I agree that the story on the website is better, but really, these inconsistencies are getting old. We keep getting told about the Huge Story Bible, and yet it seems no one bothers to actually read it before doing anything.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, How DARE they! I can't believe it. I'm gonna start writing my "I quit" letter now. It's just too much.

Hey Venture, read some DC comics. If you can make any sense of them, nevermind, you can't. That's why they keep coming up with more Crisis storylines. Seems people make mistakes. Maybe revisions is a better word for comics, but whatever. Happens.

I read comics until, um, just before Zero Hour. I've only peeked at them since.

Professional work should be...wait for it...professional. Inconsistencies like this aren't supposed to happen, and when they do it is fair to criticise them.

It's especialy fair after the fault has sufficantly been pointed out and the red name say that a change is coming.

Calm down Venture. I'm sure that you're perfect and in all your time you've never made a single mistake. But the rest of us are humans.

Thank you! I'm sure no one meant to be a stickler, they just want to which is true.

Also... I have a few questions.

One (and this has kinda been mentioned already) the story suggests she is Kin/Energy, while the plaque at her statue's feet states she is Emp/Energy. Which is the case?

What is her origin? I've always assumed mutant and I'd like to be sure.

Aww c'mon

Faulty logic and incosistency are two of the conerstones of the comic universe. No to mention the fact that even in the real world you can read 5 history books and come away with 5 different versions of history.

While the article was well written, good work there. Consistancy would be appreciated. I can't forget Dauntless, Galaxy Girl's sidekick who died saving her, due to a funny incedient when I was showing the statue to a friend. There we were in Skyway standing on top the badge, with me giving the whole tour guide routine. Me: "This is Dauntless"...blah blah blah. My Friend: Rustier than I thought he would be.
Me: "What?" I turn to see that she is looking away from the statue and instead at the clockwork prince that is standing next to her. "No no. Shoo shoo, you pesky thing." /em begone. I know his statue is in Skyway, but not even a mention! He and Ms. Liberty deserve a little better I think. No need to sully Kelly's memory with mention of her connection to Crey either, thank you for that at least.

There are a few things not consistent with plaques and badges quoted below. Simple enough to fix one way or another. I like the story we have NOW, as opposed to what a plaque describes.

[ QUOTE ]
Kelly Graham never thought she was destined for greatness. That changed one night when she was walking home from her job in the Crey secretarial pool. She came upon an innocent woman being dragged into an alley by some masked men. Kelly called out for help, to no avail. As her fear and anger grew, she launched herself toward the alley. After a blur of flying, energy blasting, and healing light... Galaxy Girl was born.

[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Dauntless was Galaxy Girl's sidekick until he died in battle, defending his mentor with his last breath.

[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
This plaque commemorates the death of Galaxy Girl, who fell in battle with the Rikti. When it became obvious that the heroes would have to fall back, Galaxy Girl insisted that she be the last to retreat. Remaining on the front lines, she used her healing light to save the lives of many of her retreating comrades. Witnesses say that she used her last bit of strength to heal her friend Ms. Liberty, rather than to save herself.

[/ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

She doesn't have to be Empathy, Kinetics does have a 'healing light' that you can choose to use on others besides yourself. And that's assuming her healing isn't a Signature Power.

The plaque sure makes it sound like Empathy, but Transfusion is pretty glowy. Then again, it doesn't really fit with the rest of her story. Her death definitely sounds Absorb Pain related.

I would be very surprised if she's not a mutant. Nothing extraordinary ever happened to her earlier in life, so it's implied she was just a mutant with dormant powers. Not everyone has their powers from birth, after all.

Very rarely, if ever, do mutants manifest powers from birth. The "conventional wisdom" dictates manifestation at puberty or the powers remaining latent until a post-adolescent, high-stress situation.

My peg was always Mutation/Defender/Empathy/Energy Blast for Galaxy Girl.

My patheticaly humble opinion? Arctic read what didn't fit in the story and has stated he's adressing it. Sorry, but I'm commending him. That's more than some people have done in the past. Yes, commending. Admitting mistakes isn't the easiest thing to do. Ask the government.

Inconsistancies aside, not a issue to be honest as it is fixable. Artic I think your doing a great job. As for those who wonder do you read the "bible" before ya right. I honestly doubt they give you that chance. With Manticore I am sure a busy fellow you can't keep bothering him every time you write something up.

I found teh story to be yet another wonderful piece to enjoy. I look forward to the revised edition and dispite some complaints from some, I look forward to many more from you. Keep up the great work Arctic.

Pretty nice article....although, a little less on the origin of the name, and a bit more on each section of the zone (ala the Hollows article) would have worked for me too.

So, assuming that her age stays the same with the "adjustment", Galaxy Girl fought the Rikti at age 70! Wow!

The point about M1 and the Web of Arachnos is an interesting one. I hope that the background of the game isn't being changed so that no heroes existed before Statesman's "discovery". IMO, that'd be lame.

I think it's commendable that Arctic is fixing his mistakes once he sees 'em, but I think that these updates are coming out a little too fast.

I mean, I love having 'em out this quick (because I love the stories behind Paragon City alot), but a little more time in between them to do some thorough fact checking would be good.

Y'know, reading the story bible, scouring the badge and statue text, etc. etc. al.

Y'know, reading the story bible,

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if that would have helped, since Galaxy City wasn't meant to be in the game.

In early beta, they only had Atlas, but then added Galaxy City to ease congestion. Which is why BAB is there instead of King's Row (his home zone).

Which might mean they didn't have any "bible" info for Galaxy City to work with. Which, in a way, is a good thing, if true, since it allows Arctic some leeway in writing about the zone.

Still, there were the badges/plaques, so your point is valid.

Absorb Pain is certainly reasonable. But if both GG and ML were fighting but not right next to each other GG could have been faced with this situation: Do I Transfuse off of the Rikti that I am in hand to hand with or do I Transfuse off of the Rikti way over there that ML is in hand to hand with? Oh, she is about to die, screw it."

By Transfusing to save her friend she may have left herself wide open for a killing blow. I know my Kin regularly goes red/green/orange/green/red/green/yellow/green, etc so skipping a Transfuse to save someone on the other side of the room could easily get you killed.

I just read the plaque in Eden last week about Galaxy Girl staying behind to hold off the Rikti and saving her best friend Ms. Liberty.

This is a good story, too, though.

And I could have sworn M-1 is referenced in-game as being a WWI hero, not WWII, but I could be mistaken. anyone else remember?

[/ QUOTE ]

History geek chiming in here...

Hopefully M-1's name comes from WWII because the earliest reference I can find for M-1 that a hero would be named after is the M-1 Garand rifle which entered service in 1936, after WWI. If it's in reference to the tank, then we jump to the 1980s.

Now I have to make a trip to Galaxy tonight and look at the plaque.

Inconsistencies aside...I really enjoyed the right up. I've always started my heroes in Galaxy...just like it better than Atlas, and I've always enjoyed seeing the statue of Galaxy Girl. It's my two-year olds favorite thing in the game. He always wants to see the statue whenever I'm online and he's around.

Anyway nice write up. Hope you don't have change much, cause the ending was kinda touching.

That was a Great story. Good job Arctic I hope to see many more write ups like that.

That was a great background to the zone. Thanks for filling in the holes. very well written.

Exactly. Someone makes a mistake, they own up to it, they work on making it right, people should just leave them alone. We're not talking heart surgery here. Continuing to hound someone after an honest mistake has been made and spoken up about is rude.
