Discussion: What was your Favorite Feature of 2008

With a certain well hyped, high-on-disk-space low-on-content $40 expansion to a certain other MMO coming out so recently, I'm glad to see at least one publication got it right anyway.

Congrats to City of Heroes, and congrats to Massively for getting it right.

My Favorite Improvements of 2008
1) Powerset Proliferation (May 2008) = more customization in a game that was built on it
2) Interface extensions (May, December 2008) = multiple power trays, contact sorting, badge sorting, click-on-name chat context menus, etc.
3) Real Numbers (February 2008) = a gift to minmaxers that doesn't impede casual play

Giving us access to real numbers in the game was the best feature for me (Combat Attribute Window, enhancement window info, pop up info).

Other good features:

VEATs

Optional Character Slots Purchases

Player Notes

Zone Event System Message Channels

Ability to combine inspirations

Multiple builds

Toggle dropping changes

Oh man, so much good stuff!

Inspiration exchanging
The Midnighter/Cimeroian content
New Blaster defiance
Invuln buffs (still on the fence as to how much MORE survivable it is, but mweh, it's something!)
New sets: I played alongside a pain dom during a level 50 ITF... on my level 45 tank. I've never felt more powerful! Screw lack of a recovery aura, Pain dom ROCKS and is making me consider rolling a villain just so I can team up with them more often!
Merit system is still a work in progress, but I think it's a great new way to get "t3h shineiz"
Badge/Contact reorganizing
Combat attributes!

Basically, it's a whole different beast than it was a year and a half ago, and much better for it. Keep up the great work, Devs!

-STEELE =)

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

PvP revamp ftw! <.< >.>

Umm.. jk?

I'd have to say SoA's and Kheld changes were on the top of my list. Pain Domination is another one that was up there.

I'd choose the PvP changes but I'd probably get flamed down to the 9th circle of hell or something. So I'll say the Hollows makeover. Go Skulls girlfriends!

The new Defiance, hands down.

But followed closely by Inspiration Combining and Real Numbers....

I'm new, so still having fun with all the unfamiliar Issue 1 to Issue 11 content

The two things on the list for this year that have pleased me the most are

1. AoE Upgrades for MMs - saves so much set up time both at the start and during missions.

2. Unlocked Contact Pop Ups - as someone who doesn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game I can safely say that if this didn't happen I'd never find these guys, and some of them are very good fun.

Oh, my doG YES!

I realize many folks don't understand why some of us think this is a Great Feature, but it lets me play any and all of my characters, at any time without having to worry about "managing" contacts, debt, badges, Safeguards etc. This puts control right smack dab in the players hands.

Theres a bunch of us (and I never thought I'd say this) just giddy about this feature. All I have to say, in any context is, "no xp" and it's smiles all around. Weird, I know, but there it is.

This is the best "nothing" I've ever been given!

What was your favorite feature of 2008?

[/ QUOTE ]

Powerset Proliferation. Not specifically due to the sets that were proliferated, but due to the philosophy change that will allow players a greater range of character creation options as proliferation continues.

There were many other great changes, including UI changes and content additions, but if I have to pick my single favorite, it is that.

Please try my custom mission arcs!
Legacy of a Rogue (ID 459586, Entry for Dr. Aeon's Third Challenge)
Death for Dollars! (ID 1050)
Dr. Duplicate's Dastardly Dare (ID 1218)
Win the Past, Own the Future (ID 1429)

Tough choice.

#1 VEATS
#2 General QOL improvements
#3 the ITF

I have to echo this, though Powerset Proliferation might take 3rd place...

It's at least tied for it.

Powerset Proliferation for sure. More please as soon as possible. Side by side new Powersets of course.

If I had to pick just ONE:

The Invuln changes for i13. If I was allowed to pick three, probably that, and the badge UI redesign, and the Level Pact system. (Please add higher cutoffs, and more participants (at least 3) soon!

"Superman died fighting Doomsday because he allowed his toggles to drop, and didn't beat Doomsday before Unstoppable wore off, sad really..."

I have to say the leveling pact. My wife and I create toons together and the ability to stay in sync even if I play when she's not around is awesome for us. Patrol XP comes in a close second, since I have a pretty bad case of alt-itis.

In no particular order.
[*] The ITF / Cimerora / the foes in them.[*] Villain epic ATs, including the seeming shift in perspective for that bled over to Kheldians[*] Ongoing improvements in the interface, such as additional trays, increased context menus and (along with the expansion of this) access to players/characters via clicking on their chat names.

Overall favorite? That's hard, but I will pick Cimerora.

If I could have cheated the start date on this back 33 days into 2007, I would have had Purple IOs and Real Numbers on that list. Cimerora still probably would have won.

Blue
American Steele: 50 BS/Inv
Nightfall: 50 DDD
Sable Slayer: 50 DM/Rgn
Fortune's Shadow: 50 Dark/Psi
WinterStrike: 47 Ice/Dev
Quantum Well: 43 Inv/EM
Twilit Destiny: 43 MA/DA
Red
Shadowslip: 50 DDC
Final Rest: 50 MA/Rgn
Abyssal Frost: 50 Ice/Dark
Golden Ember: 50 SM/FA

Favorite:

- More Real Numbers! I'm not a min/max type, but I do like to see what I'm buying.

Runner-ups:

- Hollows revamp. I'm actually making good use of the zone now. I used to avoid it like the plague in the lower levels.

- Powerset Proliferation. I'm enjoying Storm Summoning for masterminds and Earth Control for dominators, among other things.

I'm a big fan of:

The ITF
The Kheldian chances
Powerset Proliferation
Real Numbers feature
Masterminds can now buff all pets at once
New costumes!
The kind, helpful parts of the community!

Gratz! Didn't think I would ever say that to the Devs.
Anyway, you guys have done a great job. Been playing for over 4 yrs and dont even know were to start. You have added so much and brought this game sooooo farrrrr. Tried just about all the MMORPG and come back to CoX every time. Thanks a ton.

Id have to say just the "thought" that we'll be getting some base love....

If its broke, don't fix it... I like the chaos!

Posted

1) Kheldian fix
2)Shields
3)Rikti raids
4)winning a vid card from the CC

NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.

Getting rid of the raid pathing. It's really opened up the floodgates of creativity among the base building community.

Powerset Proliferation. Not as good as all new sets would be, but the next best thing.

More costume sets and pieces. More choices is always better.

Now, while I understand everybody enjoys a good pat on the back for a job well done, it's criticism that points out where things need improving. So I will flip the coin and also list what I consider the worst features.

Microtransactions becoming more frequent. While new costumes are great being expected to pay extra for them is taking corporate greed over the edge.

VEATs. As if the regular villains aren't made to feel enough like flunkies already, the reward for attaining a level 50 is the privilage of creating a character that actually is an Arachnos lacky.

I wasn't here for 11.5, but I think I was here for the launch of 12. Anyhoo, my favorites:

-Combat Attribute Window. I love being able to see the numbers on the fly, especially handy on my blaster and defenders.

-XP Curve Adjustment. It has reduced the 'leveling doldrums' quite efficiently for me.

-Mission Drop timer reduced to 3 days. Seeing as I *never* do blue cave missions while solo - I'm colorblind and they're impossible for me to navigate - I can shelve the character for 3 days and then auto-complete it.

-Super Strength/Rage crash change.

-Force Field/Repulsion Bomb changed to knockdown.

-Spammer combat initiative.

-Powerset proliferation! (Need more, please! Thermal for Defenders and Poison for Corruptors, please )

-More Character Slots! Hurray!

-Leveling up Bonus

-The ability to gain influence while in SG mode

-Unlockable Weapons

-Additional powers in Epic Power Pools

-Merit Rewards (most of the time, at least)

There's more, but my cookies are done and I have to go.
