It's down on Pier 55.

1101 Alaskan Way to be exact.

That's 8 blocks West and 5 blocks South from the convention center. It's too far away in my opinion. There are closer options.

Ohhhh yeah. On the waterfront. Thanks

Just would like to point out that many of the people that don't have a problem with the in-game freebie that NC is giving away to people that attend PAX are also people that are going or think they may go to PAX.

I just wanted to point that out.

Edited to say many instead of most.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't care about this item and I am not attending PAX. Happy?

Maybe the DEVS can make the many unhappy people happy by offering a new costume pack which would include the PPD Hard Armour suit and some Freaks gear. Throw in some new armours and items and you have enough for a new pack. Just make sure these are actual costume sets and not toggle costumes

There. Problem solved. That is all.

I already stated this about 15 pages back. Thanks for coming out.

Uh, where is there a Red Robin in the downtown area? South Lake Union?

[/ QUOTE ]

Unless something happened to it at some point in the past, there should be one at around 4th and Union.

lemmee do a quick phone book search...

Apparently it's on the waterfront now, on Alaskan Way. Go figure. That's not particularly close to the convention center, though it's not prohibitively far either. Probably too far for most to want to walk, though.

If there's still some question about venue, then maybe it's appropriate to ask "What activities happen at an informal Meet and Greet?"

If it's something beyond chatting (like, you know, getting Ex Libris and Lighthouse drunk and goading them into a table-top dance-off) then some venues might be more appropriate than others.

I've never been to a game related convention, but I live near seattle. Is the PAX worthwhile?

I haven't been to PAX, but if I were able I might go. I actually don't even much care for the comic itself, but the con is growing by leaps and bounds, attracting a LOT of attention mainly from video game companies, but also other things.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes.

As someone who practically grew up at the San Diego Comic Con, PAX is quite a bit smaller... but then everything is quite a bit smaller. PAX is big enough to have some really cool stuff and still small enough to be somewhat down to earth. Plus they have beanbag chairs, a lot of them, so there's always a place to chill if you need to escape the exhibit hall crazyness.

Last year we picked up a ton of game trials, got a bunch of beta invites for various MMOs, got a crapload of other swag, sat in on some interesting panels, and spent a long time chatting with Positron and Lighthouse. It was a ton of fun.

Ideally, decent food, decent drink, and a place that's conducive to medium-to-large groups of folks who want to chat with each other. So uh no loud music, and no little sequestered corners where we can't talk to more than 2-3 other people at a time.

The Rock Bottom in Bellevue was great a couple years ago, because they let us move tables into kind of a big horseshoe shape, which made for easy chatting with a bunch of other folks.

Any word yet on which fancy NCNC people will be going to PAX this year?

...I can't bring myself to call that an appropriate out of game rewards/give-a-way....

Honestly the Red Robin isn't too far, it's only 1 mile from the Convention Center. There's a Cheesecake Factory nearby but they say they can only handle up to 25 people for a group and from the sounds that's about half of what we'll likely see. Part of the trick with places near the Convention Center is their price and how they handle large groups (over 10 or so). Not to mention this is gonna be on a Friday night.

i know a place that could do 35 (very tightly) but thats all i was able to see.

The Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. has a space that will seat 60+ that is available for a group reservation. The restaurant is 1 block from the convention center (it's Pine near 6th). They would require us to have a group menu due to the number of people we might have.

Not only is it a Friday night meaning busy restaurants; the 5th Avenue Theater also has a performance of The Shreck Musical that night. That's why The Rock Bottom is hesitant on large party reservations outside of their booked rooms. They are directly across the street from the theater, and they get a lot of business with the theater crowd.

As for the Red Robin, the farther the distance from the convention center the higher the chance we will have fewer folks participate. If we go to a place that is closer it is easier for everyone.

It isn't even a matter of people being able to buy the stuff. Or speak with the wallets. some of us have duties that keep us other places.
I think a great way to handle this has been mentioned above, in the idea of a Costume Expansion Pack. All the costumes that have been available through giveaways etc, in one pay-for-pack. I think it would work out quite well for everyone especially if it is a for good offer, so those who are on fixed incomes can save up to pick up the pack.

Honestly, I know that a major draw of this game is the costume creator, and the PPD Hardsuit has been a major request in Jay's Costume Thread since around pg 40 (thread is at 400s now). I know if Jay did half the things requested in that thread to include in the pack I would pay as much as 30$ for it.

Thanks,
Elvnsword

Gordon Biersch isn't a bad idea but it could be a bit pricey for some people. also, they don't have guinness so Ex and I would have to go somewhere else for our carbomb race
