Discussion: Cyborg and Jetpack Boosters

Ah!

My only complaint with the Booster Pack has now been resolved, good decision Devs.

Now go back and re-think capes and normal auras please...a few basic selections should be available at level 1.

I love the Cyborg Pack, but was a little disappointed in it not including a Cyborg Chest. Yes, there are a few pieces that can you can use, but I was hoping for a see-thru robotic chest (similar to the Clockwork but prettier).

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I am still waiting on a complete skeletal robotic set, with both legs and chest, similar to the skeletal robotic arms we currently have. In other words, the Terminator.

I would actually use it, too. I've got one of my characters set to as skinny as possible, with robotic parts, but it's still not "skeletal" enough.

The only concern I have about it not working is if there is some reason the arms can be see-through like that, but the rest of the body can't. (I can't see clipping being the issue, but maybe it's that gaps would be left between the limbs and the costume pieces on them. But I've got no problem with that, it's like a skeleton wearing armor, he's supposed to look like he's clattering around in there)

I also thought there should have been a few more pieces in that pack. Still, it is decent stuff and I have put it to good use

Okay, most of the posts in here have changed my tune.

Now...since the Booster auras are not the same as the regular costume auras in any way...can we have our costume aura AND Booster aura, then?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm a sad puppy today...Just found out that they use the same points and can't have both...***goes off to cry in the corner***

Great, totally lost the post.

Currently the Cyborg Auras included in Superbooster 1 are only available to characters who have completed the Aura mission at level 30 or higher. However, development is in process that will enable all characters to use these Cyborg Auras from level 1, and will be implemented as soon as possible.

[/ QUOTE ]

Assuming that this is new technology that allows Auras to be available at level 1 when they weren't before, would it be possible for certain auras to be made available from level 1? I am thinking specifically of Eye Auras. There is already a glowing eyes face option that can be used as a sort of eye aura, but it would be nice if we could use any face with glowing eyes.

This would also be consistent with the eye auras in the Cyborg pack (although I believe those are Combat Auras) and the Kheldians. And there are shoulder capes and certain wings that are available from level 1, so it would be an option you can "upgrade" to another aura at level 30, just as you can upgrade a shoulder cape to a true cape at level 20.

Alternately, if it is decided that Combat Auras as a catergory could be given at level 1 (much like shoulder capes, again) then maybe Combat Auras could be added which are the typical glowing eyes. This would actually fit one of my Eye Aura characters better than her current setup, and I'd definately switch to it. (I've actually thought about switching costumes to have her eye glow turn "on" and "off")

I like the idea of Combat Auras being separate from regular auras, so you can have both, (and an eye aura and some other aura) but honestly I don't think that'll happen. Shoulder capes and regular capes can't be selected together, and neither can wings and capes. So I doubt the devs would change the way the system currently works. (At least we can have an aura AND a cape)

And although having Eye Auras from level 1 would make the Glowing Eyes face redundant, I still wouldn't remove it, so we can have glowing eyes and another aura. It means using the specific face, and it isn't really a glow, but it's better than nothing.

I'd even go so far as to say I'd like some other auras, like fists or arm auras so they can be "upgraded" to full body, but I think the eye aura is good enough, and the precedent is there with the glowing eyes face.

I also appreciate that there are changes being made to allow the premium content to be used immediately. I would like to see them make the necessary changes to code to allow for the special edition capes to follow this precedent as well. I can understand if it's more work than it's worth, but I'm just adding my 2¢. That way for instance, if a new booster pack were to be released it might include a cape that matches the set, which could be used immediately.

It's easy to talk about how we can "just use the shoulder capes instead" or "just casually level to 20, since it's so easy", but neither of those arguments is very objective. What's cakewalk for some players is rather difficult for others. Sure, I can hit 20 the day I build a character, but I've been doing this for awhile too. As for the shoulder capes, as many of us vets may have them, there's other folks (especially with some of the recent drives to get new blood in the game) that aren't there yet, and may not be for a year or more.

I believe that if content is paid for above and beyond the normal subscription cost of the game, then it should be available immediately. I'm not going to get bent out of shape if some new player just starts the game and gets a cape at level 1 because they paid an extra 10 bucks for the "Barbarians at the Gates" booster which comes with a bear/wolf/lion skin cape, a bunch of animal fur costume pieces, and a lot of axe/mace/sword/claw customization options...

Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

I was intrigued by the Cyborg powerset, until I found out you had to pay extra for it. PLEASE whoever makes the decions on this, dont ever make another powerset available by purchase only. The emotes/dances/costume options, fine, but not the powersets, those should be available to everyone.

What powersets are you talking about? The only power available in the pack is the Self-Destrut temp/perm power. I doubt very seriously they will ever have a powerset via Booster Pack. Temps, yes. Sets, no.

Lighthouse has just posted announcement that Cyborg Auras will be changed so as to be available at level 1 instead of unlocking at 30

[/ QUOTE ]

I can see why they did it, but that seems hardly fair. I hope they intend to do this for the Special Edition capes as well, after all we had to pay extra for them too.

[/ QUOTE ]

What do you mean? Still only the people who purchased the pack can use the auras.

They just don't have to reach level 30 and complete the aura mission first.

[/ QUOTE ]

And only people that bought the DVD versions of the game can use the capes they came with, but we still have to wait til lvl 20 to earn them.

[/ QUOTE ]

The DVD didn't cost you extra. Meaning it didn't cost you game+x, it just cost you what the game cost. The special edition capes were free. If you decided to re buy the game just to get the special cape, then you chose to buy the game all over again.

You didn't pay a specific extra amount just for the cape. You decided to buy the game again to get the free cape. Thats the big difference.

I for one am glad that combat auras are available at level 1
now.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong. The DVD versions of City of Heroes/Villains cost more than the regular versions of the game (at least at the time in which I bought mine). Also the extra's in the City of Heroes DVD pack could (for a short period) be bought alone in the NCSoft store. They were at an extra cost. The only copies I bought were both DVD games when they came out, so I paid more for my copies (80 for CoV alone) than some one that didn't, so I paid for the extra's, including the capes. The dev's have mentioned they counted as paid for content, which is why they won't show up as vet rewards. So no I didn't "decided to buy the game all over again" and I'm sure I'm not the only person, but even then that would still make them paid for content. The only thing that makes these aura's different is that they activate only in combat mode, they are still aura's. People just wanted them sooner rather than waiting like they knew they had to because they paid for them. Being that the case, why shouldn't I and any others who paid for our DVD capes get ours now?

My basic point is, they HAVEN'T made them availble at lvl 1 yet, they are working on it. Once they have the basic code to make them separate, cause they aren't really different, only in how they show up to us, I'm asking they apply it to the DVD capes, because they were paid for content and that's the only reason they are making this change to the aura's in the first place. As long as they are working on one, should be time to look into both.

I am pleased to hear that CAs are going to be useable at Lvl 1.

I only wish that they were separate from the normal auras that we unlock at Lvl 30. Meh, I'll live with foregoing Lvl 30 Auras on a character or two to use the CAs I paid for. Maybe one day we will have options for CAs at Lvl 1 and be able to add the Lvl 30 Auras when we get that far.

[/ QUOTE ]

I personally think they (the De'vs) are going to find a way to make both aura's available. Meaning giving Cyborg Aura at lvl 1 as well as being able to achieve the "real" Aura at lvl 30.

I like to have faith in my favorite 1 and only MMO.

[/ QUOTE ]Not sure what you mean by that. What I meant was that the Cyborg powerset(ability to play as Cyborg) isnt available to those that didnt/wont buy the pack. At least, Im not seeing that as an option, though I certainly dont expect to see it, not having bought he booster pack. To me, itd be like if Kheldians had been introduced via a boster pack, and I just dont care for it.

Have you actually checked the store website dude? It's not an Archetype or a powerset.....it's a set of costumes, aura's, emotes, and one power that makes you blow up....that's it.

Also, it's certainly possible to play a cyborg without the cyborg pack...just without the new costume pieces. There's the skeletal robot arms, etc.

All the pack gives you are neat new options, but don't preent you from playing a cyborg wiothout them.

Hate to necro, but I just started playing a few weeks ago.

Tons of fun and tons to do.

I purchased the jet pack and have only one suggestion....could we make it a bit more "villainy" on the Villain side?

Not a big deal but when I try to make my Villain all dreadful looking and the happy go lucky red, white and blue jet pack comes out....kinda wish it looked a bit..well...dreadful....just saying.

Anyways....having a blast!

Any idea when we are getting our second booster?

[/ QUOTE ]

Depends on your definition of "booster".

We'll be getting a pack shortly after the Mac client goes live, which contains the Valkyrie costume and a Mission Teleporter. If you strictly mean things specifically called Boosters, then who knows. All we know is that the next one will have magic-themed stuff in it.

I'm so excited about the second booster pack (magic-themed) that I can't stand it! I can't wait to find out more specifics about what's in it...please hurry and release some details!

Magic based?

Will we finally get full body robes and hoods? Some part of me wants to get the rune temporary power from Croatoa.

Were are the details about the mission teleporter and the Valkyre costume

SexyJay mentioned at the last HeroCon that Robes for player characters is really hard to do on the current game engine. All the Robed (or full length-skirt) NPC's we see in the game are basically cylinders, without real legs. There was some more technical stuff mentioned, but I can't remember it all..maybe Jay will pop buy and clarify.

That being said...I'm super excited about the possibility of Magic based expansion pack.

Just so you know, because knowledge is power. Robes, skirts, and other shoot that goes beyond the knee looks like trash. I have tried to make a long skirt but it just doesn’t work out to my high standards of fine quality. If I think it looks bad that means you; the players, will loathe it even more.

What I have going on for the magic set; that is done and complete, is a compromise. I wouldn’t call it a robe per say, it’s more like a cloak of sorts. I don’t know when marketing is going to release pics and crap, but I think that you guys will like what I did.

Magic is a pretty broad theme and trying to wrap it up in a single costume set was a bit of a task. I ended up breaking what I had in mind in to male and female sets. I try to please the masses but I know somebody out there is going to say “oh man, why didn’t he include this, or that?” and to that I say tough nutz.

Any chance of including custom weapons for all these sets ever? Not just towards one set like with Valkyrie and swords. And yes I mean retroactively.
