Discussion: PayPal Payment Option
I foresee much rejoicing.

Will PlayNC be assessing the usefulness of this new avenue, ie checking for fraud, cost/benefits etc, and consider paypal for subs payments in the future ?
<edit>
Could you create 30 day 'time card codes' as one off purchases?

The 30-day time card codes would be a good solution, I know auto-processing scheduled payments through paypal can be a little problematic (possible, IIRC, but problematic)
I like the idea, but I too would like some way to purchase game time via PayPal. Codes for extras are great, but the people that don't have a "credit card" won't have a need to purchase addon's since they can't pay to actually play the game via Paypal.
pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^
Arachnos Commander:
Agreed with all of the above. This is good...and the addition of a 30 or 60 day time card to the purchaseable items would be very nice.

Another vote for time card codes available online -- and if this could somehow be hooked up to character transfers/renames, that'd also be fantastic. I've managed to make arrangements with a friend who does have a credit card for that stuff, particularly as time cards have been harder to find in my area, but I'd like to just make the payments directly without using a credit card myself. (I don't use the buggers any longer.)
This is good news, but I already pretty much have everything I care about that I can now buy through PayPal.

Definitely please make game time cards available this way. That'd be the only way to make the process better.

I'm in firm agreement with everyone who's suggested the possibility of 30- and 60-day virtual "game cards". May not be possible, but it's definitely something that PlayNC should look into.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
I'd support that as well.
Also, for those who may not know... if you have a bank debit card linked to your payPal account, you can create single or multiple use 'virtual credit cards' that are keyed to a specific website or domain. This is how I'm paying for a lot of my stuff these days... because any untoward activity on any of them links right back to the site itself.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
Hm -- the service in question seems to be the PayPal Plug-In...has anyone had any success using it for PlayNC purchases? I'm assuming it's no good for recurring payments, though, as it seems to generate one time use numbers.

Yay.
(Seriously. This is a great thing.)
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
I don't have a checking account, a debit card or a credit card. I don't want one. I have a savings account and that's it. Don't need anything else. I also have no experience with PayPal. How do you pay....for PayPal? Credit card? Debit card linked to your PayPal account? Well, if you have a debit card, why do you even need PayPal? You can just have the monthly payment deducted from your debit card/checking account each month. I don't see how this is worth rejoicing - it seems more redundant to me.
So VERY VERY LATE
Totally freaking approve. I just saw it right now when I was going to buy the Wedding and GvE packs. Yay!

You can link any bank account (including Savings, that's how I operated until just a couple weeks ago) to Paypal. This new addition is highly useful for, say, minors who want to buy the ingame packs but can't get their parents to buy the stuff on their behalf (yet still fund the subscription. Weird, but I've seen it happen!).
It's also useful as an obscuring measure for your credit card, for those who are a bit averse to chucking that number around.

Sorry but you are failing to realize that some in other countries do not have the same ability (to have payments deducted from savings account).
It is worth rejoicing for the fact that NCsoft can now accept another form of payment opening the potential for more customers.

Yes. I do not accept that there are other countries. I think it's a huge conspiracy. Idiot
Read it again and hover over the part where I said I had no experience with PayPal. It was a question about the process, not a statement about the process.

Good to see another way of handing over money to you guys
Better if you allow for time cards, espically virtual ones (ie just code).
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
Have to add my vote to adding playtime codes. It's getting more and more difficult to find playtime cards where I live. Only one store carries them anymore and they only ever have one in stock at any given time, plus it seems to be random as to whether or not they order in the 30 day or 60 day.
Driving 2 hours one way to the 'big city' is not an option with gas prices. Ugh.
As someone who's been asking for more ways to be able to pay for things, I'm quite thrilled. I'm already looking at this as a way to gift people money to get COH goodies (although they'll have to have Paypal account first). I am a little disappointed in that I wish game time and NCCoins were covered by this option (and, in turn, NCCoins could buy COH items), but its one more option I didn't have before.
I'm excited and NC_Hawksteel at the Exteel boards said that NCSoft has some exciting stuff coming up in the future in regard to payment options (of which I'm sure this is just one), so I'm very much looking forward to the day I can easily and conveniently give any of my SG-mates a costume pack they've been wanting or money for a transfer/rename without having to jump through a ton of hoops.
Yay! Thank you!
First off, the comment about being USA-Centric was on the borderline of good posting manners and I am sorry.

First you have a "because it doesn't affect me, why should I care" post, followed up by directly insulting another poster. Good show.
I would suggest in the future that when you "ask a question" that you should examine how you ask it. It came across as hostile at best, insulting at worst.

Not that I'm excusing the tone of the second post, but hostility tends to beget hostility, and I'm not entirely sure how this:

...warranted your initial hostility and accusations of USA-centrism. Honestly, it was a bit blunt, perhaps, but came off as honest confusion to me. I realize that the subtler nuances of conversation don't always carry over in text, but honestly, I found your initial post to be in far poorer taste than the other party's.
And even if it was meant as a flame, it's really only in Paragon City that it helps at all to fight fire with fire. Your point could have been made much more politely, and without lowering yourself to what you at least perceived to be his level.
In any event, to consolidate the information: PayPal can tap directly into a bank account, including a savings account, for those of us who don't want/can't have credit or debit cards for whatever reason (this is exactly what I do). It can also handle foreign currencies, making things a bit easier on those players who are abroad. It does in fact expand payment options significantly, and if coupled with an expansion of the products available through the PlayNC store, it could be quite beneficial for a lot of us. So, yeah, it's a pretty good thing. Yes, PayPal's a mixed bag, but if you don't like it, there's no one forcing you to use it, and it's helpful to those of us who rely on it exclusively for online shopping, as I personally do.

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement.
From the PlayNC website:
[ QUOTE ]
We now accept PayPal as a payment option for all digital code purchases made through the PlayNC store (not for subscriptions or NCcoin). At this time, PayPal is only available for US Dollar purchases, though on Wednesday support for Euros and British pounds will be added. The PayPal payment option will show up beneath the Credit Card payment option and will require you to log into your PayPal account to complete the transaction. If you have any questions about this new payment option, please visit the Support Center for help.
