My brother and I did the same thing and had the same problem last night. But I got up this morning and was able to get on fine. You just need to give them time to get you reactivated, or that's my analysis of what happened.

Yea i just had someone explain to me that it can take 24-72 hours for the test server to replicate the reactivation...thanks for the help tho

OK, fanboi...

1) IE7 has had less vulnerabilities than Safari (go look it up).

2) Windows also 'respects' the browser choice, it is NCSoft that has hard coded the launcher to use IE for the load page. This is an issue you need to take up with NCSoft instead of bashing Windows over.

I believe it's available right away...WHEN it's available. You won't have access to it until retail activation codes for the Mac edition are available.

Respect for your browser choice is a function of the application, not the OS. It all depends on how lazy the programmers were.

I let my updater go overnight and it finally connected, but was downloading ridiculously slow. These two tips let me get right into the action:

If you happen to have a Mac which you've been Bootcamping to run COH, you should be able to cheat a bit on the size of the download.

First you download the Mac client from the site above. Don't run it yet, just put it in your applications folder. Then right (or ctrl) click it and show package contents.
Drill down to :
contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/coh/

Then go onto your Bootcamp partition and go into:
/Programs/City of Heroes
There will be a folder called piggs
This folder contains most of the bulky downloaded stuff such as graphics and sounds.

If you copy this file across from the partition to the Mac application location indicated above, it should speed up the launch appreciably as you will be spared downloading 2.7 GB of stuff.

With the caveats, though, that:
The file seemed to be called CohTest.checksum, not CoH.checksum and
All the .piggs came through 'locked' - a small lock icon, and 'locked' checked in the info.

Once I unlocked all the .piggs so that the updater could overwrite the couple that needed changing, everything worked just fine. I spent some time bouncing around the deserted streets of RV, checking out the performance. I discovered that, while booted into XP on this computer I have to set the graphics to the second lowest setting ('performance', I think?) to get acceptable framerates, on the OSX side I can get away with 'recommended' as long as I go into the advanced options and turn off water effects, which was a nice surprise. I suppose it's because there are no updated drivers available for the windows side, so the graphics card there is running off 2+ year old drivers (2+ year old macbook pro, X1600 graphics, 1 gig ram).

And, guess what I found running around RV?

First purple ever for me, and it just *has* to be on the test server where it's totally worthless. I don't suppose this proc is worth very much even on live, but even so it's annoying. And, yet, still pretty cool.

[edit] Also, it is just me, or are the AVs/Heroes in RV ridiculously powerful? Even after I managed to get posi to drone himself, manticore chewed straight through a shivan, a heavy, jack frost, and some random other temp pets I had all at the same time and then two-shotted me as I jumped away, losing at most 40% of his health. There are people who solo these things? He doesn't list a level, is it because he's level 54, like the heavies/turrets?

has anyone used this on one of the new iMacs? i recently bought one of the new 2.4GHz 20" jobbies... it was supposed to complement my PC laptop, but i find myself enjoying it more lately

can the ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128MB handle the game ok at decent settings? or am i going to have to ghetto-out? i have 4gb of ram, so that shouldn't be a problem... just worried about the gfx card.

i usually play on a DELL Vostro 1500 laptop with an NVidia 8600GT @ 1680x1050, my iMac is the same resolution but a nice 20" screen so i would really like to play on it if i don't have to sacrifice too much in the way of eye candy goodies.

i know i could just try it out, but between the download for patching, the fact that it's testserver only at the moment and that i am currently at work means i am keen to get some opinions from others first.

Hi quick question! I pre-ordered the mac version but intend to play with my existing account (as you can see it's an old one). To use the Beta acct number I got, will I still be able to play with old acct in Beta? Or will I be forced into the new account even if I have the client.

Apologies if this has been answered, I read through the thread but may have missed it.

As Positron had pointed out in his original announcement, two clients one world.

The Mac Client and PC Client will be playing the same servers.

The special Costume and Power that is part of the "Mac Client" is to be available later via microtransactions later, but if you want them when they come out, you can upgrade (repeat UPGRADE) your account with the Mac Client code.

You can still play the PC Client with a Mac Client code.

It should be ok. Try it out (graphics set to "Recommended" just in case) and report back your findinds.

It's not going to look as nice as an 8600GT but it shouldn't be too far off.

You can use your same old account forever. When you get the new Mac version Key, "UPGRADE" your account, don't "ADD". That way you can play all your existing characters, plus get the extra rewards. Either way, you won't need a new account to play the Mac version.

Yes. Make a copy of the City of Heroes application and call it City of Heroes (2). Now you can run them both at once.

I have a first generation Intel iMac with a 20" screen, and it plays well at decent settings. (And only 1.5 GB RAM.)

Hey folks,

Is there a trick to logging into the Mac open beta? I'm not a current CoH subscriber (though this may change very soon), but I do have an NC Soft account and I can login to the beta just fine.

My friend on the other hand, can not. She signed up for a new NC Soft account this morning and input her email address into the beta site and 12 hours later, can still not login to the open beta. She even tried signing up for the 14-day free trial to see if that makes any difference and so far, no dice.

Is this an issue that just has to be waited out? Or is there some trick we're missing? Thanks!

It can take up to 24 hours for new accounts to show up on the Test Server which the Open Beta is using. It happens instantly for the Live Server, only extra lag for this server. Give it a day to activate.

People will say it takes time

Other people will say it takes 24-72 hours.

The authentication server that supplies logins does have a refresh period. It takes time.

Hmm, I wonder if it might be possible to get HeroStats working with Mono? Mono is an open-source re-implementation of the .Net runtime for Unix-like platforms (including OS X). The main development is being managed by Novell. I think the .Net API's might be somewhat limited right now for Mono, though, so not reallly sure if you could get HeroStats working, but might be worth a check?

The biggest problem is that Transgaming (and WINE in general) uses a virtual C: Drive that the application, all the support .dlls, and driver foolie bits live on. This means that the game chat (from which I gather HeroStats yoinks a lot of its data) doesn't really interface with the Host OS. If you could intercept the client data stream from outside that virtual C drive, then there are lots of ways to code a Herostats-alike.

If you were using the Closed Mac Beta do you need to download the Open Mac Beta? Does the 'open' app point to a different server or provide a better beta app than the one I've been using for a month now?

You should download the new beta. Definitely points to a different server, and far safer to just let it do the update overnight than try to cobble things together to fix it.
