I see this best implemented as a specific type of arena match. Superpowered soccer! A goal on each end of a large flat arena, with teams trying to KB/push the ball into the opposing team's goal. The ball should be affected my most powers, such as TP foe, inertial dampening, AOE debuffs, etc. To make it fair though, the ball might have to be immune to force bubble- otherwise you just park your FF defender as goalie and watch the opposing team cry. And the ball should have very low, or even negative KB resistance so that even powers without a KB component would send flying back in the direction of the hit. This is such a 5-star, huge fun idea! I don't know why it hasn't been suggested before!
Of course, the OP is right that just having a big red bouncy ball to play with in zones would be fun too, but I really se it taking off as an arena event. Perhaps it could even lure people back to the almost deserted arenas! I'd want one in Pocket D too- that way griefers would have fewer places they could "hide" the ball to deny others fun.

Many CoH zones have Basketball courts (Kings Row, Skyway, and Steel in particular). Why not a mini-game of basketball with the big red ball?

In one zone in CoH (Talos) and one zone in CoV (Nerva) there should be a single big red ball that does absoutly nothing except when you attack it, it gets knocked back a bit. By every attack not just knockback attacks. It cant be destoryed or anything, just a Big Red Ball to hit around, thats it.
How big is big?
Well not huge. Just like 1 meter in diameter. Thats Big for a Red Ball!
The reason for just one and being in just one zone is so you dont run into it every time you log on. Maby you'll only run into it once a month or something, then youll be like "WOW! a Big Red Ball!" then you will knock it around for a few minuties laughing very hard then you will leave saying "What a cool Big Red Ball"

Bah Lord Recluse had a thing with Michael Jordan back in the 80's and it led to him wiping out all basketball courts, we're not allowed to play.

there have been a lot of suggestions moving the ball all over paragon and spawning multiple instances of the ball in other zones. I still think that the OP was the best way to implement this. one ball. one zone. always there. not always seen.
That's because basketball was invented in the New world. The isles bless their ugly hearts, are soooooo old-world....

It'd be neat to have eventually, kids playing baseball or soccer or basketball in the game, so they could run and scatter... and drop their equipment.

really i think everyone should have the option of the red ball, i would hate to be in the mood to play with the red ball, and some punk hides in between some dumpsters or something. Make Red ball a perma power, or a temp power one can purchase in stores/at npcs for say 100 influence and have it last a week or 3 days or something. I just want to be waiting outside a mission, and be able to play with my ball.. wow i never thought i would say that in a video game forum.
anyways the ball thing is a great idea, and if it was a temp power that expired, how funny would it be to see you bump the red ball, it bounces a few times then *BAM*, power expires hehe.
the ball could have some sort of respawn AI.. to where if it was stationary for a certain amount of time it would respawn somewhere else.
How bout a "Charlie Brown" wrinkle, where if you're running up the the ball to hit it melee-style it suddenly jumps a few feet to the side at the last second, causing you to whiff and land in the mud?
