All you DOOOOM sayers, listen up. (PvP Population)
I don't understand why players can't do both.
If ya want to fight club...then fight club.
If ya don't want to fight club...then don't.
If a player says he wants to duel, I leave him alone.
If a player is dueling and another guy comes up to gank them (and I happen to be there)...I attack the ganker.
However, if the player is a big trash talker...all bets are off...I whip em!!!
The dueling and fiteklubbing has gotten out of hand in zone pvp, I don't remember this happening alot in other games with zone-based pvp. as Please_Rewind said, there's arenas for that.
Johnny:
If you want to control the pvp environment, ensure that there's no trash talking, moving, using phase/hibernate, stacked vengeance, or whatever, "Go to the Arena"
Seriously. You can effectively "kick someone" from an arena event. Why do you want in the zones?
Or put another way:
You all ready have the ability to do all the things you want to do. Just bring it to the arena. But nowhere other than the zones can people engage in open zone pvp. If you all ready have a place that has the features you want, why do you begrudge others the only place with the features they prefer?
Not to be mean, but that seems rather selfish and narrow minded. Say what you will about Mission Architect, whether it's a development punt or not, but now that you have the ability to create almost any mission you care to, it seems rather childish to complain about a pve mission. Similarly, if you can go to the arena and set it up almost any way you choose, it seems childish to me to complain about the zones.
Opinions vary, but your position mystifies me.

You're saying a whole lot of things as if I brought them up....which I didnt. All I did was say that I advocate a feature that may or may not allow for verbally abusive chatter. IE: a way to remove those people, temporarily, from the zone.
The rest....well, i think.....you made it up so that you could.....type more letters or sompin. :P
I never said anything about kicking phasers/hibernaters, power stackers, or any of that stuff. I didnt complain about the zone either. What I did say was that I am all for toning things down on chat for our more sensitive sided folk......so they stay longer and I can kill them more.
Wow. Where to start?
People who PvP in zones "regularly" are generally bad PvPers who play by a made up set of rules. Thus, these players can't be given the power to determine who PvPs in zones.
The vast majority of "good PvPers" who still play this game are total [censored], and would abuse the power to kick players from zones, regardless of consequences.
Trash talk isn't hard to deal with. You can either ignore trash talk completely, verbally abuse the trash talker, or simply start RPing (that one works the best).
Argue that some trash talk is "too abusive" all you want. The fact is that all trash talk is typed into the same chat box of the same game, and only carries as much potency as the reader allows it to.

Im far from good, but yeah, you don't want to give anyone the power to kick/timeout people in zones. I am an [censored]

RPing is so awesome to use when you PvP

And finally...I totally agree. There are several ingame means to stop trash talking if you hate it so. You can A) turn off faction chat (doesn't always work in warburg, but can be effective). B) /ignore the person who is irritating you. C) Make a PvP tab that only has team/SG chat on it and then turn this tab on when you are in a zone. That way, you can see the chat that should matter to you.
Imposing rules in a zone is retarded and anyone who thinks the opposite is an idiot.

I made a guide on how to deal with abusive chat in PvP zones.
Really, it isn't that hard.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
lol, not a single trustworthy person among pvp'rs......?
What does that say about them as a group? It's no wonder at all why folks without thick skin never come back.
You're right and I digress, since none among you is worthy.
It's not that it's just pvpers that are untrustworthy. It's that anonymity on the internet tends to turn even Joe Normal into a raging dingwad (See also: Gabriel's Internet Theory). There's no consequence save maybe a brief suspension for severe griefing. So what's to stop someone from kicking people for 'the lulz' or because they can or because they pissed off the fight clubbers or Fabulous League of eRPvpers? Nothing. And that's why I think it's a bad idea.
The pvp crowd isn't much different from too many others on other MMOs. It's simply seen as 'more competitive' and we all know what happens when things get competitive. People might talk trash. Personally, it's best to shrug it off unless it's obscene, racist or hate speech. In which case you report it and let the GMs do their thing.
And that would count you as unworthy too, Mr. Deadsidepants.
I can handle the responsibility of that power just fine. I did it on another mmo and was never reprimanded for abuse of my power. It was quite a competitive atmosphere.
Of course Im old and stress alot less about losing too, lol.
Either way, it's apparent that rules arent wanted, nor followed, afa pvp and general personal conduct is concerned. There is almost 0 accountability for ones actions now and it seems.....thats just how folks like it.
I was just hoping for a better way of keeping our thin skinned nubs.

This this whole thing was pretty much came down to you thinking you should be given power lolz. Honestly you sound like a loser who thinks everyone should be given a trophy for participation. The zones have been populated just fine lately, I say keep the thin skinned nubs out we don't wanna listen to their [censored] and moaning.
Look. How can I believe and trust you over say, any other person? I don't and I can't. You can turn off channels, chat display and tells or report someone if someone really is bugging you. There will always be putzes.
For better or worse, people can be jerks online without getting a real time punch to the face. That's just how it works. While I'm fine with people getting a reward for coming in and trying out pvp, I really can't see how booting people will help. Just use your magical ignore button.
I think part of the problem is in difference between pve and pvp: pve is relative easy in most cases and gives people illusion of being good however facing other players in pvp enviroment who do not want to lose for sure, many get to realize they can't just do it like in pve and lack of skills gets usually replaced with trash talk due some certain individuums being lil too raged about how "unfair" is the world (or own incompetence ^_^ ).
peee vee pee is srs bzns.... ;D

and sadly it 's the same in pvp for a lot (too much in fact) of build that "pWnZ" in pvp.
i personnally don't think that pvp require more skills than PvE.
it's been a long time since PvP just ignore the role each AT is supposed to fufill
damage, damage, damage oh and sometimes +damage buff and it's all
bring back PvP under normal PvE rules (and by that i'm not talking about pré i13 pvp) give back each AT one, and only one speciality (lol tanks that deals brute damage level, lol everyone being able to mezz, lol defender/controller asking for more damage) and maybe the skill of PvP'er will be what makes the difference.

Do you seriously think PvE skill and PvP skill are equal?
Two scenarios:
PvE - 3 blasters, 2 sonics, 2 empaths, 1 kinetic (Standard i11 Jump team). Team is doing level 50 missions on invinc. Blasters are able to hold aggro because of their emense damage, thereby keeping the 2 empaths from taking any damage. One empath could go AFK if they wanted to, because there is no fear of getting killed.
PvP - 3 blasters, 2 sonics, 2 empaths, 1 kinetic. No matter how much you try, its really hard to get real people to herd up into a corner like the computer AI will. It is also really hard to force a person to target the guy doing the damage when he is unkillable due to his 2 pocket healers.
Short answer: PvP takes x10 as much skill because you have a person who can do actual problem solving on the other side of the screen. If you can't see that - Then I feel sorry for you.
Truely skilled players will be able to take any AT/build and beat someone who is playing a FOTM but isn't very good. You Could easily tell the skill level of the team/person by how well they played whatever character they happened to be on.
I agree that PvP needs to revert to PvE rules and, im sorry, but prei13 is just that. Each AT had their own role pre i13. In larger team formats, certain ATs became less viable - but not unuseable and certain not gimp.
Old PvP - Very dynamic team setups with lots of counters for each
New PvP - If everyone brings random ATs/powers, you might have a balanced fight. OR, you can bring the 4 or 5 viable sets and destory the other team that doesn't have them.
Old PvP had its flaws, but they were minor.

At no point did I say I deserved power of any type. Those are your words kiddo. That "power" was given to me by that games community. I never said I wanted to be one of the people in this game who monitored the misfits. I personally dont care who does it, so long as they take it seriously and have to answer for their own actions when wielding that authority.
Name calling only makes me think you're an angry little 15 year old enjoying thier anonymous internet persona. FYI everyone does get a trophy for being in pvp if they are there long enough. They are called badges.
The zones are not populated just fine, that's absurd to say. Maybe in your after school time slot they work for you, but it's not true for all servers or all time slots. Not all are as "lucky" as you claim to be.
And "keep the thin skinned nubs out" is exactly the type of response that has aided in lowering our pvp populations.
You don't wanna listen to them pissing and moaning? Maybe they dont wanna listen to the all the trash talk, rude comments, and personal attacks? If most of the pvp vets weren't such tools, most of the nubs would do a little less pissing and moaning, I suspect.
While I disagree with most of what you said, you are very entitled to your opinion and I can respect that you disagree with me. We'll just have to agree, to disagree.
Most PvP vets aren't tools though. Just a very vocal minority are.

JohnnyDeadSide (no quote pyramid) so we can at least agree to disagree. But if you think it was trash talking that killed PVP I'm not to sure what to say. Well except for I think I13 did it not the trash in the zones.
I only play on freedom so yes the PvP zones are picking up their a great deal. Can't comment on the other servers.

"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Lucky.....I dont think trash talk killed pvp. But I know some of the foul attitudes can discourage some newer players from returning.

When was practice scheduled? I didn't notice it on the dUmb boards and I didn't notice it here.
I put it in the MoTD. Guildportal has been so laggy I can barely post. Every Thursday at 9 we're either matching or practicing.

Thank you for the replies.
I would like to analyze these two quotes as an example of what would happen in the zone if I were given the "time out" button.
Slax

That goes against the spirit of zone PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now while we may not agree on the spirit of PvP now, Slax does remain somewhat civil. This is a clear indicator to me that (s)he is being filled with the Fight Club spirit as I have not too long ago.
Although Slax is not fully to our side yet, I can sense the inner struggle and would be more forgiving. I would not "time out" Slax because I would prefer as much exposure to the positive Fight Club energy as possible.
There is hope for you my friend.

Would you please [censored] already. I mean seriously, this fiteklub [censored] got old a long time ago. They made a whole issue to fight under controlled circumstances in I4. When will you [censored] learn?

Now Please_Rewind has been so severly tainted by the old ways that I would have no choice but to hit the "time out" button. It is something that I would use liberaly to provide as much time for self reflection as possible until I see the walls of evil have been broken through.
You are on a downward spiral my friend, it is time to open up your heart and mind to the Fight Club. It's the only way you will ever break free from the evil chains that bind you and control your thoughts and actions.
