actually care less, as I feel personally that PvP in this game has been busted ever since RV was released, and has continuously gotten worse since then, so I don't PvP much anymore anyhow. But when I actually had an interest in trying it out again, I get continuously ganked.

Now, I have a point to make here, and here it goes......Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.

I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.

I am an old has been of PvP, started PvPing when Arena came out, and was hard core until RV came out. Once IOs came out, that was enough for me.

I just wanted to point out my findings, from a new players perspective. That is honestly not the way to pull in more people to PvP.

Anyway, hope this reaches certain people and opens the minds of others. I see too much "DOOOOOM!" sayers to PvP because of the lack of PvP population. If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.

Personally, I don't care. I thought about getting back into it for about ten minutes, after seeing how I was dealt with, I honestly care not to get back into it again. In short, chill out on the new guys.

[/ QUOTE ]

Me and two buddies of mine poked our heads into the RV to experiment with PvP and see if we could get a handle on it or if it was worth investing time and interest in.
After three hours of constant ganking, trash talk that was beyond simply funny or cheesy banter and well into personally offensive, and discovering that we would have to learn an entire new ruleset, we concluded that PvP is broken, not worth the time, and the people that participate in it have the incredible ability to kill any interest in it in record time.

Stand UP.
