Discussion: Poll for Power Set Feedback!
[ QUOTE ]
My personal preference, along with Street Fighting, would be a Staff. It's a common enough suggestion (and common enough in the comics) that I was surprised that it wasn't on the list. Hopefully enough folks will back me up here that there will be a "groundswell", as Ex Libris put it.
[/ QUOTE ]
This gets my vote. Nothing else in the poll really makes me excited.

Lightsabers anyone?

street fighting would be cool. but what woould be really awesome would be new archtypes for villains. when i hit 50 with my villain, the game said "new archtype available", but nothing was unlocked for villains and i cant use thew hero archtypes. VILLAINS NEED MORE SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO CRUSH THE HEROS!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree on some point , and villains need more since they got way less than the heroes .. why is always the heroes ...
To Dominate .. the power ! Till someone pops a break free .. no matter .. ewww clear mind , we r doomed !

I always thought a Staff would be a cool melee set. Could be used for stun attacks and have a cool AoE attack too.
[/ QUOTE ]
I could see there being a Trip (KD) and maybe a Stun with you junping in the air and a hard over head crush.

There was probably a thread on this I missed because of weak search-fu, but whatever happened to distributing the 'new powerset for every AT' that was once advertised for the since-cancelled new box edition, among Issues 9-12?
If I9 and I10 come out with no powersets, and the devs are only considering new sets for at most 4 ATs in I11 or I12, what happened to the rest?
Not to bash this efforts, scrappers and tankers need the love first, but is there a long term plan for the rest?
[/ QUOTE ]
We did plan out Power Sets for the retail box, but we've gone the route of free updates instead (woohoo!). Yep, we had some planned...and we thought about just putting those into updates as schedule permitted...
but then we thought it'd be cool if we polled the players what they wanted first. Not all of these power sets are of equal difficulty - some are tougher than others - but they are all possible. I can't promise exactly when it'll get in, but please know that we've heard loudly and clearly that players want new power sets.
BTW...Ball and Chain was my little addition last minute. It would be just be SO cool!
[/ QUOTE ]
None of the sets are for villains, who STILL don't have our Epic ATs yet. Why are you trying to increase an imbalance, instead of addressing it?

If I may pose the suggestion that the polls be done in a longer than 1 day submission window and that notification emails are sent out to the playerbase as a whole in order to get the concensous of as much of the playerbase as possible as oppesed to the minority that read the forums and also happened to notice the topic and be able to participate in the miniscule submission window.
Descriptions of the powers' effects, concept and "look & feel" would be nice as well even if it is only used as a ballpark estimation to give us an idea as to what we are actually voting on.

We want to make sure that the stuff we bring you is actually desired by the players as a whole, as opposed to a vocal minority.
[/ QUOTE ]
This statement confuses me. If they don't want the thoughts of the vocal minority, why post on the forums? We kinda seem to be the vocal minority. For example, there are over 100,000 registered users for the forums, but typically fewer than 500 will actually be on and browsing this topic. That is less than 1%. I'd hardly consider that more than a minority, just as I am sure that all the people who play the game do not read the forums. Some are not even registered.

Well, they can only work with what they've got. They can't call up the other 95,000 players and make them vote for a power. They'll have to assume that if the power Growth, for instance, gets the most votes on the boards, then that percentage also reflects the wishes of the others. It's not like the posters on the boards are a unified group that all want the game to go in a particular direction. The mix of opinions found here aren't likely to be very much different from any random group of players surveyed.
Actually that might not be true. The people on the boards are probably more interested in the direction the game is going. That's why they're on the boards. The people who don't bother will probably be happy with whatever they're given. If they cared, they'd be here.

They can send emails out to all users with valid email addresses as they have in the past (Holiday events as well as notifications of new issues going live [allbeit that the issues were usually deplyoed a few days prior to the emails being sent out]). It would be a simple task to assign each outgoing email a unique polling ID that expires at use so that each account only gets one vote but then you can truely have the majority of the user base have a say in the direction that they would like to see the game evolve. This would allow them to set a larger open window for the poll.

figure that the Force Fields one would be like the Defender Force Fields, but for personal use.
[/ QUOTE ] Booster Gold anyone?
And what the heck is WILLPOWER?!?!?
Maybe you gain NEGATIVE HP? Like you get shot but you really just don't care?
so you could actually end up at the end of a fight with -2000 HP and live just long enough give a thumbs up?
[/ QUOTE ]
The willpower reminds me of PainKiller Jane...."Just take it like a Man" kind of thing. Yeah it hurts but you keep on going. Not really sure how that would be expressed in game but anything that is new is welcomed by me
I think what the game needs is a revamp of the missions. Dont get me wrong the new power sets are awesome but if i have to grind the same missions that i already know the back stories, what is the point. I wish that the devs would put some fresh storys in for the vets. I mainly play on the red side and the one thing that is boring me to no end (will to some end, i am taking a few months off from the game because of it) is im not doing missions to find out what happens next, i pretty much know. The only contact that i have not done is Slot machine. I started over to get the hidden contacts which was awesome but now im done with them and really do not feel like grinding through Hardcase, Hard Luck and Jezebel all over again. The only thing that kept me going through the lower levels is the ability to get the new contacts. Just thought i would give my three cents
If we are talking "Radically" new, I had to go with Vibration and Growth on the Defence and Dual Blades and Street Fighting. I want something that looks distinctive and not a massaging of an old power with minor variations.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
I'm a concept guy... so I voted for the sets that I need for concepts I've been wanting to do and haven't been able to do yet.
Psionic Weaponry and Shield
Density Manipulation and Shield
Liberty Server...
Citizen Osiris - lvl 50 Dark/Dark Defender (Citizens Elite Force - Base Commander)
Citizen Anubis - lvl 50 BS/Dark Scrapper
Citizen Meltdown - lvl 50 Fire/Rad Controller
Citizen Onslaught - lvl 50 Fire/Kin Controller
With Growth, I think every attack should be an AoE as hits with large hands would cover a wide area. Also make the growth aspect a click power that cost no endurance (END cost coming from the subsequent attacks and based of the size you grow to). This might be tough, but let the size limit be dictated by the height of the map, maybe something like 3/4 the ceiling height. If we go through a doorway, just reduce size. I see a problem with using object like Battle Axe or Mace, unless they grow with you (and become AoE only) I know this is one of the really tough ones, but you cant get any more different than this.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
I voted:
-Psi Weaponry
-Shield Attack
And:
-Growth
-Shield Defense
If I could have chosen a 3rd Defense set? Density Control
Very close 4th: Willpower.

We kinda seem to be the vocal minority.

That's you assuming that the percentage of a group surveyed somehow won't reflect the opinions of the majority. All I'm saying is that you can't make people get off their butts if they don't want to, and I say that if they don't want to, then they get what they get. I am all for the majority getting representation, but everyone who logs on to the game sees the link to this forum, what more do they need?
This is the first time I've ever logged on to the boards myself, and I did it because I was interested in the results of the survey. I posted my opinion a page or so back. Nobody held my hand and sent me an email telling me to do it.
[ QUOTE ]
Is street fighting just a mix of kicks/punches/martial arts? Or is it brass knuckles, bats, chains, switchblades and broken bottles? Cuz the former is just a variation on MA/DM and the latter would rule.
[/ QUOTE ]
I could see the brass knuckles and the bat for Street Fighting, but the chain would have set it back a bit due to physics reasons.
Order of Preference for Weapons:
(1) Psionic Weaponry
(2) Shields
(3) Electric Hammer
(4) Dual Blades
(5) Street Fighter
(6) Ball & Chain
(7) Energy Blade
The top two are far and away my preferences, considering we already have different forms of blades, as well as weapons similar to street fighter and ball & chain. Yes, the hammer is also similar to what's already around - but it's ELECTRIC... as a long-time Thor fan, I definitely enjoy considering the possibilities there.
As for the defensive sets:
(1) Force Field
(2) Willpower
(3) Vibration
(3a) Density Control
(4) Shields
(5) Growth
Force field would give the tech/science meleers a new theme and the magically themed possibilities are endless (one caveat - I'd rather have force fields that are not bubbles, though - fine for the defenders, but please something that's more formed to the body). Will power is great addition for those that want to travel down the "natural" path - something that's rather limited in possibilities right now. Vibration and density just sound interesting - don't know enough to give an opinion, but I like the potential. Shields as defense? Meh...nothing too exciting there in my opinion. And growth? I like the idea, I suppose, but not all the complications that would have be solved as part of it. If anything, put that one on the backburner for now, and come back to it after implementing some more choices for meleers sooner rather than later.
Just my quick 2 cents.
For melee, I cast my vote for dual blades and psionic weapons.
For defense, willpower and forcefield.
Perhaps design the dual blades with kind of a chinese feel- we have Japanese and european weapons- I'm thinking tai chi-style swords or perhaps sabers, commonly called Dao or chinese broadswords.

BTW...where is the "Chuck Norris" power set?
You know:
Left Roundhouse kick to the head
Right Roundhouse kick to the head
Both legs roundhouse kick to the head
Intense stare - fear
Sitting and waiting - taunt/pravoke
Fake jab/haymaker combo followed by the real attack...a roundhouse kick to the head
His Beard for a defensive sheild
Remember, Chuck Norris's tears can cure cancer, that is if he ever cried!....His roundhouse kicks can be seen from space, with the naked eye.......his foot traveled so fast in a roundhouse kick once that it traveled back in time and kicked Amelia Earhart out of the sky where by she was lost forever!
I want them all.
All choices seem so cool, how can I choose?!
Street fighting and density control
Second choice psi weapons and Force fields.
Plaes give these to both ATs. Also woudl like to see more sets crossed between the two. Like Firey melee adn dark melee.
Let me get this straight. This poll was open for less than 1 day?
Electric Hammer and Shield.
Electric Hammer because it looks so cool in my imagination.
Shield because, well because. C'mon, we've had Broadsword from the beginning and it absolutely begs for a shield to pair with it.
