Just wanted to thank you guys for supporting the community so well. It's a breath of fresh air to deal with devs and designers who pay attention and inform the community of whats going on. Makes me feel like my money is well spent. I'm in a two account household (actually 2.5 - 2 active one inactive) and I'll be purchasing one online and one in the stores to upgrade both accounts.

P.S. Whats the hero gear kit, did I miss one?

o.o no sheepish sounds for you! sure, the first restart doc wasn't that great and didn't stick around for even a whole season, but the current one (US is getting the seasons a yr behind) is much better!

back on topic:

<.< I think some of us are looking at this wrongly. Vets will get into the VIP lounge, just through a different way, we'll actually get a gold card, the ppl with the DvsE will have to tp in, those who get both can do whatever. o.o the teleporting (if only works in pocket-D) isn't really to their advantage, it just lets ppl who haven't been around for awhile a chance to join those who have.. the only other bonus really is a badge and prestige power.. which has always been restricted to a few ppl anyway.

>.> course, the two newer prestige powers are easier and still obtainable.. no one's even listed a coh pre-order on ebay in the last 2 yrs -.-

The official Good/Evil edition page mentions you get the comics...does this include the Blue King back issues on DVD?

I am STILL waiting on Blue King #12. 1 - 11 are on the download page, but #12 is NOT. I want it

I'll likely be going code pay at $ 10...everything else sounds good.

1.)This $9.99 Upgrade is $40.00 cheaper than the boxed Expansion we were originally planning on shelling out for.

2.)Since alot of us plan on getting the upgrade plus the veteren's rewards, we would like them to be different and not redundant.

3.) While we may like things for free, companies won't spend as much money developing freebies as they will items they will profit from. $9.99 is a small price to pay to get features that would have most likely not existed otherwise.

[/ QUOTE ]Ugh....Why do people like you think that an expansion pack cost $50. Expansions go for $20-$30. If you've ever payed more than you got ripped off.

Will we be seeing these items as apart of the Veteran Rewards system after I8 launch or as future rewards?

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont see them giving away for free what they're trying to sell for money. Thats not exactly smart marketing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Depending on what you get.

Three cups max. More like two.

Well, I thought there could be a chance to "reward" people who have been playing for almost 3 years instead of guaging them. It seems like this is the perfect thing to introduce into a rewards system, but you're right, why give something away when you can charge for it?

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe the word you're looking for is "gouge". Which would be a childish, over-entitled sort of description to use.

They have a veteran rewards system, which will reward long term subscribers. However, it doesn't make sense to give away for free what people are willing to pay for, and it doesn't make sense to replace other possible veteran rewards with something that anyone who wants it can buy for the cost of a few cups of coffee. Hell, I haven't been inside a Starbucks lately, $9.99 could be the cost of a small coffee there by now I guess.

I think the best thing is - finally a prestiage power that stacks with other prestiage powers and/or sprint!

Yes, please, word on the box set price? I like to touch the box, so I will be buying a boxed Good vs. Evil set for both my accounts. How much will two boxes hurt me (which dictates how much my wife hurts me if she finds out how much I spend on this game).

Might you eventually release the in-games items from the Hero Gear Kit as a stand alone purchase also? Maybe even as a combo in-game only purchase with this offer?

I actually agree with Jeffrey. It would have been a nice opportunity to actually make good in a substantial manner on the concept of veteran rewards. Of course from a marketing standpoint it makes more sense to try to sell it, but I don't understand why we as consumers should be cheering them on for charging us for that which we'd have certainly appreciated receiving for free.

I seriously do not understand the MMO-community mentality that companies are entitled to or at least deserve customers cheerleading their efforts to maximise profits and defend them with great vigour when another customer expresses displeasure.

[/ QUOTE ]
Have you taken into account what would happen if they DID use the veteran rewards system to give out things from special editions? What would the people who already have them say? "Oh boy, this month I get prestige power slide... again!"

It would be the cheap way out on the veteran rewards. They should be unique things, not just a means for people to get things for free that others paid for.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've seen several people comment that the Veteran Rewards are free. They aren't. I've paid for mine, and you've paid for yours.

Do not take the above as a negative, Dev-slamming statement. It's not. Cryptic is bringing us more bang for our buck and I'm looking foward to it. But it's not free. If I hadn't given them the $400-$500 I have, I wouldn't get the Veteran Rewards.

Can you tell us if the jetpack will remain visible or will it vanish when the 30 seconds is up. Obviously the power benefit would vanish after the 30 seconds but.. just hoping there's a way to keep it visible for those characters who want that option for their costume.

[/ QUOTE ]

From a powers/animation standpoint, the backpack geometry fades away after a period of non-use. I do not believe the geometry is available as a 'Cape' option so it is always present, though. I'm not Jay, though, so I could certainly be wrong!

[/ QUOTE ]

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I cannot begin to exress my displeasure over the notion that the jetpack will be an acvtual jetpack.

DON'T DO IT.

Having a jetpack means we'll ave mystical magical wizards flying around on them... or not, because they don't want to 'break character".

Demons with jetpacks?

listen, make it a simple non object animation, something I can work into my character even if it's called "jetpack".

I'll explain.

many of my characters use prestige power slide. However, not all of them do.

When a character can manipulate certain energies or the like they're more likely to use powerslide,

Other characters, those who simply "run" or do not have the abilitiy to manipulate said energies, use sprint.

The prestige Powerslide can be turned into MANY different things. It's that open ended.

It could come from a mutants abilities, a magical spel, heck, a pair of techno shoes... either way, all origins can incorporate it into their design.

A jetpack would be flat out stupid on a great many characters and would force people to choose between suspension of disbelief and convenience.

That is a BAD choice to push onto players.

As part of a special promotion to have recruit more heroes, D.A.T.A. is authorized the funds to create special 'jetpacks' for distribution to a certain percentage of new registered heroes.

Lord Recluse offers the jetpack to all that flock to his banner (but the real reason is so he can track the suckers who grab this better).

There's plenty of reasons that can be thought up to justify why anyone could have these packs, that could work with most any background.

From the look of the picture, it was a short back, like a duct. This would hide under a cape.

I don't know about that. From this picture it seems to be OUTSIDE the cape. Though it is really short.

I still like it though. I can think of plenty of RP reasons for this being part of one's costuem.

So this jump jet... is it like the Jingle Jet or is it just a 30 second power on or something? Sorry if this was asked already.

From Positron:
[ QUOTE ]
It's a little different than Superjump. It's a little different than flight.

It's kinda like a Superjump where you can "add height" at any point in the jump (even when you are falling back down) by pressing the spacebar. By itself its horizontal mobility is limited, but you do carry your forward momentum into your jump. This means that superspeeders will get a huge horizontal jump out of it.

It helps the other Travel Powers too, so it has a benefit even when you have another travel option:

Fly: Increases the speed of Flying
Superleap: Increases your Jump height and distance
Superspeed: Get the above mentioned horizontal jump
Teleport: You can use it to extend your "hover" time by hitting spacebar when you are falling.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
It runs for 30 seconds, and has a base recharge time of 150 seconds. The inobvious caveat of "these numbers can change at any time" applies here too.

I doubt the jetpack geometry will be persistant after the power is used, much like the "Jingle Jet" or the Sky Raider jet temp power. Although I agree with you on the point that the Jump Jet geometry should not stay after the power is used, I am still hoping that actual jet pack models will apear as "Back Options" for I8. My tech-themed character could really use one

Ok here's a question for ya...

Is this limited like the Hero Gear kit/CoH CE?

Or can people comin' late to the game get a chance to get the code too?

(Considering the near-zero production cost of the code... I'd lean to "not limited" side)

I'll probably get one right away, but my GF probably won't...

(also it'd be nice if we could "toggle off" the booster graphic... My fire/ice blaster wouldn't need a jump-jet pack, but just use an "after burner" power (activate a fire power while flying... leaves a trail of fire behind ya...))

It seems like there's a pretty good chance that it won't be limited. The Hero Gear Kit was probably limited due to the included RL items.
