48 Month Veteran Reward Unveiled!
I just wish the faeries where prettier. I hate the animal face and the leaves for hair.

I mean damn, 10 hp -75% resistance, its a clear slap in the face. With all the AoE heavy enemies end game, whats the use of this pet. Can the pet itself be buffed?? I've also heard rumors it can only be used 3 times.
[/ QUOTE ]
Vet Awards, once again, have always followed the "nice-to-have" not "must have" paradigm.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've yet to provide how its acceptable to have it "nice to have" for some AT's, and pretty useless for others.
Even if it was unkillable, I fail to see how its breaking the game. Either the buff is overpowered, or its not. It shouldnt be any more overpowered for a tank's pet to exist perma than a back row blaster's. Its more a QoL issue than anything else, not recasting the thing after every battle.
I'm gonna rock that Dark Fairy so hard in ... uh ... in 42 months.
Excited anyway!
[ QUOTE ]
So what happens if a team of 8 people get together, all running their buffing pets?
[/ QUOTE ]
They couldn't possibly have imagined that happening.
Certainly, some organized groups will all choose whichever pet cumulatively gives them the biggest overall advantage, but I wager that was expected.
If one of them provides a tiny Def buff though, I already know which one my FF Defender will pick. Sweeet. Um ... six months later, that is. Stupid Issue 5/6 hiatus. I shake my tiny fist of rage at Jack for making me so disgusted that I left for a few months! Or something like that.
Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Not my job to explain the rationale the Devs had for this.
Maybe you should ask them.
But if I had to speculate this pet will help everyone in different ways. Obviously the buffs are more useful to ranged squishies than melee tank-types. But then again that means it actually helps the people who need those buffs more than people who don't really need defensive help so on that level I still don't have a major problem with this. I expect my ranged Blaster will get a lot of use out of her pet, but I also expect my human-form PB will almost always be petless due to melee damage. I'll adapt and move on.
If you don't like it (which you clearly don't) tell the Devs about your displeasure.
All I can do is offer my opinion about it here.

Great another great thing my money has gone to develop that only less than 1% of the population get to use.
Thanks for nothing.

Your paying to play the game dude. You money pays for the server upkeep, and payroll of the people making the game.
That's ALL.
What THEY do with there time and resorces is THEIR bussiness, NOT YOURS. You pay to play. That really is all your entilted TOO. If you are unhappy with this arrangement... your only REAL choice is to take you money elseware.
Same goes for me. Same goes for everyone. Vet rewards are like a "thank you" to long term customers. It's a nice gesture IMO. And belive me, it works both ways.
I had to PAY for DvD perks after the fact, while new players just bought the DvD. I had to pay of the GvE stuff, when again, new people got it when the bought the game. I had to buy CoV, when now, you get it for free or vice versa. You buy one, you get the other free. New players now can start playing both sides of the game for practically nothing... and they complain cause i get a few more fluffy iteams then they do?
[/ QUOTE ]
48 month veterans have plunked down appoximately
48 x $15 = $720 plus the boxes/codes $30-80?
What have you invested into this game?
Side note: Does that mean those Cabal witches have been 48 month Vets at least since i5 hit (Aug 2005)????
I think if eight 48 month vets were teamed together, they'd roll over anything in their way with or without the help of these pets. Experience in the game is a much more valuable asset than a fragile pet. This shouldn't even be an issue.
We should be allowed to name the 48 month vet pet like Masterminds can do with their pets.
I like the new vet-pets. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that you'll see some non-vet pets showing up as recipes sometime in the next couple of issues, depending on how these are received by the general populace.
I'd be happiest if they dove-tailed a little better with the full set of non-combat pets. At a stretch, the fairies can sort of complement the demons, but there's really nothing to complement the Rikti monkey. The drone kinda-sorta, if you really stretch your imagination, but truthfully, IMO, the demon and monkey just don't fit with any of the buff pets.
So, who wants to speculate that the 60-month vet reward will be a melee combat pet; a themed lieutenant? I'll need a Cannon Knight to go with my Oscillator and mini-cog. *heh*
If the non-combat pets from WoW are any indication then craftable non-combat pets would probably be insanely popular.
@Demobot
Also on Steam
Exetremely cool. BUT now all use 3-12 veters will miss out on another awesome vet award.

Actually, players who have been with the game for 48 months, have placed more money in the system then you have. By your own logic, they SHOULD get rewarded. The longer your put money in the cooler stuff you get. I don't get why people who played the game a short time think they should have access to the same rewards people whove been paying a fee for YEARS should get. Plus anyone who gets this reward has been a loyal COX customer since launch. That may be a small percentage, but its a very important and very loyal percentage. Considering the average MMORPG subscribers sticks around for only a year, four years is phenomenal. And yup I plan on playing for as long as the game is around.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um...No. The fact is that w/o the current subscriber base this game wouldn't even be here. Why shouldn't I recieve whatever everyone else gets. You don't really think subscribtions fees from those who played since day 1 and never took a break is enough to keep this game profitable.
So enjoy your 48th month rewad..but just remember it's all of the current subscribers who helped you get it.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have an April 4th, 2004 reg date, youre getting the reward and pretty soon it looks like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, using an extreme example, he registered on April 4, 2004, paid for one or two months, took three years off (without paying), came back and resumed playing.
Reg. date doesn't signify veteran time.

According the Paragonwiki, the Shield Drones will give an extra 1.75end/sec, is that accurate?!
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought it was +1.75% End recovery. Hmm...
[/ QUOTE ]
DISCLAIMER: Math is not my strong point. However...assuming 100 Endurance, would 1.75% +Recovery not equal 1.75 End/sec?
I have to admit, I giggled a bit when I saw this announcement over on mmorpg.com. Last time I saw something about this, someone posted a thread announcing it, claiming to have seen the (what we now know to be) Blue Fairy. He even posted links to screenies. The thread was 3-4 pages long, with 99.999999998% of the posts dedicated to shooting down the OP, insisting he'd fabricated the whole damn thing somehow. Can't remember who the guy was, but I imagine he's feeling pretty damn justified right about now.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Zombie_Man made this point by implying we might start seeing chat messages like this: "LFT, 48 Vets only!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Doubtful, extremely doubtful.
First, there aren't going to be enough 48 month vets to make this a workable recruitment strategy; I couldn't guess how many hours it might take to get eight 48 month vets together on the lower pop servers, and even the higher pop servers won't see this for a long time to come. That's PUGs, of course.
Now if these pets revive moribund old-timer SGs for a while, then I'm all for that.
Second, these little team buffs are not going to be significant unless the team actually does have a lot of 48 month vets, and pretty much all of the pets would have to have the same buff type.
Third, melee vets will probably lose their pets right away. What seems more likely is a call for seven 48-month-vet ranged squishies all with defense fairies and one newbie tank, so the pets don't get wiped out at the start of each battle.
[ QUOTE ]
I honestly believe these Vet Powers are too powerful as a team buffs regardless of who gets them. If that is in fact the Devs' intention you can bet I'm going to exploit them to their fullest potential before they get nerfed. This thing has nerf-bait written all over it.
[/ QUOTE ]
No nerfing is likely as long as the 48 month vet population is very low. And if the 48 month vet population gets very large over time then the pets have done their job as an incentive and they would never, ever nerf a success like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even though I won't be getting this Veteran Reward for over a year (with which I'm okay!), I won't join any "48+ month vets only!" teams exclusively... or just because I'm a 48 month vet.
But then again, a major part of why I team is for the social aspect. Sure, the XP is great...but I don't care to team with people who are "defeat all!! no talk! Defeat! Defeat! Defeat!"
No, thank you.

gosh... i wonder what veteran rewards means... it's like they are giving away insignificant freebies to people who stick with the game for a long duration?
damn, that's a hard concept to master.

No. That assumes that you recover 100.0 endurance per second, which is pretty absurd. No, that 1.75% goes to your relatively low base endurance recovery. Anyone have the active numbers? I'm too lazy to open Mid's.
So according to my account I have 4 years 6 months... but I logged in after patching and no reward... anyone else having that issue? Or is it coming later?

You have THREE years six months, just like I do. The game wasn't released that long ago. Only 3 months before our join dates. If yours says 4 years 6 months you'd best call up support for you NC account, because it's a full year off.

According to paragonwiki, .08 end/second of increased recovery. Gamebreaking I say! Basically negates the cost of the cheapest toggle in the game: Combat jumping.

When I first saw the post for this award I was to say to least extremely pleased. I thought finally the Dev's decided to give something really cool as a thanks to the long devoted players. After reading this thread I have to say, I'm not looking forward to it anymore.

In the early game there are actually very few AoE types. Some bosses, but that's about it. The lil bugger will probably be fine. Getting a few of these on a team could be a real boon to the low lvlers getting started.
High lvl, not so useful. Much like a necktie or stiletto heels shoes, they look nice, and occasionally get you a little action, but don't have much real use.
Despite a few faults, I think this is one of the cooler veteran awards.
