Maybe it's the 4 year cynic in my heart. But the FIRST thing that popped into my head when I read "Customizable missions and content" was "No way they are gonna allow it to give xp or influence/drops of any kind".

I hope to God I'm wrong but I just don't think so. This kind of content that would ALLOW you to create farm missions just for that purpose with unlimited enemies that you can farm for rewards just sound WAY WAY too imbalancing.

So I have a feeling while this 'customizable content' will be cool at first. If it's valueless to kill the mobs then I can see this feature dying FAST with the people.

[/ QUOTE ]

no you can't create limitless amounts of enemies. You simply choose the map and choose the enemy. The spawn points and how they load will probably be canned. Plus I don't think that you'll make a map that will earn more XP/minute than some current favs like Battle Maiden, Family, or Council Soldiers one.

I hope that they doun't make it XP/influenceless. I could see that as a draw back that would limit desire to play the content. There are planty of things they could do to allow for XP/Influence with out impacting the game.

I want to set up something horrible, stop the war between the Rularuu and the Knives of Artemis; because I think that mission would be pure hell for just about every archtype.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would love to get in on that mission!!!

Agreed, I think half the funs going to be trying to come up with the biggest PITA mission for your team .

I'm thinking of a joint Malta/Carnie one for starters .

Sappers, Sorcerors and Succubi, oh my!

Dangit! I told you after the I12 announcement I my heart couldn't take much more, now we're getting branching stories and user generated content! (And hopefully the former will work with the latter!)
I'm so veclempt I could plotz! Greatest quarter ever!

Suck it, Champions Online!

Player generated missions? This sounds awesome, but I am fearful of a repeat of the CityVault situation where tech problems cause an ongoing, indeterminate delay.

Still, more details would be awesome. Such as if we can customize spawns, have multiple villain groups, helper NPCs, etc.

Echoing what others have said, the player created feature would be a great idea for a boxed expansion. It's a good limiter for the amount of content that will flood the game. Plus it would be a hot seller, as 99.9% of the forum goers are stoked to try it. Me too!

This game has never been properly marketed and this is a great opportunity to get it out into the public eye. Not to say that it could have millions of worldwide subscribers, but there is definitely room to grow the player base. Especially after an

Even with those four options I'd be excited. There's enough maps, villain groups and backstory to craft some spectacular stories. Add mission entrance text, even limited NPC dialogue and I'll look for the button to pay for more-than-a-year-at-a-time option on the NCSoft site.

What a great feature to have introduced. Any expected timings for launch?

Based off previous experience, Signature Characters probably won't be availalble to include in missions. Other things that violate canon too much will probably be tweaked or those missions removed.

But it's a fantastic step forward for CoH/V. Provided the missions are easily accessible and low quality / questionable ones get canned relatively quickly (I'm guess peer ratings with official reviews at periods), then things should flow smoothly.

I would very much like to be able to place the enemies in any maps I use, or at least have the option. Also, any chance of making the original Pocket D map available for use in this feature?

Heroes: Scrappers

[/ QUOTE ]

How is this not Controllers?

[/ QUOTE ]

At a wild guess, if you looked at the distribution of wealth, you'd find a pocket of extremely wealthy controllers *cough* *cough* fire/kins *cough *cough*, with the majority being "non-farming" characters, and hence not as wealthy as scrappers.

Conversely, just about any scrapper can be an effective influence generating machine, so the average for scraps is higher, but with a lower standard deviation. Meanwhile the controllers chime in with a lower average but a higher standard deviation.

Disclaimer: I am not a statistician, nor do I play one on television. I can't lie convincingly enough to be one.

... one of the things I can talk about is a feature that we are planning. Similar in concept to our character creator, it allows you, the players, to create missions and story arcs for your characters and others to participate in. You’ll be able to pick the map, villain group, and objectives, as well as write the dialog and any clues needed for the missions. When you are satisfied with it, you can upload it and have other players across all servers play it and rate it.

Thank-you!

Are you absolutely certain about that?

To quote Sean Connery from the movie Outland ... "Think it over."

-- Edit --

Re-read this, and realized the OP was referring to just this year. In which case carry on, my quote assumed (incorrectly) the implied existence of the word "ever" between "I've" and "gotten".

Hmm ... I wonder if the villian groups will have to match the level. Should I be able to create a map of Skulls set at lvl 52?

... snip ...

[/ QUOTE ]

I suspect you can't do that. Many moons ago, one of the devs explained that their mobs were table driven, and could only exist at levels provided for by the table. That's why (for example) regular clockwork stop at about level 20, because the table simply doesn't go higher. There's a whole other table for psychic clocks of course.

In the same vein, there's probably no table data for skulls much above level 20 or so, therefore you can't make a mission and populate it with L52 skulls.

Just increasing the HP and damage is not enough, I also remember a redname stating that higher level mobs have more attacks. That's presumably the reason for the table, to hold all those sorts of parameters.

I wonder if they'll give our build interface the sophistcation necessary to do things like changing the mission objective when a certain objective (not necessarily one that is obvious to players) is completed, or allowing us to add NPC Combatants as pets/allies. Also, will we be able to incorporate named Bosses, Elite Bosses, or AVs/Heroes, or maybe even Giant Monsters?

Imagine building a "King of Monster Island" mission, where your party is transported to an instance of Striga Island. Once there, they have to find a "glowie" that gives the person who clicks it a temp power, "Control Monster", which would cause that monster to be instantly defeated and respawned as a friendly "Pet" version of the same GM, which would then follow the party around the island, as they lead him/her/it to hunt down and destroy all the other Giant Monsters on the island. Of course, all the great *City of* Giant Monsters would have been transported to various sites around the island themselves (Much to the chagrin of various Council, Family, & Warrior NPCs also placed as more mundane challenges. The goal is of course for "your" monster to destroy all the others. if "your" monster is defeated, the mission fails.

Now if only there was a way to implement player made badges to go along with this. Then when you help Jack In Irons to defeat the others, you get the Master of Jack In Irons badge. Furthermore, when you have gotten all the "Master of" badges for each monster in the mission, you get the Master of Monster Island Accolade.

Of course, even if we aren't given this level of freedom, I might suggest that the devs themselves are welcome to build my Monster Island mission

I doubt the devs will initially allow any player-created mission to offer any significant rewards, because that's far too exploitable in the general case, and allowing players to make badges could explosively increase the number of badges that exist: I think it makes more sense if the devs add a parallel "accomplishment" tracker that would allow players to track which player-created missions they completed, more like a mission diary than a badge. Players could register their missions just like we now register supergroups, and other players that complete them could record that fact in the mission diary.

The conceit that allows players to make up any mission they want and yet coexist with the current game would be to place them in alternate dimensions: all player-created mission arcs could start with a zone into an alternate dimension through Portal Corp, Naylor's portal, or some other form of dimensional travel. They could then be identified by dimensional coordinates, plus an arc title. So instead of registering a supergroup, players would "register" a new dimension, and then create the story arc within it.

Actually, doing that allows an additional feature: players can award any sort of temporary powers or abilities they want within a story arc, and the game could automatically remove them at the end of the arc when they "return" to the current dimension. This gives players more flexibility in mission content without the danger of "polluting" the mainline game.
