Mac Open Beta

Unfortunately, I'm over my bandwidth cap for the month, so I'll be out of Open Beta for a while (no b/w to d/l the new client) but good luck to everybody! Hope to see some good discussion on the hard work done to make this client a reality!
Finally! I've been running coh through bootcamp for so long, it's going to be nice not to have to pay for virus protection, the latest windows os (in addition to the latest mac os), etc. Quick question, I've been playing a character through a windows client for a few weeks. Will I be able to continue using that character using the mac client?

Yep, you can to login on anyone's machine and have access to all of your characters. Doesn't matter if it's Mac or Windows. I've been playing with existing toons that I already had on the test server with no problems at all. In fact running the Mac client on the same machine I was using to play CoH through Boot Camp is actually getting me better overall performance.

Yes, it all uses the same accounts and servers. Just make sure if you actually purchase the Mac client (you won't need to if you have an active COH account), you use the code to upgrade your current account.
Too many alts to list.

after the beta is over on the same server your character is already on.... as long as you use the same account, its the same characters
If I buy/pre-order the Mac version right now, will I get a code that I can use right away on the open beta, or will I have to wait for the actual release? I'd like to shake off the trial restrictions, but I'd prefer not to spend the money at this moment if I can't use the code straight away.

That's right, we here at the City of Heroes/Villains community welcomes everyone who has a Mac to come try out the wonderfull game we PC Users have been playing for the past five years.
Yep. All ten of you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep been playing it since it first came out on various PCs, then when I decided to buy a Mac because I was sick of dealing with MS Windows, I got a copy of Xp and set up dual-booting. I still have to use Windows to play games, but at least its only for gaming. I use the Mac OS/x side for anything serious. That way I don't have to constantly reinstall Windows because it gets bloated with crap. I also don't really have to worry about drivers since the Mac Bootcamp software informs me when new drivers are out. Its effortless.
Given that the Mac Pro is one of the most popular selling laptops at the moment, particularly amongst college aged purchasers, I think you are going to see an increasing number of games supporting Mac OS/x down the road. In the meantime a *lot* of people dual boot to XP or Vista to play games like I do.
I get kinda sick of the anti-mac crowd out there who can't resist making smart-[censored] remarks like yours. There are millions of us Mac users out there who play games these days, and its only growing. Most of the people I meet who are buying or who have just bought Macs did so because they got sick of Microsoft, sick of viruses or sick of Vista. Its not a matter of being "fanbois" (a convenient epithet to throw at someone who sees things differently than you) its a matter of deciding to try something else and discovering its pretty good. I don't have to be a moronic fanboi to recognize something that works and works well. Maybe you should crawl out of your hole and try using a Mac sometime, you might find you like it.
I have the best of both worlds, gorgeous hardware, a great and reliable OS that looks highly polished and a computer that just doesn't crash, and when I want to play games I can switch to XP if I want to play games. So far I have only had to reinstall XP once to keep it running smoothly, as opposed to doing it regularly when I was using it on a PC.
Now with this new client I can hopefully avoid messing with Windows when I want to play City of Heroes. Hopefully more MMOs follow suit. I am very glad to see NCSoft following through with this, and I sincerely hope it works well.

I dont think you actualyl get the code to apply it, and get the rwards, til the released version is 'shipping' .. so no.. you wont be able to use any of it til beta is over

1: When did I say I was Anti-Mac, or even hated Mac's?
2: I find this amusing, considering that Apple's whole marketing scheme lately is to imply that PC Users are overweight, neurotic middle-aged men.
3: When did I claim that Mac Users were "Fanboi's", Moronic, or any combination of such?

another person, like everyone at MS, that doesn't understand the commercials? The commercials aren't about users, like MSes "I'm a PC" junk. The commercials are just people representing the computer, its the computer that's talking to you, not the person using the computer. They show "PC" as a persona of the commonly thought of business type of look... they say nothing about the actual users.

Actually, MS'es "I'm a PC" ad's show that like their users, theres a wide variety of PC's of all shapes, sizes, and flavors, and can't be summed as a single image.

To be fair, you really do not have to reinstall windows. A little more care on installing/downloading and normal maintenance prevents any of the above mentioned.

Again, same applies, more attention to detail/care/maintenance alleviates issues/problems hassles.

Vs. Macs being the same substance with the same appearance, but a higher price? FYI: a Mac is a PC (personal Computer), obviously both OSes run on the same (basic) platform . . . .
I personally work on and support both PC and Mac at work and at home. All of this is subjective, though, for those who like what better and why. Macs have a unique set of their own problems (especially on a network in Active Directory, or even on a network but on different sub-nets), trust me it's a devil of a lot easier to trouble-shoot a Windows PC than it is a Mac in that type of environment.
As for home: I Custom-Built my own PC, but yet I can also run OS X on it. Let me tell you, I made the finest Windows based PC (Priority) and also a better Mac (read: OSx86) than I would have otherwise been able to do so by buying one or the other out-right. To date, I've yet to see a Mac (Genuine) match the raw power I have using OS X on my PC, even come close to comparing in price range (Money well-spent, and I can seriously say it looks just as nice if not better).
That being said, there are always two sides to every story, let's just all get along without needing to take pop shots when there isn't a need to . . . .
Sweet! Can't wait to get started! Anyone able to try it out yet?
Yaaaaayyyyy!!
It is updating on my mac as I type this - I figure by the time I'm ready to play tomorrow it should be all set....
(Hope 10.4.11 will work - seen conflicting reports on min sys requirements.)
It'll be nice not having to dual boot, even if it means I need a new usb headset (mic only seems to work PC side, not sure why).
Pound for Pound, the Amoeba is the most vicious animal on earth.
Oh man...I've waited over a year for this day to come!
The only regret I had when leaving behind the world of Windows was that I wouldn't be able to play my beloved CoH/CoV anymore.
But now....now I'm downloading the client and I can't WAIT to get back int he game!
Hmm... I keep getting incorrect login or password errors when I try to login. I've changed my password a few times and my account says it is ready to play.
Oh, hurray, at last. Downloading client now. So for those of us who are brand spankin' new to the game, but perhaps have plenty of experience in another MMO, any advice on making the transition?

It may take 24-48 hours for an account change to make it's way over to the training room. Give it a day or two and see if you can login.
I am getting the same error - what's up? I am excited to play - I never have before and now that it is on my mac I am ready...
I was downloading the mac client and had to restart my machine. I had gotten 700 mb downloaded, and after my machine restarted, the updater says connecting. it's up to #11 and doesn't seem to be connecting. Any advice to continue the download?

The Mac commercials (like most Apple product commercials) attempt to send the message that the cool kids run Macs, and the stodgy people run Windows.
Microsoft's response to this seems to be to say that far from stodgy, many Windows users are actually downright strange.
Strictly from an advertising perspective, Microsoft's "I'm a PC" ad campaign is, to put it mildly, completely inexplicable.
