Any chance those tokens will be awarded retroactively? And do they apply towards Ouroboros missions?

"Pain Domination" sounds glee-worthy, the mission creator is epic, and the patron respec makes me plot evilly

I find the name Pain Domination very awesome.
Control over pain to help self and allies and hopefully debuff the snot out of others. Sounds very sweet.
Shields... very awesome.
AND BADGES WOO HOO!

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree that Pain Domination is an awesome name, but I thought we Dominators were getting a new set. Sadly, I have to vote to change the name to avoid confusion (unless Dominators can get Pistol Corruption just to annot the Corrupters ).

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah... I do agree with this. There's so many other means to describe Domination without using the word "Domination."

Sore Supremacy or maybe Aching Ascendancy? eh ... minor grumble but only because I'm a Dominator.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't go with Enmity. I suppose it's not thematically perfect but it's a pretty good analog for "Villain Empathy".

Mission Editor news has... Hmm... We need another Ostrakon (bah) picture to truly demonstrate how awesome it appears, especially considering that the claim given is that it's not a pointless "MadLibs"-esque designer where you have little-to-no-say in creation but not a tool that borders on the insane like, oh say, the Unreal 3 Editor (bleagh).

It all sounds great -- I'm thinking both Shield/SS and MA/Shields as options for alts. Possibly even a Pain Domination villain.

But... conspicuously absent from this announcement is any mention of further powerset proliferation. Does that mean there simply won't be any this time? I hope that's not the case, since the talk leading up to the Issue 12 release definitely made it sound like proliferation would be an every-issue type of thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Originally, PP was not scheduled for 13. Then, it was added as a Stretch Goal ("If you have extra time...") At this point, it isn't terribly likely, but who knows? Maybe there won't be any bugs in Beta!

some cool stuff but i'm a little upset at the idea of nerfed rewards on the custom missions.

[/ QUOTE ]

You should have seen this coming though and I don't blame them one bit for doing it. There would be people out there that would make story arcs containing nothing but delivery and glowie click missions for huge amounts of XP to powerlevel themselves.

Okay, this day job thing? Isn't that basically rewarding us for NOT playing the game?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well nobody can play 24/7 so what's the big deal? You aren't getting anything for when you can't play now so there's no way on earth this can be seen as anything but a positive. *shrugs*

[/ QUOTE ]
The thing is the announcement clearly says that the Day Job system will provide real, tangible, in-game benefits. How good an idea is it, really, if in order to complete a tough mission it's recommended to first log off and get the Regen boost for Caregiving before attempting it? Or if one of the accolades for getting multiple Day Job badges is just the perfect title for your favorite character, only you can't play them while you're earning it? I just think it's not a good road to travel down. In fact, didn't Positron once say that WoW's "rested XP" system was rewarding players for not playing?

I bet the power included with the Cyborg bonus pack is the transform to Freak Boss permanent temp power. Not complaining, just it would make perfect sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll take that bet. How much ya giving me...er, I mean, wagering?

It's a brand new power.

That's unfortunate. Proliferation would have been one of my favorite things about this issue, if it happened. Shields are meh.

And what about Pistol blasters? Not gonna happen I guess.

Overall the issue sounds alright, not one of the best though.

In terms of the mission creator - will be allowed to use our own characters as "signatures" hero/villains or create new ones specifically for that story arc?

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be so bad [censored] if we can!

How would they award them retrospectively when, like Posi said, you have to pick them to the exclusion of other awards which you've already received for those task you've already done?

I bet that it's some sort of travel power.

(quick! Bet him on all possibilities until we can determine what the power is through the process of elimination!)

What's wrong with rewarding players for not playing? Everyone has to work and sleep, I'd prefer to be gaining something during that time than not. That said, it's not something that has me hyped up because it makes no difference on my gameplay and the rewards are going to be really weak.

Oh I forgot about the tokens, this is probably the best thing about this issue. But all it is, is giving the players something we have asked for since IOs came out.

I hope to hear some good anouncements at Hero'con 08 Hmm, maybe playable demo for us all? Access to closed beta?

The day job benefits are not going to be game breaking buffs or anything I would wager. It provides a way to round out the background on your character, and gives some rinky dink reward that you are going to use to do the same things you did before having it.

The story arc-hitect thing sounds so sweet. I cant wait till a few months or so after release when they get to tweaking it more and perfecting it.

All in all, I look forward to this issue alot.

I should have bet that it wouldn't start being available for sale today. That would have been much more amusing to have been proven wrong on.

Hint hint.

I don't think XP itself is going to be an offline reward. It sounds more like its a variant on explore badges, except you have to be at the spot (offline) for a significant amount of time to earn it. And my guess is that we're talking about bonuses comparable to set bonuses. If you need help with that tough mission, you're probably going to need a lot of patience unlocking many rewards over several weeks or months to get a few percent more regen. Nobody is getting Instant Healing after just logging out on the right spot overnight.

I did just have a nasty thought: the ultimate easter egg day job: log out standing on Heart of the Hamidon. An entire raid could do it, taking turns a couple at a time. I wonder if Positron is that evil.

First of all, why was there none of this grumbling over Cold Domination, an existing Corruptor/Defender set?

Second, if it's based at all around the power set I submitted to Lady Jade's thread in January and to Castle directly in April, it really is a set based around the increasing, decreasing and alleviation of pain. Granted, I called it Pain Manipulation when I submitted it, but.... Of course, if it has nothing to do with that, excuse my ramblings.

Also, "Day Job" rewards people for having multiple alts. I could play a different alt every day of the week ... and it'd be a month or mroe before I got back to the top of the list.

And my altoholism is a minor case, compared to many people!

Color me annoyed with lack of Pistols.

I like the rest but I find myself less than enthused, and my general attitude towards the whole thing dampened as I once again find that this highly sought after set is absent.

I like it. Its not quite what I expected (aside from the Mission Creator), but I like it a lot.

For some reason, I kept expecting I13 to be the first half of "omnibus content" that would conclude in I14. This however is clearly a stand-alone issue delivered with affectionate TLC for the long and faithful player. Is it safe to assume that the two-issue content items have been pushed back in the schedule?

All else aside, I'm very keen to test the mission creator. We've got some very imaginative players on board this game - I'm sure the tools included here will complement their contributions brilliantly.

Thanks for the content update. Have a great weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo!!!

Good point. And this encourages players to stay invested in the game; they'll play their alts more while waiting, and they'll come back to check in on unplayed alts to see their progress.
