MMO Grinder has posted a nice article about CoH as well. It's fairly comprehensive and includes information on the fan efforts to save the game:

Quote:I only switched my font so that I could tell the difference between i and L in character names. And I figured that if there was an appropriate place to use Comic Sans, it would be a video game based on super-hero comics. I don't use it anywhere else.COMIC SAAAAANS!!! (/em curse you)
... But otherwise, gratz on your accomplishment.
Even still, I'm not sure why my screenshot would be so annoying... it's not like I'm using it on professional documents or anything. -
I will try to make it, but it is a little bit early for me. I might not be available until 8PM Pacific time.
Anyway, I can bring any of my characters. Here is what I have
Terminotaur - Willpower/Axe Tank
Red Tape - Earth/FF Controller (with leadership)
Koturo - Fire/Ice Tank
Aspect - Dark/Electric Defender (with leadership)
Roget the Saurus - Claws/Invuln Scrapper
Mutated Seabass - Warshade
Ir0nSt4r - Peacebringer
Timbermoon - Plant/Psi Dominator
All of them are level 53 and have tier-4 in all incarnate powers except for Hybrid. My character Red Tape has Hybrid slotted with Support. My other characters don't have it slotted at all yet since I've been really focusing on getting the badges for Red. -

Way to go Freedom!!
Here is a screenshot from our second successful run with the Really Hard Way badge. We also picked up Triple Threat.

At least, according to the new Maria Jenkins arc souvenir, she is. And Numina is evil now too, I guess. Here is the part of the souvenir that mentions this:
"There is a part to underground Praetoria that the Praetorian Infernal calls his own. Here he and Numina performed dangerous rituals on Positron, rituals you and his grand-daughter Ms. Liberty were too late to stop."
I assume that this is all a mistake and that what the devs intended was to have Numina help out in that mission against Diabolique instead of Ms. Liberty. Ms. Liberty only made sense when it was Statesman that had been captured. It would make far more sense in the arc to have people with a personal relationship with Positron come to his aid instead. -
oops. wrong forum. I'll move this thread to the general discussion forum where it should be.

Not sure which one of these is on which day, but I'll try to be available if I can be.
I'd be bringing Red Tape - Earth/FF controller.
I'll bring the following incarnate abilities:
Alpha - Nerve
Judgment - Pyronic
Interface - Degenerative
Destiny - Radial Rebirth
Lore - Carnies
Hybrid - Support -
Quick question - is this for Friday, June 15th or Wednesday, June 13th?
-
I will try to make it to this. The timing is a little bit early for me, but I think I can be there.
My badge hunting character is Red Tape - Earth/FF controller. I'll bring him unless he's managed to get the badge before Friday, in which case I could bring pretty much whatever you need. -
I did some testing this afternoon and found that Tyrant is not immune to -HP debuffs. In fact, they work quite well. I slotted Degenerative Interface and noticed that every time it proc'ed, it took off 1000 points from his total Health. Since we can't do -regen, I think this might be a good alternate. I'm not sure how stackable it is though.
Also, another observation. I noticed that Tyrant's total health before being debuffed was lower on a small league. It was 90k on a 13-man league, and about 130k on an 18-man league. I didn't check with a 24-man league.
Still, that might mean that a small efficient group could have a better chance at success. We may want to check and see at what number of enemies his HP goes up and size the league accordingly. -
Quote:Well that explains a lot. And it shows that our entire approach is wrong. There is no point in stacking regen debuffs on Tyrant if he is completely immune to them.According to your data, the player regen debuffs appear to have no effect on Tyrant.
The team I was on last night was mostly damage dealers. We had only 1 debuffer and tyrant went down in like 5 minutes. We got the lights, yes. But even still, I had expected it to be far harder than that.
So I suggest that we try somewhat the same thing. Build the team out of damage dealers and buffers. If we use debuffs, they should be things other than -regen. For example Degenerative interface is -HP. Assuming that Tyrant isn't immune to that one too, it might be a good place to start. Same with pets. Instead of focusing on ones with regen debuffs, we should go for damage and buffs. -
I guess I should have given more info about my character.
Red Tape is an Earth/FF controller. He has radial rebirth for destiny, diamagnetic interface, and longbow lore.
Also, I did some testing tonight regarding the current bug with the lights. I was on a 16-man team and we ran with no pets to make sure that player level shifts weren't being lost. The league also had only 1 debuffer. As a result, the first four AVs took a bit longer than normal to take down and I was worried about Tyrant. I guess I shouldn't have been though. He was defeated very quickly - in under 5 minutes.
I think that shows just how strong the additional levels can be when the buff is working properly. I know that won't make a difference for a Really Hard Way badge run, but for all the other badges the difference could be huge. -
I'd like to join too. I can make it on Friday, but not sure about Saturday.
I'd prefer to bring my Earth controller, Red Tape, since he is my badge hunting character. -
It turns out I may be wrong about the pet level shifts. I was on one trial earlier tonight and was paying close attention to both my own level and my pets levels. I noticed that they were always in sync. It was a small league though.
That makes me wonder - maybe the trial is shifting a certain number of objects, and not necessarily players. If, say, the 16 closest objects to Tyrant get the level shift, and if pets count for that, then it would explain why so many people are missing the expected level shifts. And it would also explain why I saw my pets shifted to a higher level than myself a couple nights ago.
Maybe the devs will comment on this soon, since from looking at other threads on the subject, it seems that the level shift, or lack thereof, is the current biggest problem with the trial. -
I noticed something during our attempt tonight. I started monitoring my level shift since it changes so often during the trial. I noticed that all pets and pseudo pets were getting whatever level shift I had at the time they were summoned. and they would keep it even after I lost it. In fact, the pets kept the level shift all the way until either they or I got killed.
So I think if we can get everyone on the team to monitor their own level shift and then save their pets until they get +9, that will make a huge difference.
Seriously - imagine a league full of +9 lore pets all going after tyrant at the same time. -
I will try to be there. I was a bit surprised by this trial going live this soon, so I am trying to quickly adjust my schedule to allow me to be online.
-
Just so you guys know, this trial works like the low level sewer trial. There are two different versions - one for heroes and one for villains. It is not co-op.
Also, the brotherly love badge isn't working, so don't be disappointed if you don't get it. -
Quote:Numina - crime fighting back in the 1960s at least before her death
According to in-game material, Numina isn't actually dead. She is an astral projection without a body to go back to. It's not the same thing. A couple of story arcs make a point of this, including Ghost Widow's.
Of course, then again, in a couple of recent interviews with the devs they called her a ghost. So its possible they are retconning her into one. Not sure on that. I tried to ask in the weekly ustream conference but didn't really get an answer. -

Max, a super-powered German Shepherd puppy of some renown, has finally escaped the watchful eye of his mother, and upon hearing that there are strange happenings in Dark Astoria, goes there to explore! As he left the Doghouse of Justice, Max made sure he had his cape/bath towel and trusty Bone of Liberty. Max had overheard the two-leggeds talking, and it sounded like there was something juicy buried in Dark Astoria, just waiting for a super dog to dig it up! When he arrived, Max ran around in circles, yapping with excitement at all of the wonderful new smells, especially... BONE! Following his nose, Max soon found two large bones, which a strange man was using to pound on a big drum. Max hoped the strange man would play some "toss", but the strange man only pounded the drums slowly. Suddenly Max heard a cry for help and dashed off to investigate. Max quickly pivoted on all fours and, after briefly making a pointing pose, dashed off in the direction of the call. Using his ridiculous puppy super speed, he arrived at the scene of the distress: the famed dog actress Paulina Poodle was being chased by a group of crazed-looking, glowing-chested muscle men wearing only their underpants and grass skirts on their feet! Max thought that those men probably wanted Paulina Poodle's autograph, but maybe she forgot to bring her pen and that was why she had to run away from them.

Ok, who used group invisibility this time? You made all the balls disappear again!

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I was never much of a comic book fan - at least not directly. My experience with comic-book characters was in the form of Saturday morning cartoons. Specifically, the Marvel ones from the early 90s. When I think of comic-book characters, it's those ones that come to mind.
So since this is a comic-book themed MMO, it makes sense to me to refer to the characters as "toons".
I do admit though that some of my real-life friends that don't play CoH, but do play other MMOs, have given me funny looks if I mention the word "toon" when referring to characters. -
In general, I love the incarnate trials. The Praetorian storyline fascinated me from the beginning and seeing it continued is great. But, there is one thing about the incarnate trials I really hate:
A single person can quickly cause the league to fail the trial - often instantly. For example:
TPN - use judgement on civilians = instant fail.
Lambda - dance in the cutscene then aggro Marauder and run out of the courtyard = instant fail
BAF - get 3 circles while the league is together. Every league member held = instant fail
UG - Judgement or Destiny powers on the Avatar while confused. Also, incandescence on the league during an ambush can cause Desdemona's death = instant fail
Keyes - Kill anti-matter before the end of the trial = instant fail. This usually only happens when people are trying for the Anti Anti-Matter badge.
MoM - Use knockback powers or aoe mez powers during phase 2 or phase 4. Not an instant fail, but a likely one
I run the incarnate trials almost every day because they are a nice source of the rewards that I want. However, I have seen each of these trials fail due to the actions of a single person. Sometimes it isn't intentional and the person really didn't know that their actions would do that. Still, its a big annoyance to everyone on the league feeling that they just wasted 30-60 minutes. I really wish that the trial design would prevent that kind of failure from happening. -
This highlights the problem that I kind of have in general with the incarnate trials. I love the story and the epic feel of them but a single clueless player can just about instantly fail most of them. And these are with regular runs, not even the badge runs.
For example, In the Lambda trial, all it takes is a single person dancing in the cutscene then running backward once Marauder spawns and he'll exit the zone and instant-fail the trial.
In the Underground trial, all it takes is a single confused person fighting the Avatar using Rebirth or Barrier and the avatar gets buffed to the point of being unbeatable. Or using confused judgement can cause a league wipe that many leagues don't recover from.
In Minds of Mayhem, a single person using uncontrolled pets, aoe knockback, or aoe mez powers in phase 2 or phase 4 can cause trial failure.
And so on. Each trial has something like this and I find it incredibly frustrating. What I'd like to see is the trials not necessarily be easier to complete, but at least be more difficult to fail.
