Discussion: Cyborg and Jetpack Boosters

Argh! I totally forgot about the 1-purchase-per-day rule, and bought the jetpack first. Woe is me, I have to wait 24 hours to buy the cyborg stuff!

I'm setting a repeating reminder for myself so that I remember to buy it for both of my accounts.

I think people are missing the boat on the jetpack boosters. I will not only buy it (as soon as I figure out why the payment screen only wants Visa when all my CCs are Mastercards and I swear I've used them before*?), but I wish I could set it on auto-renew.

$4.99 a month to have two more powers on each character rather than spending two power selections on travel? For how I play, and the enjoyment I'll get out of it, totally worth it. Usually I make sure to get the two temp powers from the mayhems and milk them as long as I can (and maybe the Goldbrickers jetpack too) and then respec into travel when they wear out.

I don't think I'm "missing the boat" on how you intended to use these things.
I just respectfully suspect most people will not consider them to be worthwhile in the long run. *shrugs*

That's some beautiful, beautiful content pack...

...that once again I can't buy through normal means, (Or proxy-tampering means, for that matter.) simply because I'm in Brazil.

It has become increasingly clear to me, despite subscribing to this game without interruption and going out of my way to buy all the extras, (Even when I was forced to jump through hoops to acquire them.) that my money is unfortunately, not as good as North American or European money in NC's eyes, even after almost two years of patronage without a hitch.

I hadn't been playing the game lately, but refused to let my subscription go, out of gratitude for all the good times CoH/CoV had offered me. In fact, I was eager to purchase the Cyborg Pack, just in case I decided to hop back in.

So on that note, my subscription is canceled. I'll take my money elsewhere, and will avoid any current or future projects taken under the wings of NC or their Brazilian retailer Level Up! Games. Unless of course, their stance towards South American customers changes.

Thanks for the thread LH. Woot! Can't wait to try this out during lunch!

One thing I noticed in the Cyborg pack description though:

[ QUOTE ]
The following emotes are mandatory for any respectable Cyborg:

Robot Dance - /emote robotdance (view emote)
Power Up - /emote powerup (view emote)
Power Down - /emote powerdown (view emote)
Selectable Auras that only appear when characters are in combat mode:

Left Eye Laser (color tintable) (view)
Right Eye Laser (color tintable) (view)
Both Eyes Laser (color tintable) (view)
Holographic HUD (Heads up Display) (view)

[/ QUOTE ]
None of the "view" links are linked to anything. May want to fix that if possible

FIRST:

Awesome new Booster pack !!! GLad to spend the 10$ - the Robotdance emote and auras really ROCK!

The new costume pieces are swell too, especially for BluBot!

QUESTION:
So... i just blew myself up on two characters.

First time, was also wearing the PPD Hardsuit, and i DID leave a body, with the hospital or base window popup.

Second character- he blew up - but there was no big boom effect, and then it appeared i was invisible, with no way to hosp, or do pretty much anything to get away but LOG OUT!

Bug? ??????????????????????

There are some odd results with the power from what I've been following on the other thread. Best to /bug it in-game to help the devs out.

Edit: also, bug thread started here

So you are angry because you don't have a credit card and can't buy the pack from a regular store? Guess what, it's not available in a regular store for anyone, it's a digital product.

They're angry because it's not possible for them to buy it because of the way they have to purchase things from NCSoft. They can't purchase it directly from NCSoft's store like you or I can; since they're in Brazil they have to go through a third-party company (Level Up Games, which I've heard can really cause headaches for players). Apparently, these add-on packs just aren't available from Level Up Games, which is something NCSoft and Level Up Games should really work on.

Understandably frustrating for sure, to be hindered by NCSoft's 3rd party partner.

You can make a master account from anywhere, you can make a purchase (as far as I can tell) from anywhere, so why the use of a third party?

That's just the way it is for players in Brazil. I don't know the whys of it, but it's been discussed on the boards before. They can't purchase directly from NCSoft's store like most of the rest of us can.

EDIT: Lighthouse addressed this issue here earlier today. If it's not the exact same situation discussed above, it's a similar one.

Sophism,

NCsoft, most likely, has their hands tied on this issue. I'm almost certain that them selling through 3rd parties for places like Brazil was the only way they could sell their product due to international laws.

It's not like I could say, "Hmm.. I'd like to sell hamburgers in Brazil" and be able to pack up things, move there, and just sell them.

Some countries are not willing to take foreign companies in since they don't want their market dominated by companies making a profit, physically, off their countries soil.

I assume this case is no different. If NCsoft wanted to sell their items and take in a profit, minus the taxes of Brazil, they would physically have to set up offices there, costing them hundreds of thousands/millions. If the playerbase, internationally, doesn't make up the lost revenue, the chances of them doing anything BUT selling through a 3rd Party is slim to none.

I've never used LevelUp or heard of their service, but they could be the problem too. They might be the ones not willing to go the extra step and allow additional purchases because it might be too much effort and not worth the cost.

Have you written to LevelUp about this? If not, I'd suggest it.

Just because NCsoft supplies the product, 3rd party resellers are under no obligation to sell them. It's like when a CD is released and store like Walmart won't sell them because they object to something about the product.

Yeah, write to levelup and make your voice heard to them as well.

This is awesome. It will be nice not having to use up a power slot for travel power.

Not only -can- you rebuy this $4.99 jetpack again after your first 30 day period expires but that is apparently exactly what the NCSoft Sales and Marketing seem to be hoping that we will do with this.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fixed that for you.

As someone who works in Software Development I can tell you that the people who develop the software have zero to do with how it is marketed and sold, and that is often a point of contention. BAB, SexyJ, Posi and gang have not control over how the jetpack is sold, only in how cool it looks and how it works. For which I thank them!

Got the cyborg pack, though it looked a little disappointing.

Mainly I like the idea of these packs so I want to support them. I got the wedding pack for the same reason, and have yet to use any of the pieces, as they're kindof ugly.

However, will not be getting the jet pack. I WOULD have gotten the pack in a heartbeat if:

1. It provided no actual power.
2. Colors could be changed.
3. It wasn't time limited.

Basically, like so many others I want a jetpack costume piece. Seems this would be best implemented as a recepie, but I'd be willing to pay $4.99 for it.

A lot of companies, NCsoft included, have IP address blocks on their products for sale if they fall out of their legal selling jurisdiction. So countries like Brazil will get an error message saying that the products are not available to them.

I"ll be buying this shortly! It'll bring some changes to my original main whose costume hasn't changed for years!

My only complaint is that the HUD is an aura, not a head costume piece (like Detail 1). There's no way I'm giving up my electricity aura for a HUD.

...I forgot what experience means.

I never said that. I have a credit card. A VISA international credit card. I bought CoH/CoV, Good vs. Evil, and the entire Guild Wars line with it. I also used it to pay for my monthly subscription fee for two years. (Until today.) I can't buy the Bonus Packs with that exact credit card. Or Paypal. Or any other form transaction.

They simply don't allow Brazilian customers to access these products via the NC Store. Logging into the account, before a payment method is even selectable, it tells me this product is not available to me.

No Brazilian brick and mortar store has the Bonus Packs for sale. Level Up! Games doesn't offer it online either.

To answer this, I'll quote myself from a thread I made about this some time ago:

[ QUOTE ]
I've exchanged several tickets with NCSoft's Customer Support, and they claimed there was nothing to be done due to the agreement, and when pressed for more, finally suggested I should contact Level Up! Games instead.

I did, and their only responses were a generic "Thank you for your input!" message, followed by (When pressed further with more tickets.) telling me that they had no jurisdiction over this matter, and that I should contact NCSoft Customer Support instead.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not in the mood for being ping-pong'd between both Customer Support Services again. Also, I'd like to add that their agreement could easily have been narrowed down to physical media. As it is, both digital stores fail to offer this product and apparently have no plans of doing so.

So, Maybe I am thick headed and don't understand, but....here's my question. On 5 different servers I have 22 characters, if I purchase the Booster Cyborg pack, I can apply the costume pieces and powers too any of my toons on any server, multiple toons with Cyborg costume and powers?

Yes, you could keep re-buying the jet pack every 30 days if you choose to. It's the same if you bought the Game Card that comes with the 30 day temp jetpack.

[/ QUOTE ]

Question, I buy the jet pack on day 0, and then buy it again on day 25. When does my jetpack run out? Day 60, day 55, or day 30? The impression I'd gotten from the game cards was day 30--that is, you had to wait for the old jet pack to expire before you bought it again.

I'll definately pick up the costumes, but I won't buy the jet pack because it's temporary. (I'd gladly pay 9.99 or even 14.99 for a permanent jet pack.) Otherwise, great work as usual.
