Discussion: Halloween Event On Now!

Enjoying the heck out of Zombie Invasions. Crazy slow, but not nearly so bad for me as Rikti Invasions for some reason (I'm assuming it's because none of the zombies buff each other like the Rikti do).

Interesting stuff that "slipped past" the extremely short test period...

- Ghosts spawn incredibly rarely, even on full sized teams. I have a character who completed every other ToT badge, including the costume badges, before seeing a single ghost. That could probably stand to be looked at.

- Massive simultaneous invasions? Yeah. It seems it doesn't rain but it pours, as far as Zombies are concerned. No invasions for an hour or more redside, then one in six of the seven villain zones (well, ten villain zones on Virtue, what with the triple-instances of GV) all starting and ending within a two minute span. I saw the same thing happen several other times, mostly blue side, but with more zones overall it spreads out a little better there.

- Drop rate for Costume Salvage is really extremely low now. Intentional? Anticipate prices on those things skyrocketing after this event.

- Couple places in GV where clicking on one door will make enemies pop out of another door on the same building. I mostly noticed this in houses near Westin Phipps.

- Trick to Treat ratio is really skewed a lot this time around. I counted over seventy Tricks in a row on one stretch. About 15:1 most of the rest of the time.

- I've been noticing a lot of Boss Rank enemies with the same color costume and name as their Lt. Rank counterparts. Most noticable with Coven... haven't seen any Crones, but spotted several Boss Rank Sorceresses.

It's less than two minutes. I've verified the respawn is immediate.

[/ QUOTE ]It's not always immediate. I was helping some people get them last night, and we had Eochai spawn in the same place on two occasions. Both times there was at least 30s between his previous body disappearing and the new one showing up.

Noticed this big time. In a 3+hour play session I had ONE ghost spawn from ToT doors.

One.
Uno.
Ichi.

Either it was just weird session or something is borked.

I don't know how the drops compare to last year but they do seem to use the standard "streaky" random number generator that other parts of the game suffer from (like loot drops). I dual-boxed a bunch of doors earlier today and on one character I got 8 costume piece drops (3-2-3, 0 of the 4th) and on the other I got one drop and I got that near the end after my other character got 8.

My testing during the Test period confirms this.

The same thing happens for the Rikti invasion. Hopefully, the randomizer kicks in and the zones start getting out of sync with one another. Look for them to re-sync after Monday morning's maintenance.

Not according to my testing on Test and in comparison to years' past.

That's odd.

My testing on Test produced a 2:1 to 3:1 ratio. You must have been very unlucky, or else, they did fiddle with the ratio.

That's a new one. What zone were you in? Maybe the bosses are being suppressed at a certain level.

Ok, Aside from the mentioned problems with Borkoween 2008, I just got home and logged into Shadow to see about the traveling Horror Show.

It took 3 minutes after logging in to get on a team in FF. I Oro'd over from KR and as soon as I zoned in...

Zombiepocalypse!!! right on the drop point!

Minions were pretty run of the mill BP clones, as were the modified Husk Bosses. They looked good. The Lt.s is where the fun started. Some looked like Magnum PI, in their bright colored "Hawaiian Shirts" and I swear I saw Panama Jack in there too.

So far, we have a bit of lag, great animations, full immersion, and all of my favorite Ash lines going through my head. So what could make this better?

Nightmares! Wow, they look awesome.

Zombiepocalypse - "A+" (lag was not part of the grading curve.)
Borkoween 2008 - "D-"

Overall - "B-"

They need to look at the issues stated in the thread, especially the spawning of, or lack of Ghosts, and especially the Tier 1 rip off Insp.

I'm reluctant to give an "F" because I'm not totally convinced the Devs are out to get us. This may be an oversight. They can look into and tweak it. We'll see.

I logged in this morning and was pleasently surprised to see the Holloween Event going on. I only had a few minutes to play before heading off to work so I didn't get a lot of ToT in. But in the 20 or so min I did manage to get about 12-14 costume temps, a couple rocks, and about 6 costume salvage. No Tier 3 that I can recall.

Reading the above posts about the disappointment that all of the new badges can be gotten in a short amount of time, I'm kind of surprised by that. Most people complain it takes too long and they have 100+ alts (exageration). I'll only be badging a few of my toons, but I think the costume salvage is where it's at for me. I can horde those and sell them for mucho dinero later in the year, give them to new alts, offer them as prizes in Costume Contests, etc.

The lack of Tier 3 insp is a bit disappointing, but it's not a game breaker and doesn't effect my game play in the slightest. Would I "like" to have it? Sure. Not a factor in my gaming fun to not having them though.

I look forward to getting home and ToTing!!

I spent 3 hours on last night, and now about 3 hours this morning....not one single zombie invasion. What Gives?

Beats me, Jacobi. On Pinnacle, they've been occurring every few hours.

And the Chainsaw temp power, which fits over your characters right hand.

I hope the lack of tier 3s is a bug, because that is one of the main attractions for me to do the trick or treating.

I'm loving everything about this event except that the new ToT timers allow griefers on Invincible to click multiple doors quickly and then tow giant crowds of 52s and 53s through everyone else trying to ToT.

You can a) go to the Shadow Shard, iirc; b) go to one of the pvp zones; and c) exemp/oro down to a lower level.

Though, not dual boxing, I found that for one character it took nearly 2 hours to get 3 different pieces, a friend gave me the fourth. Whereas, with another character, I received all 4 within about half an hour.

One of my favorite characters is "Ghoula the Rotten", a tiny undead necro mastermind. Her bio, created months ago, seemed tailor made for this event.

[u]From Ghoula's bio[u]
[ QUOTE ]
Zombies and other undead have long been cannon fodder for mediocre heroes to beat down, feeling good about themselves in doing so and gaining a little fame in the process. But no more!

For some strange reason, a zombie, tinier than most, came out of some graveyard somewhere, and seemed to have the odd ability to command other undead. Worse, she seemed to be a bubbler like the holiest of heroes!

Like all zombies, this one has no mind whatsoever and follows little more than the most basic of cerebellovoristic behavior, though the strategies it employes are clearly sophisticated. The press have dubbed this anomaly "Ghoula the Rotten", and the name has stuck, though neither they, the heroes, nor their scientists have a clue as to the bigger undead picture.

Or even if there is one.

[/ QUOTE ]

So is there a way she can help the zombie uprising? Oh, how I'd love to take a 30-zombie assault battalion and take out the black market truck in Cap Au Diablo.

A zombie can always dream.

Awesome event. I always have a great time.

My only complaint is that the zombie corpses disappear too quickly for Warshades to summon pets. I guess that's to keep the pile of corpses to a minimum, but it cuts into my effectiveness.

Regarding the 2008 (and in general all of the Halloween events) this event lasts WAY too long and the eternal night is depressing and unnecessary. They can make the daylight hour light like the dawn and dusk light, that's still got a "Halloween" feel to it. Trick-or-Treat is "Trick" more than anything. I can't wait for this event to be over with.... they started it early... they better end it early too. I know the devs mean well, but this get dull and boring FAST. Maybe they can do what they do with the other holiday events and movie it to Pocket D.

Agreed.

To those of us who have done this event many times and earned all the Halloween salvage we need and badges... This is a pretty major disappointment.

I don't see myself getting much out of this event at all.

And I've been on Freedom for over an hour now, no Zombie Invasions thus far.
