New COH comic preview 10 pages
I think it's a decent idea. At the least, it's the only one that will make the comic actually have, you know, drama. Of course, it isn't exactly uber-original or anything - I can think of more than a couple threads on the RP boards that have similar premise.
I just liked the H2G2 allusion... "Life, the Universe, and City of Heroes"
Cynics of the world, unite!
Taking Care of the Multiverse
I think we're all missing the bigger picture here. What if COV goes live like this? Suddenly, every hero's powers go gray except for sprint and brawl...Imagine the knott in everyone's guts when Spider/Arachnos villains start attacking as well as player villains (on the Spider/Arachnos side at least) filter into what zones they can to pvp the now powerless heroes. Even if it was debt free deaths for the duration, tell me you wouldn't plotz when all powers just simply cut off.

Since when is it a decent idea to kill off a whole town just because someone dropped a spoon?

Top Corner. Right hand side. The Shocker, floating above the gunners, firing a blue bolt. After The Spell has gone off.

I'm still inclined to think its a mistake on the part of the artist rather than the writer. Every other gang member we see is using either a gun or a sledge hammer. And we're explicitly told that when the spell goes off it messes with the Clockworks as well as the heroes which would make me seriously question why it wouldn't do anything to the Outcasts. I'm really inclined to think that the script called for a group of Hellions to be drawn in but it didn't get explicit and the artist drew Outcasts instead. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened in a comic book.
I do have to wonder about the guy with the sledge on this page since he appears to be flying. Then again I also wonder why Synapse isn't in a running posture in the next panel.

It's notable that the Spell doesn't seem to hit everyone equally- and it does seem to take some time to drain Statesman. Sure did a good job of detoggling most of his defenses from the wallop those guns laid in on his noggin. :P

Don't forget losing most of your hit points. I'm sure States would have enough hp that even without defenses to take a few bullets from obviously lower level bad guys.

Now THAT would be scary. Imagine an Archvillain whose attacks make your powers go haywire at random.
*BZAK*
Me: "Team,My ranged attacks just shut down. Closing to melee range..."
Team: "YOU'RE THE BLASTER!"
Me: "Well, right now I have more defenses than the Tank. He just got cut off from everything in Invulnerability and the Scrapper can't regen. :P"

Heh...my first thought on that panel was "Hah, the tank gets a taste of what it's like to be a Blaster...Who's squishie now?"
I don't think I like the direction this comic is going. What are the rest of the comics going to do, now? They're just going to leave the spell up, and the whole series is going to be about normal joes who happen to wander around in their underwear? Or the spell goes down, and we go back to happy-go-lucky villain bashing?
This "everything goes to hell" idea might be OK for a single arc, but the blurb seems to suggest that the writer doesn't think the comic is worth making unless he can kill people off at the drop of a hat, so I'm not hopeful here.
/E DROOLS....
Holy s#!t...... That was awesome. The disconnecting message was perfect....
I for one am going to love the new take on the book.
Grand slam guys....
Good art, decent story, but a bit dark. In that respect I preferred the Blue King comic - it challenged the heroes without having a bunch of people dying in every issue. I hope issue #1 of the new comic isn't going to be the standard they're striving for.
To tell you the truth, dark is better, I think I'm gonna love this new comic
Are you KIDDING me!? What do you think being a hero is!? Do you think being a Superhero is like walking through a field of dandelions?! Being a hero has its ups and downs. It's a live by the sword die by the sword kind of life. I'm telling you, it is a GREAT storyline that is addicting because instead of wondering, "Who is going to get defeated this issue" you wonder, "I wonder what hero will be leaving for good this issue." They thought of a very addictive story line with I give them a good round of applause for!
My first thought was really 'Oh My God! Recluse found the nerfbat and hit the entire server with it HARD!'
I mean really, we told Statesman about the dangers of just leaving that thing laying around all the time but did he listen? NooOOoOooo He was too busy stomping innocent clockwork into oblivion.
The writing is phenomenal... the plot... I'm not sure, I'll have to see where they take this but it seems awfully climactic for the first 10 pages. Not sure where they can go from here but I am durned tootin going to be looking forward to it.

Which you know from personal experience, I take it?
Last I checked, superheroes, in general, are fictional characters. If the good guys win and the bad guys lose, it's because the writer wants it that way. If the good guys die in spades, that's also because the writer wanted it that way. There are no real superpowered heroes who are going to stand up and say "No, that's not the way it goes."

Why is it a more attractive comic just because main characters can die?
Very pleased with this. A little editing is needed but, as mentioned, that's on the way. Good stuff, I'm actually interested. This is a comic I'd tell my friends they should read.
Another odd thing, heroes and clocks get screwed up, but the Outcasts powers still work just fine?
I hope(and am betting) there's more to the comic because so far "Heroes lose their powers, start running around like headless chickens, then get slaughtered" registers as a "meh" with me.
So who do I complain to about not having recieved the comic in months?
I seriously doubt that the teleporters and powers will be shut off for more than the first arc. It wouldn't be the game we play then, would it?
Heck of a way to kick off a reboot of the comic, though. And I think it'll provide an opportunity to address the subject of real heroes - people who act heroically with no super powers or extra lives.

If I want a slavish interpretation of the game, I'll just play the damn thing.

A painfully obvious question. Drama. There's no drama if there's no risk, but put the risk at it's height and it makes the heroes who continue to fight a LOT more than just some guys with powers.

Guns seemed to still work, yeah.
And it seemed Naturals (and maybe Mutants) were the only ones who kept their powers while Science, Magic and Tech had to deal with rapidly dwindling powers. Hence Manticore being the 'big hero' because he's just an Archer.
Great read, superbly written. Remember the craptacular writing of The original comic when it fist came out?
Dawnslayer on Virtue.
Guns? I was pointing out that they could still use their powers. You know, manipulating the elements and all that.
Huh, and here I was, assuming for no discernable reason that Manticore was a Spine scrapper... Well, it sort of makes sense, right? Shooting poisonous quills at things? I guess the bow is a pretty good comparison, though.
Nice comic, all around; it seems to be technically better than the old one, though I gradually came to like the general "silliness" of the plot. Here's hoping it'll turn out well.

Remember that this is just the first issue. Remember how utterly craptastic the writing was when our current comic started out? This one, too, is just starting out - and already looks like Kingdom Come in comparison.

when will we the customers be getting the new comic.
LOVED IT !
Served Cold: 50 Ice/Storm/Ice
....now how to get my mug in that book....

Greetings all,
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that the text is not final in the preview.
The Hellions/Outcasts error and the repeated text boxes will be corrected before the final release.
Cheers,
Manticore

W00t. Response from the man himself.
I have a couple questions though, are you a mammal? do you fight all the time? Have you ever flipped out and killed people?
Because if you have, I would like to be the first to headbutt you and then we both scream.

Just don't drop a spoon around him. He may kill your whole town.
