I was pointing out that this isn't the case outside the US. I can't do this with either of the banks I deal with (both global companies -HSBC & Royal Bank). In other words, they were taking something they could do as granted that someone in another country couldn't.

Yay PayPal.

I'm confused why you guys are asking for time cards? Why not ask for PayPal to be accepted for paying for account time just like a credit card? That way you can occasionally buy 3 or 6 months at a time and save a couple bucks. Time cards will ALWAYS be the most expensive way to pay for a month of access.

Hmmm... when I click COH/COV in the PlayNC store, nothing appears below its heading (it turns orange but nothing happens). This in both in IE7 and Firefox3, both with the English display and the Spanish default.

Solution: Activate the account as a monthly charge. After it activates and charges the card, deactivate the account. You will be able to post on the forums and play until your month expires.

You have to do something similar with time cards or switching plans (monthly/6 months/year) or from a card to time card and back.

It's still intangible...which is the problem that NCSoft will face with PayPal's seller protection program in regards to chargebacks or buyer complaints. Even the game download is considered an "intangible" item - it cannot be traced by, say, a US Postal Service tracking number proving that it's been shipped. Just ask all those WoW people who sold gold online and got their money yanked back because their buyer turned out to be a jackhole and said "I never received it."

And no, before anyone asks, I wasn't one of those people. I just happened to work for PayPal several years ago in their Buyer Complaint department, and saw this kind of thing happen routinely. In terms of the digital world, PayPal definitely favors the buyer, not the seller.

Solution: if someone pulls chargeback tricks with their subscription, they're expelled from the game. Honestly, if the whole 'intangible product' thing is the only reason why NCSoft isn't allowing this for game time yet, that's pretty weak sauce. They ARE allowing it for item packs and game downloads, which are by your own argument just as intangible.

But I'll reserve judgment on what NCSoft is thinking until I hear word from them. I'm hoping this is a pilot program and will lead to expanded payment options across the board very soon. It is, after all, in their interest to make everything they sell as accessible to their customers as possible.

PayPal is an accepted method of payment on other subscription games (i.e. Second Life, Disney's Toontown). I don't see any reason it couldn't/wouldn't be allowed for CoX if NC chose to make it acceptable.

Exactly. So I find it a bit silly that that's being used to support the argument that we couldn't buy game time using PayPal. Perhaps PP is biased toward the buyer, but I'm sure there are credit card companies out there that are similarly biased. You mess around with this sort of thing, you get banned, period. It shouldn't matter what payment method you use.

I think another reason why timecards *may* not be added is potential for griefing/stalking. Having all the recent updates that help stop people hiding as anoymously, why allow an easy way to get an account that isn't directly linked to your main, or your real life identy via creditcard.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

...and yet people can already buy both the game itself and time cards with CASH, if they can find them, and that's even less traceable than PayPal, as the space lizards that control our New World Order government through the Illuminati haven't quite gotten around to installing the miniaturized tracking and recording devices into the eye on the pyramid on all our dollar bills yet. That's really not a very good argument either.

Additionally, PayPal doesn't allow you to apply the same bank account number, debit card or credit card to more than one account. You can't just create new PayPal accounts out of thin air every time you get banned and use them to hop back in and cause problems. It'd be more work than most griefers will actually do, and cost more money than most spammers are willing to spend.

While on the surface, this comes across as good news, I was rather disappointed to discover that it doesn't cover the one feature I was really hoping to be able to use it for: buying a Server Transfer. Presumably, this also means that it wont work for Rename Tokens either.
I really, really hope that these features, as well as the ability to buy game time in one fasion or another, are added to the things I can use my Paypal account for, as I don't currently have a credit card.

I have a question. Is it possible to use any payment feature (PayPal/Credit) to purchase items for other account holders?

For example, what if I wanted to buy the GvE Item Pack for the members of my SG/VG?

Could it be made to give me a token(s), that I then can pass on to my SG/VG mates? Or a choice to have the pack delivered to their PlayNC account?
