Wow! How many couples are in this game?
My wife and I play together as well. We have a few pairs that we team up with each other and then we each have characters that we solo with. My schedule flip flops every week (I work night shift, 7 days on, 7 days off) so we only get to play together every other week. In fact, I only get to play with anyone I know every other week. Sigh. The price I pay for having a week off at a time.
Never met any couples in game though. My experience is that they usually don't advertise it (except for the couples only SGs out there). I know the old lady and I don't ever mention that we're married, although we do say snarky things to each other. Most people just assume we're close friends though.
alot of couples...... my b/f got me hooked when we 1st started dating, and the other day i purposed in villins.... YES the girl asked....

There are 248 couples in this game.

And I'm one of them.
We're two of them?
One is us.
Dangit.

My husband and I play but our characters don't have backstories that go together. We do sometimes make characters that compliment each other (defender & scrapper). Plus I always have someone to remind me how to get somewhere or to teleport me to the mission when I'm lost in the Gulch in the Hollows.
We've played quite a few MMO's together but I think this is the game where we have the most fun.

Yes, and now I am forced to take teleport on every character I make or else she gets lost or I get to constantly hear "When are you going to take teleport?!"
It is nice to always have someone to group with and not have to worry about bad groups....well....maybe not have to worry, but at least you know them well.
My wife and I also play CoH/V together and we have characters specifically designed to team with. e.g. Tower of London and Picadilly Girl, Mechanarchist and Catastrophy, Caestus Pax and Lady Flashfire are all on Freedom. Not only that but we're both avid table-top role-players as well.
All this and she hadn't even seen all the Star Wars movies when we first met. Of course, she's now been turned to the Darkside.

I'm having a Tom Lehrer kind of week. I have no idea why.

Grrrf.
My wife liked the costume generator... but she's not into the gameplay.
It'd be cool if she was... but...

Same here...she has some heroes on Triumph but never got any past level 6.
But hey, we both have our seperate hobbies (CoH/CoV for me, jewelry making for her) and our together hobbies (taking care of animals and anime).
It works out quite well.
Master James and i are married and play together. We actually like to play duos when we can.
My wife and I usually play together. While we don't specifically build characters to match in concept or background, we do tend to play as a pair. It's very nice always having at least one group member on hand.

I've noticed that CoH seems to have a high couples count compared to other games we've played. It also seems to have a larger female player base than other MMOs I've played. At the risk of sounding sexist, for women new to gaming I think CoH is a very user friendly introduction. The learning curve is quite gentle, the game is very forgiving in the early levels and it's quite easy to team with your SO even if there are several levels between the two of you.

Count two more of us in the mix... and my brother and his fiancee play as well.
I'd agree with EmainMacha. I think that CoH is a great introduction to gaming for non-gamers, or at least non-hardcore-rpg-players. EVERYONE loves the costume creator, the early levels are a great way to teach you the game, and the game can be as easy or as complex as you want it to be (ok, not as complex as some want it to be... I guess I mean "if you're into numbers you can focus on those, if you're just into an hour's diversion you can get that too").
It's been a great activity for my wife I. The couple that games together... uh...
My husband and I play. Most of our characters are now made to work together ... or at least match in costume. In our supergroup and affiliates there are at least 4 other couples, too.
Husband and I play together all the time, we're both hardcore about our gaming. Don't really create characters that "go together", we usually just pick whatever interests us. Usually, it almost always works out well.
I used to play with my boyfriend all the time, until I joined forces with the Comic geeks and he wanted nothing to do with us. Now I just laugh at him when he has a hard time finding a team :evil grin:
Well I thought I posted to this yesterday, guess not!
My husband and I both play this and a few other MMOs when we can. This is probably the best game out of the rest for couples and duo play. My main is a male and his is a female. Not sure how that worked out, but I think it's because I'd much rather look at a man's behind running on my screen than a girl's, and vice-versa for him. =^.^=
Wife and I play together all the time. From EQ1 and 2 to CoH and CoV. We also have an SG/VG with another couple and several friends. Good stuff...
There might even be a few red names who play CoV/CoH with thier significant others...my husband and I play all the time!
SO and I play together often.
I have it great, my wife, my three kids, my brother, my mother, and my father all play. We make a great 8 person team on the weekends.
My wife plays, and has played as long as I have, which goes back to the 1st wave of beta invitees for CoH. So potentially, outside of people at Cryptic/NCSoft, we're the couple who's been playing the longest.
My wife and I play, and our SG had 4 other couples that play too. We are down to 3 now. We have a few other members that their other halfs play too, but may not be in our SG. So there are a lot I would say.

So I'm curious. Do you rl couples make in-game couples like we do? And I don't necessarily mean romantic couples, but characters with joint backstories and themes that go together.

My girlfriend and I play together whenever we can. She lives 20 minutes away but lives on campus (she's a teacher). When she needs to stay on campus and when I have to wake up early next morning for work we play together. Really adds a lot to the relationship! COV + Teamspeak = Good Quality time.
Oh and about a back story... our COV villains are both ex-COH heroes.. We played our COH heroes apart (my guy was 50 so her char always played with my alts).
Murph, Mutant, Assault Rifle/Thermal Corruptor.
Murph is, or was a Mutant that was given level 50 security clearance shortly after the peregrine island portals went active. His story began with him being brought from his dimension (ours) to Paragon City via an unknown source. Once he arrived, he began to notice he could alter heat and perform amazing feats such as shooting fireballs out of his hands, and making structures of ice! He could even ride thermal waves allowing him feats of super speed and even flight! He continued to fight the forces of evil and with all of his gifts of both blasting and controlling he was honored as one of the most unique blasters Paragon City had ever seen.
That all changed October 29, 2005.
For months now Murph felt like he was changing. His powers were sometimes stronger, and other times weaker than what he had come accustomed too. During the month of October 2005, those changes began to become radical. Suddenly, by shooting flames at his enemies he actually healed them instead of harming them! Murphs ice formations thawed seconds after creating them. Overall he was more of a defender rather than a blaster, but even still he couldnt even blast as well as a defender anymore.
Useless
just useless his fellow heroes would say, you have level 50 clearance to blast. You dont know the first thing about defending. You cant even harm enemies without using your fists, and you arent superhuman in strength.
With this Murph was stripped of his level 50 status, and likewise became very mad, and vengeful against the hero community. When Murph was in a state of sulk, and rage, he was approached by a woman, curvy with short braided hair, with a skin tight leather outfit. She began abruptly with...
You Murph? You should see this letter. Murph looked and read it aloud.

Lokia,
D.A.R.K.S.T.A.R. would like to extend an offer. We need someone with your stealth and talents with a sword. We seek someone to do our dirty work when we dont want to make a lot of noise. You do not have to accept, but if you do decide to be a part of the next legacy of villains, youll see your first assignment below.
MURPH Former Level 50 Blaster. Youll find him especially interesting. He, like you, had fire blasting powers and like you those have changed into other talents. He does not possess the hiding or regenerative qualities you possess but can use thermal radiation to heal and defend others. This job is not an assassination job, but rather we also want him to join D.A.R.K.S.T.A.R. as well. You are perfect for this job, even if you don't know why yet. When you find him give him the briefcase attached to this letter, but not before asking him to remove his mask.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remove my mask? Murph said, Lady Im from another dimension, or so the mystics of Paragon tell me, neither you nor anyone else would recognize me, I just wore this getup to protect my face from my own powers. With that Murph removed his mask. Lokia began to cry, ran up to Murph and hugged him.
Keith!??! Lokia said as she ripped off her own mask. Revealing a familiar face
Laura?! But how the heck? ... of Murphs, or Keiths girlfriend from his home dimension.
Dont worry about that now. If these D.A.R.K.S.T.A.R. people know we have a connection to one another, maybe they know how we can get home! They are villainous for sure, but Id do anything to just get home! Maybe the answer is in this case? With that she handed over the briefcase mentioned in the letter.
With a few clicks the case swung open to reveal an assault rifle, with solar panel handgrips. The letter attached explained when thermal energy is applied to the gun it will become active. It continued to say no one should be able to use this rifle unless they can replicate Murphs thermal radiation signature.
Well, I suppose if we want to get back to our New England, we should probably find out who these guys are. We may just have to be bad to find our way home, because being good didn't work for me. Murph started, shall we?
We shall, but not before getting caught up, I know a great place in Galaxy City where we can get some Thai.

My fiancee and I play togehter too. Lots of fun.
My wife and I are CoH addicts. We've played many mmo's in the past. We are both major gamers..
Most of the people in our SG are also couples. CoH is the biggest couple game i've ever played...I'm constantly meeting new couples in PUGS even!

About half the people I play with play with their snuggle bunny or smoochie pooh. The people that are involved with someone who doesn't game don't tend to get much game time in.

I read your post and told my husband that Snuggle Bunny and Smoochie Pooh would be awesome villain names. We could run around together in pastel pink and blue costumes with hearts and other cutsie symbols on our chests.
Of course, they'd have to be villains, as the evil behind Snuggle Bunny and Smoochie Pooh is just unmistakable.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be really cool. The true evilness in these names is vastly underestimated by many. It sounds like it could be fun too.
