Bodyguard

Setting to Bodyguard
You can set any Mastermind Henchman to Bodyguard by selecting the Defensive Stance and the Follow Order. Your Henchmen must be within Supremacy range for this function to work.

Bodyguard Mode
When set to Bodyguard mode, the Mastermind and his Henchmen share damage from any attack that the Mastermind takes damage from. Each Henchman takes one “Share” of the damage, and the Mastermind himself takes 2 “Shares”. This is in addition to any damage that the Henchmen themselves might incur from Area attacks.

Example: If a Mastermind has 3 Henchmen set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with a 100 point attack, each Henchman will take 20 points of damage, and he himself will take 40 points. (total of 100 points of damage).

Example 2: If a Mastermind has 3 Henchmen set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with an Area Effect attack for 10 points of damage, then each Henchman will take 2 points of damage, and he himself will take 4 points. Henchmen that were also in the Area of Effect will take an additional 10 points each.

What Does This Mean?
Bodyguard will work as long as a Henchman is in Defensive Follow. This means that they will follow you around and attack back when you or they are attacked. Issuing an order of “Attack my target” will take them out of bodyguard mode, as will issuing any other stance or order. You can set as many of your Henchmen to bodyguard that you want. As long as the Henchman is in Defensive Follow and within Supremacy range, he is in Bodyguard mode. Being stunned will not turn off bodyguard mode.

Sounds like a nice feature. Is this the way the system currently is, or is it coming in I7?

Awesome, so now we know what that "small buff" for Masterminds is!

So basicly what you are saying is, that if we don't do anything and just stand there, we will be protected. If we actually try and fight, we will be cut down, in pvp just as easy as we already are...

Come on devs, art guys, where is my Maid costume for my characters! 5 years now, its a simple request.

Great... Good for MM's...
BUT WHAT ARE DOMINATORS GETTING?

No, you can attack all day long, but if you send all of your minions off you will lose their ability to protect you. I think it will start being much more common for people to control their minions in a more granular fashion so you always keep a few around you for Bodyguard to work.

[/ QUOTE ]This doesn't sound good for Masterminds to me. I have all my ninja goto, and attack my target, otherwise they are all over the place attacking individual targets, or attacking at range, with their craptastic bows, and shuriken. So if using the attack my target command pulls them out of this defensive mode, its worthless.

Very nice. I was wondering what you Red Names ment when you said you "had something planned". I gotta say, this idea came out of left field, but i mean that in the purely "how unique can you get?" way.

Hrm. It sounds good so far. I'd like to see it in action first. I can definitely spare a minion lvl bot to stand around and keep me safe, and do defensive things.

Wait! Doom! How do I set one pet to defensive follow with a keybind! :-P

I'm sorry but you clearly violated the exclamation point rule. You clearly used less then 15, thus your statement becomes one of less importance. In order for anyone to take you seriuosly you must use 15, or more, exclamation points in a row.

Whatever... You can still Debuff the living bejezzus out of people in PvP and get 60% resists while doing it. ...right? I mean we're talking about "Heel" mode, right? ...what's so hard about having to wait until there's an opening before you just attack? Stalkers have to play that way 24/7 and they seem to be doing just great.

Doms however...

No, they need to be set to Defensive/Follow not Passive. Defensive means they retaliate when they (or you) are attacked. The idea is that if you're getting attacked, you can switch to Def/Follow and bring up your bodyguards who will not only take damage for you, but attack the foe that is damaging you.

In PvP you can use Bodyguard to avoid alpha strikes, which will cause your bodyguards to attack the player attacking you. You can also get the alpha yourself by choosing attack my target, then quickly switching back into Defensive mode to absorb the retaliation. Actually, I can think of a lot of ways to use this. Good job!

Makes perfect sense to me...after all, a true mastermind always kept at least 1 thug at his side and sent the rest to attack, I see minions being set to defend while the Lt's and Boss kick much rump!!
"you, you, kill 'em...you stay here in case they fail"

Do your henchmen's resists come into play at all?

Say in this example:
[ QUOTE ]
Example: If a Mastermind has 3 Henchmen set to Def/Fol, and he gets hit with a 100 point attack, each Henchman will take 20 points of damage, and he himself will take 40 points. (total of 100 points of damage).

[/ QUOTE ]

If the henchs had 10% resists to the damage, would they only take 18 points of damage, instead of 20?

Always remember, we were Heroes.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
what are dom's getting?

I see so many blapper/scrapper/stalker insta-deaths for MM's. This should help cushion those initial attacks quite a bit. Offensively, I'm sure some nice tricks will develop.

sounds like Masterminds are about to become a lot more Tankery to me.
could be fun.
I'll have to see how it works out though

No one said all of your henchmen have to be in Bodyguard mode at the same time. You get your choice of total offense, total defense, or a varying mix.

As a robot MM, this sounds like a good thing to me. I'll have to give it a whirl on Test to see how effective it is

Sounds like a much need hand in the MM's direction

There are 3 kinds of people in this world
The kind that makes things happen

The kind that watch things happen

And then there are those of us who keep asking "WTH just happened!"

Actually it's better than that. I imagine I'll become quite fond of pulling in Defensive mode. I attack an enemy, who then attacks me with my 75% Resists (even higher with the PPP shield ). My bots the retaliate against the foe that attacked me.

Remember it's Defensive mode NOT Passive. Your pets will still attack, but only in response to someone attacking you first.

So your effectivily multiplaying the total HP of the MM, and multiplaying the effectiveness of any aoe heals for that MM, i see this being little more then a small buff, i see great things now for a properly build MM in the right hands.

I, for one, am VERY happy about this. Now Protector Bots can actually PROTECT.

/thumbs up
