Official Thread for Masterminds: Thugs

1. I love the pistols (reminds of the DD44's in M64:Goldeneye, looks-wise) and the animations. The sideways shooting style (while ineffective in real life, some people do shoot like that) was a nice surprise. I love it.

2. I love the Thug summon. Doesn't take too long to animate and is only intolerable in groups of Thug MMs. At least, to me. I think maybe a shorter whistle or a softer, quick double-whistle (just as you would call a dog) would be a little better, though.

I like when my asian thugs pop in and I get to upgrade'em. Makes me feel like a part of the Yakuza. =P

3. I've been asking myself "Why are my Thugs mentally handicapped?" In Mayhem Missions, they like shuttle-running between the Large Metal Crates and myself. They'll attack anything else I tell them to... except those. Why do they stand next to cars and shoot, if I forget to take them off of Aggressive? Why do they not take GoTo commands well? They tend to run back and shoot things I don't want them to.

4. While it's not a HUGE issue, shells ejecting from revolvers is a bit silly (though makes for a nice trail on the floor).

5. As someone had pointed out, before... please allow for some randomized hench-women (even in the Mercs and Ninja sets; man, kunoichi would be awesome to have).

Can't think of much else. Only made it to Lv13, so far.

Yes this way, anyone coming in late to a mission can easily find you.

On another note. Someone mentioned there is away to find the powers of your pets. How is that? cause I tried repeatedly with no luck.

Gang War posse is a targeted summon, which isnt really all that bad, except that they seem to be permanently in defensive mode, and only attack if you or they take damage.

Having to take one for the team ,so to speak, to get them to attack really hinders the power's effectiveness.

But on the other hand, it looks really friggin cool having 14 henchmen lol

The way I check the powers of my pets, Kenja, is by checking the info of their icons. Under Resistance, it lists what the basic pet can do, while under the equip and upgrade icons, it tells you what their bonus powers are (but the Bruiser is bugged, and lists assault rifle attacks under the Resistance icon).

I must agree, that the Thug "feel" is really pretty cool. I can't precisely put my finger on why, but the pistols have a nice, SOLID sound to 'em, especially when your shots knock somebody down. Mercs come close, but machine guns just don't have the same punch...in a game anyway. Yeah yeah, in real life they-. Pshh, whatever. It's really awesome when your henches knock somebody down, then you pull both guns out, and drill the cabron while he's laying on the floor.

Like I said, there's a feel to the Thugs set that I just really like. They feel more, I dunno...realistic. They aren't coldly efficient like the Ninja and Mercs, nor are they quite as out there as the Undead. It's like the difference between a disciplined martial arts match, and a drunken pit-fight.

Can't wait for it to go live.

Castor and Pollux are figures in Greek Mythology, children of Zeus and Leda the swan and sibs to Helen of Troy. No idea about the others.

Edit: Found the video still picture. This is what I expected the Thugs to look like. And I don't care if they couldn't keep the trenchcoats at least these guys have some meat on their bones and visual flavor.

That IS how they look once they get the second upgrade.

[/ QUOTE ]

You have seen this on test? No offense but there are so many posts with people saying this only for them to say its speculation or wishful thinking when pressed. Do you have screens from test with the upgrade? Maybe just links to some or a thread with someone who is high enough to say for sure?

I really, really hope you are right but until I see some current test screens I have to agree with Raindog that it seems way to radical a costume change for an upgrade power based on what the second upgrade does for the current crop MMs on live. Again I hope I am wrong.

I don't personally have my thug mm up to that lvl yet but I know of some who do. I don't have any screens of them right now, but I'll go ahead and take some when i get back on test this weekend (stuck at school for finals yuck ) unless someone else beats me to it.

Well, yes. That, too. I honestly didn't think anyone would know that, so I didn't think to specify.

The names of my Thugs are all Game/Movie references. *gives you a big, head-sized cookie, anyhow* =O

Castor and Pollux were characters in Final Fantasy somethingorother... twins, magic users...

Gades is... not the guy from Escaflowne, is it?

No idea on the other three

Wasn't Gades one of the Sinistrals in the Lufia series? I seem to recall Tenryuu saying he was a fan of that series.

Of course, that's not to say Gades didn't get his name from some other source.

Yeah, Gades was a Sinistral. In Lufia 2, if you beat him in one round, you got his sword.

I think. Been awhile since I've had the SNES emulator.

Giant, head-sized cookies to both Oconnor and Primal. =D

- Blade, Lazer, and Blazer were names of three of the Cobras in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story.

- Castor and Pollux Troy were inspired by the characters in the movie Face/Off.

- Gades, the Sinistral of Destruction, was in both Lufia I and II. Very big guy who packs a mean punch (and yes, I'm quite the fan of those games).

Gives me a warm, tingly feeling in my big, bad heart to know that there are people who know these things. =D

I like the MM Thug powerset. So far it is the one AT that seemed most evil from the beginning. Dual Wield seems to fit the character perfectly.

The first pet power, Call Thugs, leaves me thinking.. what a bunch of whimps. I was expecting Bikers or brutes or if weaker then at least diabolical. These thugs should definately not be out so late I think. They seem to kill out of crankiness instead of ruthlessness. Bigger Thugs I think, or crazy. There is something very Walmart-ish about the Thugs. Maybe Walmart is a good place to get Thugs, never tried, but it is unlikely.

In Charleston, SC, Wal*Mart is the perfect place to find Thugs...

..seriously.

Well they just don't fit with most Thug MM's. Think about it. Unless maybe it was a Thug MM modeled after Colonel Sanders or such. Megalomaniac restaurant giant, etc.

So I say at least give the Summon Thugs power a makeover. Give them the twisted faces and darker outfits maybe. If they need to be small types at least make them look evil.

Lesson of the day? Numeric keypad binds are your best friend as an MM.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can't, they're already all in use with movement directions, strafing, turning, jumping, running, following, targeting near and next, camera distance, camera directions. Might be more, I forget. I don't have to think about it in the game, I just do it.

Point is, left hand is all attacks/pet commands, right is...that other stuff. F keys are binds...I'm not sure what's left other than letters, but I am sure if I stick them in some obscure place I'll forget where they are.

[/ QUOTE ]

I use P,O,I,U,Y for my petcom binds. I'm not really sure how you can play an MM successfully by only using the game-provided macros. My advise is "If you don't have room for new binds on your keyboard....make some." Just my $.02.

Okay, Thug Mastermind set impressions to level 7:

Overall, Very nice so far. Pistols Rock! The cycling through skins thing doesn't bother me at all. Keeps the henchmen fresh...And what badguy doesn't get different henchmen from time to time? Naming switchable flunkies doesn't bother me either. Helps keep track of mine over someone elses (The two so far are: J. Cagney and Sid the Squid)

So far I have no problem with them following me anywhere on mercy or in the instanced maps. Now that they get dual weild with the power up I find that there is little we can't handle white to yellow con and even orange if there aren't too many other members of the mob we go after.

Haven't been able to take them into a MM yet. (Still in Mercy hunting my way to Lvl 8 before venturing to Port Oaks)

Liking th set very much so far and looking forward to getting my Pyro...Think I'll name him BUG (Blow'em Up Good)

So far, having too much fun with being a Mafia Maul and ordering Thugs around. I'm a bit concerned about how much enjoyment I get out of seeing and hearing the two pistols come out, load a round and then fire.

One small complaint. I notice the Equip Thugs animation is the same as the mercenary MM equip. I'd much preferred them tossing the thug a big wad of money and they shove it in their pockets, or something like that. Seems to fit the thug personna a bit more and how they are motivated by money. Just a suggestion

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm HOPING this is just a place-holder animation. The very first animation for upgrading your bots in beta was like the animation/vfx for the repair power. This glowing spot would appear on the floor and electricity would shoot up from it and it looked like there were little 'things' (I thought nanobots) swarming in the glow as it headed toward the bot. It'd hit the bot, do the repair efx and come back to you.

So HOPEFULLY this is just a place-holder until they do something better.

I have noticed that no matter the mode I am in or how I attack with my pets in what combo what ever, when facing Longbow they will most of the time forgo my pets and just attack me. While this is a great techneque, mms are to weak to be able to take the damage of a full group of longbow by themselves, (meaning without pets) and all you get is debt.

[/ QUOTE ]

Try using Guardian mode /petcom_<whatever> def foll
will set them to guardian. That way if something hits you, they start in on it AND they absorb some of the damage you took.
