I won't be happy until elec/ gets a fix. The animations, damage, and endurance drain do not balance out. It's friggin electricity so why doesn't it hurt?

Third actually. Second in one thread though. Which surely must be a sign of the end times.

Okay, I can understand why everyone's not getting all excited about this. I know where the skepticism is coming from.

[/ QUOTE ]

Or as the Bard once said, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me fourteen or fifteen times and we're talkin' a Lifetime made-for-tv movie."

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe I should know better, but I am a little excited about this. After all, this isn't another "We'll look into it after we balance tankers and scrappers and controllers and dominators and ....." And it isn't "Maybe sometime soon we'll think about the possibility of maybe some day doing something about the blaster secondaries." It's a specific change, on a sort-of-specific timeline. And while it may not be a huge improvement, it's one that I personally think might make a lot of difference.

I once said--actually I'm not sure if I said it, but if I didn't say it I thought it--that about 80% of my dissatisfaction would go away if they would only give those short-ranged blasts a decent range. Well, now it looks like they will. So I'm happy. I choose to believe that it actually will happen.

I admit, though, that I'm really curious about why Fire was the primary singled out to get other improvements. It would seem to be one of the ones least in need of it. Still, I'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth. I'll just have to wait and see on that one.

I can totally understand your excitement. Been there before myself... repeatedly. Only so many times Lucy can pull the ball away at the last second before Charlie goes all medieval on her [censored]. Or, you know, says hang the damned game.

I think someone hacked Castles account, only explanation!

The jerk hackers? Oh noes! _Castle_ is gone to the Americas!

*shudder*

Well, it's good to see Castle hasn't been executed yet.

As for my idea, you bring up good points, 0hms, which is why I was hesitant to even suggest it.

I do believe a compromise can be worked out to where /ice and /fire look more like /nrg, in terms of effectiveness.

Then again, I built an archery/energy blaster with only Power thrust, Build Up, Conserve Power, and Power Boost...so, it's possible to not be a blapper. That's what I'm wanting to see with the secondaries, have it based where in the same secondary (regardless of primary) you can stay at range or go into melee, without being "gimped".

My guess would be because fire is mainly damage with only DoT as a effect. With others you get drains, kb, slows and that. I would think it would be much easier to tweak as a starting point before diving it to the others.

No need to be hesitant in throwing out ideas. They might fly, they might not, they might spark someone else. For the record, my Arch/Elec only have E-Fence, Build Up and Shocking Grasp (as opposed to my Elec/Elec/Elec, who was a Blapptroller). You can run Rangers. Gimp is a state of mind. Except in PvP where you have to have the right build or you're boned. But that's a rant for another day. But it would be nice to have more things like Power Boost and Conserve Power and the like.

and boost range, hell boost range should be in a epic somewhere so blasters of all forms can choose it

and my elec/energy blapper is very good in pvp, its not about the build its about how you can play your build and if you have a team or not.

unless your in the arena but i hate arenas

I have a nice energy/fire blaster at lvl 50 right now. As much as I like fire (cause its pretty) the really fun powers like blazing aura, hotfeet and the AOEs have a slight tendency to agro a few dozen more people on me then I'd like. I do wish I could have greater fire sword though since I like fire sword a lot....but I'd really settle for a fear effect since most people are scared of getting burned anyways. Just a thought.

Actually, that's a good point. Fire is the only "element" in the game that doesn't have some sort of secondary effect, since extra DoT isn't nearly as helpful as the devs initially thought. It's part of what makes /Fire suck so much, too.

Maybe they could stick a small damage debuff onto Fire attacks? I'm kind of at a loss how fire would make something less capable of hurting you, but it's the one kind of debuff no attack set inflicts yet, and Assault Rifle/Broadsword/Radiation Blast debuffing defense doesn't make a whole lot of sense either.

Any additional secondary effect to Fire Blast is likely to come at the price of the additional DoT.

That said, a small To Hit Debuff could be appopriate, because its sort of hard to aim when you're on fire.

The fix to blaster secondaries is quite easy, actually.

Just dump all the powers that are worthless. (Blazing aura, Burnpatch, Electric field, auto turret, etc) And replace them with powers that blasters can actually use.

Like:
Blazing Aura ---> Char
Auto Turret ---> Poison Gas Trap

Also, for anyone else who argues that getting more damage-mitigating abilities for their secondary would overpower them, I have one word for you: Corruptors

Corruptors do only 75% of the damage that blasters do. Wouldyou like to have your damage dropped too?

Replacing some of the secondary powers with more mitigation is a good idea, but it has to be done carefully, or it *will* be overpowered.

Posted

Corruptors also have scourge.

I don't think is has to be done carefully. Just make blasters as craptastic at damage mitigating (debuffs/holds/powers like ice patch/etc) as defenders are at damage dealing.

And, just for the record:

Am I bitter about the lack of changes we've seen...Since Beta? Hells yes!

[ QUOTE ][*] This nerf, I strongly suspect, has little to do with a PvE exploit but a PvP one.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to have to call you to task on this one Ohms........you can't blame everything bad on PvP. This is ham fisted dev blundering and nothing more. The biggest problem with TP foe was being able to port the turrets off of the pillboxes in RV. Yeah I know, RV is a "PVP zone". That's what they call it but on Justice there is very little PVP going on in there and I suspect it's the same on other servers. The zone gets more use from badgers than it ever did from PVPers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey! See "quite easy" this is not? Just because you haven't figured out how to use a power does not mean said power is wothless.

I'm sorry, were people unclear on 'major power substitutions aren't going to happen'? On a good day the powers you already have will be made more aplicable to the problems you are dealing with - not better, more applicable. You'll be a lot better served by figuring out what small tweaks would make what you have now make you happier, in a "more stylish, not stronger" way. The notion of adding some fear to /fire seems promising - it's logical and it would actually let you shed some aggro instead of concentrating it to the point of faceplating. Auto-turret could be extremely useful if it had a strong taunt component - it would pull hits off you and on to a portable reserve of HP as things had to take the time to destroy the turret. Swapping out a power for something like build up if you don't already have it is just entirely the wrong thing to be hoping for.
