48 Month Veteran Reward Unveiled!
Cool.
How about more costume slots as long as we're at it?

... wait. These things give a buff to you AND YOUR TEAM?
So what happens if a team of 8 people get together, all running their buffing pets?
[/ QUOTE ]
LFT, 48 Vets only!

Cry doom much?
There really isn't going to be enough 48 month "vets" in this game to have that happen on a "realistic" and "common" level. I mean honestly...think about it. Something like that just won't happen any time soon, if ever.
Quit worrying. Teams of "8" 48 month veterans will be few and far between as well, I'm sure. It's not like everyone you see running around in this game is a vet. Hell, not even close. I'd say on average most seem to be around the 12-24 month marks at best and may never see even 36 months.
This is an awesome reward though for those of us who will attain it within the next few months.
[ QUOTE ]
With 10 hp they sound about as useful as the current pets that do nothing.
[/ QUOTE ]
They certainly will do nothing for tanks and most melee, since they'll follow and get creamed by splash damage.

As I agreed a few posts ago there probably won't be many 48+ month Vets for a while at least.
But as I also said I'll be testing out the "8 Vet pet" team scenario within a few months from now regardless.
So while it might not be common it'll certainly happen fairly soon.
Will it end up being nerf-worthy? Time will tell of course...

Can I exchange my 42 Month Veteran's Boxer shorts for, say, an orange or green wisp???

Doesn't make up for the 45 month reward.

No doubt. This is a cool pet and all, and the buff is nice and all... but i doubt i'll ever use it... I can't think of ONE of my 25 active alts that'd have a wisp/fairy/clockwork/orb following he everywhere he goes... well maybe ONE... i do have a tech FF/Archer the orb could work with... but still...
Not that i'm bashing it, but to me... it's MEH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well... as far as *justification* goes... I think I remember in the UK thread that the description of the fairy was something along the lines of.. she was found/rescued... I figure that pretty much any AT/Origin can come up with some sort of reason for having one of these lil widgets...
The fairy was saved/captured (hero/villain) during a CoT mission... Wisps could be pretty much explained the same way. For the CW or drones, they could be either created by the character (Science/Tech/Natural) or given/stolen from a friend/foe...
The buffs aren't overpowering but nice... the pets are blown-glass weak.. so.. all around decent, IMO... and creating an in-game justification isn't all that difficult.. and this coming from a very NON-RP player.. heh
As for the concerns about "Vet Only" requirements for team make-up... I wouldn't be too concerned. I play on Champion, Victory, Pinnacle and Protector.. I am more often than not the "eldest" player on most teams I am on, and I have about 6 months left before I get them.
If people start *demanding* that their teams are made up of these OLD vets.. I think they're gonna be kinda lonely.
Peace
[/ QUOTE ]
I usually like to come up with my OWN justifications regardless of what is written about them. For example: Magical Blue wisp? meh Mine is a blip of energy from the same energy dimension my Hero gets his powers. What you call wisp I cal a Blip of nearly-sentient energy from another dimension.

You do realize how potentially overpowered these buffs would be if they -are- team buffs right?
Certainly possible of course, but to think that all Dev documentation is error free is naive at best.

You got to wait 48 months for these AND these have 5-10 hp
Not that over powered and I can't wait to get mine!!
Exactly. I am excited to get mine when my times comes (I think I am due in April). So what if they get creamed the first AE that hits, whoopdie doo. Its a nice little extra that will help me say on MY initial Alpha strike (BU+AIM+Nova) or my initial big hit (BU+AIM+Snipe). If it gets whacked, groovy. I hear the recast is pretty reasonable.
And yes, as for concept, I can now see my AR/DEV with TD and Red Damage Buff Drone. I can see my head circled by drones!

Yep you're right these pets only have 10 HPs AND have a -75% Resistance penalty.
But do you realize how easy it is for a level 50 ranged/sniping Blaster to play for literally hours without taking ANY damage? If I can play the game keeping a squishy completely damage free it'll be relatively easy to keep a pet like this providing TEAM BUFFS alive constantly.
Certainly these pets won't be overpowered in every situation or team.
But for people who know how to work it we'll certainly exploit it to its limits.

And what benefit do they provide a tank or scrapper? It seems kind of unfair that certain AT's get to make use of the pet while others dont.

People in this thread have already offered creative ideas for using these pets to absorb alpha strikes. Sure that means melee types might not get the buff advantages from these pets often, but they will gain benefits of their own.
Besides the ATs which already have superior defenses don't really need -more- buffs for that anyway.

The people who have been here for 48 months have paid MORE over that time than people who have been here for 1, 17, 24, etc. months. So WE'RE paying for the vet rewards. Lord, the feeling of entitlement among some on these boards is just frightening.

In addition, since tanks (and sometimes scrappers) are taking the alpha from spawns, the pet being active will result in (theoretically) fewer hits from the +def pet (5% cited on Paragonwiki... not insubstantial) or less damage from the +res pet. If you're defense based, take the blue pet, resistance based, take the red pet, and you've got a bit of alpha strike help.
Not saying the benefit is equal to what longer range types might get from them, but there is a benefit.

My fire tank would beg to differ. Some additional defense would be quite welcome.
I also fail to see how a pet with such a tiny summon range would be useful as an alpha absorber. Realistically, it IS crap for a tank, as the things going to get hit with the AE's the tank is directing towards himself.
I say make the things unkillable, to let everyone get equal use out of them for their intended purpose.

Your paying to play the game dude. You money pays for the server upkeep, and payroll of the people making the game.
That's ALL.
What THEY do with there time and resorces is THEIR bussiness, NOT YOURS. You pay to play. That really is all your entilted TOO. If you are unhappy with this arrangement... your only REAL choice is to take you money elseware.
Same goes for me. Same goes for everyone. Vet rewards are like a "thank you" to long term customers. It's a nice gesture IMO. And belive me, it works both ways.
I had to PAY for DvD perks after the fact, while new players just bought the DvD. I had to pay of the GvE stuff, when again, new people got it when the bought the game. I had to buy CoV, when now, you get it for free or vice versa. You buy one, you get the other free. New players now can start playing both sides of the game for practically nothing... and they complain cause i get a few more fluffy iteams then they do?

When I first saw the post for this award I was to say to least extremely pleased. I thought finally the Dev's decided to give something really cool as a thanks to the long devoted players. After reading this thread I have to say, I'm not looking forward to it anymore.
I mean damn, 10 hp -75% resistance, its a clear slap in the face. With all the AoE heavy enemies end game, whats the use of this pet. Can the pet itself be buffed?? I've also heard rumors it can only be used 3 times.

The MORE i think about it... it is, IMO not MENT for the end game.
Think about it... when are you vet temp powers most handy? The low levels! They make them easier, but fade in usefulness as you progress.
Now, the pets will prolly stay alive very easily at the start... and help with the low level growing pains, then fade in usefulness as you level.
That's what i think the devs are striving for, and it'd make since. A bit of help in the low levels, with it growing into mainly flavor by the mid to high end levels.
And its free... who can really complain?

Vet Awards, once again, have always followed the "nice-to-have" not "must have" paradigm.
Were this pet made unkillable or generally any better than it already is it would easily become a "must have".
It, almost by definition, is supposed to be trivial.
As to this rumor of yours it's only usable 3 times...
What a complete load of bollocks.
Someone you've talked to has been smoking something strange to have come up with that.
Like the 36 month pet this power has a recharge time but it is a permanent Vet power.
