Wow! How many couples are in this game?
I've been playing CoH with my boyfriend since beta, and he's the one who got me interested in the game in the first place.
So far, we've only created one duo that is themed, and that was for CoV, where we made a pirate couple back from the dead to raid and pillage for treasure once again.
Other than that, we generally just create our own individual characters whose powers compliment each other, like when I made my Kin/Rad defender and he made an MA/Inv scrapper. We just flew through levels at crazy speed then. Fun times.
My boyfriend got me into COH. We used to play together a lot, then RooGirl kind of made her mad break for 50, and now we have a lowbie couple that we play when we get a chance (BarkBoy and PurrGirl in my sig). He's a videogame programmer so it would have been the height of futility for me to get worked up about the time he spends playing games.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em...and then outlevel 'em.

My girlfriend and I both play also. Sometimes teamed with characters made for each other sometimes separately.
Any female character I've ever gamed with has usually turned out to be a man or young female teen. I have played online games since the very first, Meridian 59! How in the world do you people get so luck as to meet someone nice in an online game such as this? Incredible odds...

Only women I meet in RL usually tend to be game haters or club hoppers. I'm a peaceful, quiet guy that likes to stay at home and relax!!
Myself and a certain heroine met in game and are now together in real life
Our marraige was literally saved by CoH. It has been a great communication tool, where we spend time together daily, no matter what. We communicate while playing, and it has deepened our already strong friendship with one another. If you see Hell's Love (me) and/or Heaven's Hate (her) on Triumph, give us a shout.
Just to clarify:

My girlfriend & I play the game, but usually we don't get to play at the same time because I'm in work or she's at university. But yeah, we've teamed together a few times and it makes for interesting conversation.

Ravenbane and I have been a RL bf/gf for years, and more or less all of our characters are linked in some way, be they married, college or highschool sweethearts, hero/sidekick, , etc. That goes for heroes and villains.

Almost 5 years of official couplehood! Mind you, we were shamelessly flirting for a few months before we were going out.
Our duos (Him/Me):
Darkfang (DM/Regen) and Ravenbane (DM/SR) = Vampire Soulmates (Long story, just take our word for it)
Captain Galacto (Invuln/EM) and Galacto Girl (EB/EM) = Classic Hero/Teenage Sidekick Duo
Battletide (Storm/Rad) and Psycharisma (Kin/Psy) = Mutant College Sweethearts
Thugbuster (Ice/Ice Blaster) and Tephra Fire (Fire/Stone) = Yeah... Those are the Booty Calls *Head Jerk* Giggity giggity giggity!
Rust-Bucket (FF/Sonic) and Cy-ren (MA/Regen) = Cybernetically Enhanced Tech Whiz (Cy-ren) and her Support Bot with Sarcasm AI (Rusty)
That's it for the heroes... we've got a few villain duos but they're still being worked on.
Well, inspired by a couple in our very small SG, and several friends that play with their significant others, my wife (the REAL Kay) has finally joined me online with CoV!! Now if only I could get her out of my chair!! I really need to get her new box built.....

Me and my wife play as well as my 13 year old son (with supervision and heavy time constraints, mostly just makes alot of characters)...
My Brother, brother in-law and sister in-law play.
My father and mother inlaw play.
If i could just get my own dad out of CS:S and Doom. :P
My wife and I have been playing for about a year now. I played for less than a month before I talked her into trying the character creator. About 3 days later, she had her own account.
We now have two computers and two CoH/CoV accounts, but since we only have dialup internet service available to us, we can only play one at a time. As much fun as it is to have her as part of my gaming community, sharing sometimes really sucks.
In case you're wondering, her hero main is Bodicea on Victory. She hasn't really settled into a villain yet on Protector. And yes, everyone likes her better than they like me.
My wife and I registered a week apart. We're still playing, but not as a "couple".
We never did team exclusively, though we have been part of larger "themed" groups - such as the Defenders of the Apocolypse which was an all Defender group based on angels reincarnated as Super Heroes. Matter of fact, we've done a whole bunch of these - and are part of one now on the CoV side. We even did our own themed group where I had the Father and Mother characters and she and a few of our friends played the "Kids".
Our two mains do tend to hang out occasionally... but not as a couple.

My wife and I play. We have characters that we play as couples, like Tinkerbella and Lostboy, but I also have a slew of characters that I play solo, since I tend to play more than her.
My wife and I have played together since about 2 days after I got CoH in May 2004. The costumes and online interaction were too much for her to resist. Her FF/Dark Defender hit 50 before any of my characters did.
Now that CoV is out, I'm not too sure how I feel about her Dominating someone else....
Ideally, the tank will die precisely as everyone else starts fighting, allowing aggro to be spread evenly among the blaster. -seebs, "How to Suck at CoH/CoV" Guide
My wife and I have some duos with coordinated costumes, names, and power themes.
Then we have toons that we run solo and never group, for whatever reason.
Then we have toons that we team out of convenience -- not designed as a duo, but we end up playing them together for most of the time.
Wife and I met playing LARP ... when I got CoH she laughed at me for an even bigger geek for a month -- until I made her sit down at the costume creator. Now she's outstripped my primary in security levels and she's the heart and soul of our SG.
Agent Parker -- Mind/FF Snark Lord
Captain Hadron -- Will/TW Immovable Object
Destroyer-X -- Elec/EA SMASH
Ms Apprehension -- Ill/Rad Chaos Controller

My fiance and I actually met while playing SWG. We're now both playing COH/COV quite happily. It's nice to have something that we both enjoy doing. Course, she does seem to take a lot longer making sure her character looks just right...
My husband and I play CoH/CoV together, and sometimes we just happen accross some concepts that work well, and with our roster of characters, we often just decide if one of plays a defender, then the other will play a scrapper or tank.. or something.
It's nice not to have to hunt for teams when we don't feel like it. It's also a nice way of paying each other attention while playing a game we both enjoy. And nothing beats sitting side by side for being able to use tactics properly.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that statement is untrue, at least if by this you're including teaming in COH. Many, many female toons are neither men or jailbait and I'm sure you've teamed with some that you don't know of, unless you do "A/S/L" to every teammate you've had, and you don't seem the type.
I am sorry that the ones you end up learning more about have all turned out to be not what you're looking for. Maybe there's a call for a matchmaking SG where people's toons should represent themselves as closely as possible in terms of age, gender, clothes, etc. and they can have social events...like RP except you have to play yourself.

It's incredible odds to find anyone whom you love and who loves you, I'd say! But I should also say that I would never, ever have considered looking for a romantic partner within an online game. Not to say anything against the people who hooked up that way! More power to ya. I think I've just always found the EQ marriages and so forth to be very weird, so I developed a little prejudice that way. And I don't tend to reveal much about myself to even my online friends whom I trust the most, so I don't think I'd ever have been "on the market" in COH.
And for the record, my ex-boyfriend was a peaceful, quiet guy who liked to stay at home, but he was also a competitive fencer and that's how we met. Maybe there's a community game night thing in your area...?
The wife and I play together too. Got two accounts, themed pair of characters with matching backgrounds. It's pretty cool.

I like that nick name.
Too many alts and not enough time.
My fiance and I play together. We have characters that share background stories (Kid Scalpel and Kid Morphine are two), which we only play together.
We met through another game, and knew each other for 3 years before we actually chatted seriously. We had socialism and anime in common, so it wasn't long before she moved to the East Coast to be with me. Eventually we decided we'd take a little tour of the US and we ended up living on the West Coast.
Guys, if you don't have a gamer grrl, get one ffs. And force them to read a comic, gamer grrls are like sponges just ready to absorb other nerdery.
My wife and I have been playing together since CoH beta. Its our first MMO and we're still hooked. Some of our characters have joint backstories (at least in our minds) and a few we only play together.

Jenn and I have played together since closed beta, heck during the pre-order beta invite days I had myself, my wife, my sister and her hubby, and two friends I rent rooms to all playing at my house so we could group. Boy the power bill that fateful winter/spring was high. :-)
I agree though as far as the game is more enjoyable when your spouse plays. I played UO for 5 years and Jenn did not and it did cause static. :-) We did play Earth and Beyond together and she really enjoyed that. We even went to a fan gathering together and she helped me grill the devs on game issues. :-)
I appreciate the fact that Paragon City has enough content to interest me and entice Jenn to play as well.
Now the question is does States play with a Stateswoman or Mrs. Liberty?
