I9 Statesman's Task Force Preview - Discussion

I think both sides will have the 1 HO per day limit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Technical correction: I believe it's "you can only do the Hami Trial once every 24 hours" not "one HO a day". So if you don't get an HO out of it, you still can't go again until tomorrow. However, if the StatesTF also offers HOs, I'm pretty sure you can do that even if you've done the Hami Trial that day (StatesTF stuff is merely speculation, though).

I keep seeing people posting about having done LRSF with OTHER than the old "optimal" grouping. It probably does need to be fixed, but the whole "you can't do it without these ATs!" thing has been shown to be baloney. It's just HARDER, that's all.

Please tell me that the flier is on the heroes side, as it seems to be shooting LR or the guy LR is attacking...

Looks to me like it's shooting at the guy with the mech wings right behind Ol' Spiderpuss.

you know what my ice/fire dom adds to the LRSF? moderate damage... Why choose him over a corrupter?
Look everyone its this plan and this simple... Ok so u got to fight all them at once and the flier ... And if u figure it that is still only 6 .. The RSF is 8 heroes ... And some of us did it when they was 54's like me .... So dont cry about it just deal with it.. And i hope they are 54's starting to b/c are at least 53's like it was for longest on us .... So u need to stop crying about everything suck it up and find away around it like we have had to do ...

How will the people who don't have CoV be able to get into Grandville?
[/ QUOTE ]
It'll be an instanced outdoor map I'm sure. You wont be going to the actual villain zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I sure hope my complete unplayability issue I have in GV doesn't make the STF an exercise in futility.
I can't believe they do not understand that a substantial portion of the player base simply can't run GV with an acceptable framerate?

its officially gone to the americans.

Dark Defender's can pitch hit for Controllers in most circumstances. And Ice/Ice Blasters.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't say Ice/Ice blasters could, they only have single target control and not the AoE control controllers specialize in. Dark defenders can manage as a substitute with their fear cone and black hole.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are lots of AoE control available. Defenders, Peacebringers and Warshade can pinch hit if Controllers are not avail or down
I suspect they will be needed to take down Lord Recluse. He is still a Mastermind in part anyway. If you don't tackle his hechmen spawns, you will eventually be overwhelmed. Bane Spiders are very nasty. Even more so in large numbers. In case some didn't know, they have Stalker-like abilities.

[/ QUOTE ]
Hey! I resent that. Not all americans are idiots, dont generalize. Most of them are.
So..why am I the only other person on this thread who has braught up the new power? I mean...CLEARLY there is something new there. Im refering to the single large spike comming out of one, possibly both hands on one of the heroes on one of the screenies. Personally I hope its a new dual blade stalker/scrapper set, but I think thats abit much to hope for. Maybe at best just some new spines graphics? But would they REALLY change the spines graphics that drastically? I highly doubt it. So whats the deal guys?? lol, im kinda excited. Not about the TF. lol....but the spike. LETS TALK ABOUT THE SPIKE!

We wanted there to be a reason to have Archetypes other than Blasters and Defenders on your team. Controllers will find themselves greatly desired in the final battle if the team wants to have any chance of winning.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't quite see how they can say they learned something and then say this. Having a certain AT be required, which is basically what this says, is no better than having one or more be marginalized.
At best this needs to be clarified.

Agreed. I am already dreading logging my empath on for any other purpose then this TF.
Shadowy Presence - Absolutely, positively worse than playing a Kheldian... --Myrmydon
I dont know if i truly want to even try this Task Force.
Seeing what has happeed with the Recluse Strike Force....
I just feel that anything that not everyone can enjoy...is just not something i like.
I find it pathetic right now on the villain side of the game that people only will team with specifc players with specifc powers.... which means over 75% of the players will never have a chance to experience that game content.
And i can't help thinking that this is another one of those things happening.
Sad thing is the Recluse SF is very well done and challenging. Up to the final 2 mishes of the SF and that is where all your carful planning on how to do it falls apart and it just devolves into a veng bait, shivan, beat down.
I know I know that it can be done different ways other the nuke/shiv/veng combo, but it still frustrating when you don;t go that route and have team wipe after team wipe, after team wipe on your hands.

Because you want to do it? You just need a team not stuck in "optimal only!!!!" mode.

No, having certain abilities be /required/ to beat something is /good/. We /need/ more of this. In old school RPG's you had to have all your bases covered with classes. Every class has specific roles that had to accomplish that only they could accomplish. Now everything is really homogenized because, "Oh no we don't want them to be stuck if they can't find /blank/." Well dammit, this is a big [censored] mission. I say put stuff in the missions at are /impossible/ to say, hit with melee. Or things that need to be controlled to advance, make things that you /need/ a tank there to taunt away otherwise they'll waste everyone. And of course you'll need defenders to keep the party going and scrappers to deal with the hordes of things that /are/ in melee range. Do it, I want teams to die and team wipe because they thought they could run it without X AT because "dey are squishy". I want people to cry and wail in misery and gnash their teeth for building unbalanced teams and neglecting ATs. Maybe it's a bit harsh, but /not/ doing this is what leads to people running teams through LRSF with only certain classes. Because if you don't /need/ an AT for the job and another AT is /easier/ to run it with, then people are going to go with the AT that is /easier/. No question.
Oh yes, and thank you for putting mayhem mission action into this. I agree with others when I say that I don't think anyone wanted to bust up civie things, but we certainly wanted to put a hurting on recluse's engine of destruction. Now you've done it and put it into the kind of epic TF that's going to make it cool and makes more sense. (Because really, how often do the heros bust into the evil lair to cause some havoc?)
And for those of you who worry about lag... it's time to upgrade. I'm sorry. It's only going to get worse from here on in. 7900GT cards running on PCI-E will run this game quite well on a 2.2GHZ processor.

It's true that a lot of MMORPGs count on players sticking to the classic triad/pentad group make-up when tackling the big dungeons/instances/encounters. But I would not be surprised if the bulk of players who enjoy CoH and CoV appreciate how Cryptic has largely deviated from that particular formula.
Personally, I rather like the fact that most task forces can be done with virtually any team composition. It provides variety in the encounters and allows players to use different tactics depending on the particular team make-up. Putting in designs that *require* certain ATs just narrows down player options and tactics. Is that something most CoH/V players want? I'd wager not, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
Now, providing the opportunity for an AT to shine in a TF by presenting obstacles it is suited for overcoming is *good*. Allowing for teams lacking such an AT to brute force their way through or use different tactics is even better. This is hopefully what Positron is meaning when he cites controllers as being desireable for the Statesman's TF.
My 50 blaster is so ready for this.

Last I knew "greatly desired" and "needed" meant two different things. It's helpful if you don't read things in that aren't there.

AFAIK, the LRSF allows for one HO reward a day. I believe you can run it as often as you want, but after you select that HO, you're stuck snagging something else every time after until 24 hours later. With I9, there will also be TF Pool rewards available as rewards. STF should operate the exact same way. I'm thinking that Positron mentioned that rare drops will be avilable as rewards upon Hami defeat/complete with no suggestion that he could only be raided every so often, only that the time-gated HO mechanic would be making its way Hero-side.
It be late and I be sleepy, so someone else will have to looking for redname posts/interviews if the want the word straight from the horse's mouth.
The preview looks great. i can't wait to see if all ATs truly are welcomed and able to contribute. If it is as well done as this preview suggests, I can only hope similar well designed changes are made to the Recluse SF.
Level 50 is a journey, not a destination.
▲Scrapper Issues List - Going Rogue Edition▲
I'm absolutely positive I saw a mention about the new Hami Trial being on a 24 hour timer, not the reward. On the other hand, my searchfu with my dialup prevents me from finding it (it'd take me several hours...no kidding, REALLY bad dialup here at work).
That said, if the LRSF is on an HO timer (new info to me, thanks), I can't deny the possibility that the StatesTF will be the same. I did say my stuff about the StatesTF was speculation. Who knows? They may change both, or neither. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't like it.
Not because of the AT balance, that's nice.
Not because of Oranbega, I like that place.
But because the Statesman Task Force, the grand be-all-end-all of missions, is against Arachnos.
Arachnos, who, if you don't set foot in Faultline or PvP zones, and you ignore the mindless repetition of band missions, you NEVER SEE.
Personally, I thought the final fight in the STF should be against enemies you've definitley seen, and couldn't avoid, like Arachnos or Longbow on CoV. Personally, I always liked the idea of a mass jailbreak, headed by Baron Zoria and Nemesis. Fill the other points with villain group leaders everyone knows like Doc Vahz, Crey and Requiem, and you've got a solid epic fight against people who've been your enemies the whole game.
As it stands? Foes you barely know the backstory of if you didn't play CoV. And last I checked, parts of the STF were constructed to show hero-only players things only CoV got beforehand. Why spoil it by filling it with enemies that if you only play CoH you only know exist and run the Rogue Isles?
[ QUOTE ]
This better include a revamp of the LRSF as it is now, in the near future. Because the STF sounds like fun, whereas the LRSF is just a boring, lame, utterly pathetic excuse for a "challenge".
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe they're going to have us test the STF before they rush off and make any changes to the LRSF?
I mean, they might think they've worked something cooler and more balanced out, but you know how these things can go...
Either way, it sounds super neat and I'm really looking forward to hearing about the new Hami Content
seriously, try fixing the RSF to be playable for those that are not corrupters and granite brutes before doing this.
