On the Care and Feeding of Your Scrapper (V2.0)
Exceptional post!
I have played most ATs, but Scrappers and Brutes are my AT's of choice. I started durring beta with a Blaster (rerolled for live) who STILL hasn't made 50, but I have 2 Scrappers who have made the trip and a Brute who is almost there.
Of my 2 L50 Scrappers one (DM/Regen/dark) is Wild (grudgeingly Feral at times), the other(Claws/Regen) is Domesticated (teammates may argue this point... I <3 Scrapperlock! and firmly believe minions die on accident while I am killing off Boss-types), and the Brute (Energy/Energy) is Wild with Domesticated tendiencies, I can & do solo almost anything, but yah gotta <3 the spawn sizes you can only get with a team (and the continously full Fury you can only get with large ferquent spawns)
Now if you'll excuse me I see a group of +4 Dev Earth...
MOSTEST AWESOMEST POST EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!
hah, yeah deep down I have ALWAYS been a Savage Scrapper and never really truly found my calling until CoH (I tried "Tank" at first, pffsht!, "Tank" my [censored])
unfortunately, due to the Great Regen Nerf(S) of Issue 1-8, I have been forced to become a Feral Scrapper on occasion, but it boils my blood when I think of the good old days, when ONE HERO COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE (and back when Archvillains didn't REQUIRE a full freaking team to take down, I mean [censored], what the hell kinda sense does that make anyways? why are all the AV types SO freaking powerful? leave that [censored] for GMs I say, a hero SHOULD be able to take out an AV solo, but I never said it should be easy)
but regardless, yeah I invited 2 empaths and a BS/Regen to help me take down the Envoy of Shadows, so after being double Fort'd and HA/RA, we proceed to go to town, and when the smoke clears, I'm like "how the hell did you die?!?" (to the BS/Regen), as I was the only one standing, apparently they all got whupped quick and I finished off the last half of the Envoy by myself, double Fortitude turned me into a freaking MONSTER!
now if only I could get that as a temp power (or AM)
(bloodthirsty grin)

Raises hand,
Kruth'T is my wild blender. Personally I don't mind teaming, but I don't activly seek them out. Mostly 'cause they keep telling me I'm not a tank.... Of course not. My tank isn't as good at dealing with mobs.
Besides the best defense is offense...
Raises Bloody *Broadsword* Rabid Feral BS/SR , only house trained when teaming with a Kin and a Emp ( loves combo of SB and RA = Kill more without slowing down-- and ocasional Heals or rez) but 30 lvls of solo only first 7 were team. so hard to find a teammate that wont get in front of my teeth and sword. guess foaming at the mouth scares them.
and SR has toggle? what a crazy notion i didnt know those were supposed to be on ( only on in PvP )
oh and GRATZ to the OP great job love it , now excuse me i see a few COT's and i'm hungry.

Two years old and this is still one of the best posts about scrappers. Every AT should read it.
Raven Wolf Lvl 50 Wild Scrapper
*Feral Scrapper here, with slight tendancies of the other types.
Also, Shiny objects are a scrapper's friend, especially if it's right underneath the AV.
*raises hand* I'm what I like to call the End-of-Days Scrapper. My claws/regen is like the pull of evil when I play my two tanks, or my mind controller. Those three are just too slow, leaving me to want to bring about the deaths of many villians by plunging Zuvaii's Bone Claws into their chest.
I groan having to tank and actually attack too much, I then switch over to my scrapper and often hit dull pain and reconstruction with literally only a hit or two to spare... I haven't failed on timing yet.
When I encounter blasters, I tend to think they'll leave my targets alone. Oh man, am I always proven wrong, especially by many energy blasters/blappers! At times I want a mob to confuse me so I can turn around and kill that blaster just so they can see I do not need the help of some wimp who hurls knockbacks and makes me chase down the mob or they cause even more agro from both mobs and myself.
What I hate most though are Ice/Dev blasters who think they can control with their now-nerfed hold, caltrops, and all. I hate them even more when on an AV Mish they see my corpse that happened as a result of not knowing there were three groups of mobs instead of one and the blaster does the /weep emote over my body and then throws caltrops and some freezing rain-esque power over my corpse.
I had honestly hoped that he would be confused and some bug would cause him to register as an enemy so I could obliterate him.
Oh, I'm civilized when I have to be, but sometimes that bloodthirsty scrapper just roars for action and death!

Never got around to editing this post, but I teamed with the very same blaster only an hour after the previous post, give or take. Turns out there wasn't a Tank, problem numer one. Problem number two was that the AV dropped down a hole (ruined office building map) where there were two extra mob spawns.
No tankers for holding agro and three spawns total? Bad for blasters, scrappers, and everyone in general. I did apologize to him since he was going for concept and not ub3r-l33t XP build.

/raised hand. I would probably be a Wild Scrapper, then.

I am a feral, whether I play scrappers or any other AT. This does get me some wierd looks when my controllers jump in and start flailing at motionless bad guys, but I enjoy myself.
I tend to think of my scrappers as very animalistic, kind of like wolverines with ADHD. I can team with you, but if you wait too long I WILL find something to do. Results often vary as to whether you like what I choose or not.
As for other ATs, I've grown to not mind them so much anymore. Blasters, if I was taking them down and they had only a sliver left anyway they were not worthy of my attention and I needed to move on. Tanks, keep my defenders and controlers safe. Defenders, make me kill faster, whats not to love. Controllers, make it so I don't have to chase everything down. Save on me being annoyed. Khelds vary depending on type and form.
But I do admit this is a great post, see my sig for how great I thought it was.

A. If a target is nearly terminated and it would be a waste of both time and endurance to finish the target, it is permissible to finish the target of a scrapper. In many cases, this tendency will around the scrappers paternal or maternal nature; it is not uncommon for scrappers to come to an informal agreement, sometimes unspoken agreement, with a defender for the purposes of terminating nearly-defeated targets. The defender feels that he is contributing to the team, while the scrapper spends more time taking care of the important targets.

Great Post...very well written.
On my blaster and defender toons...I like to play a game called 'make the scrapper change targets'. It's where a scrapper has a target down to a sliver of health...I'll shoot the target and 'make' him find another full bag of HPs to pound on...it saves him endurance and an attack recharge cycle for the next victim. Heck...he'd prolly do more damage than the hurt target has...thus that extra damage goes nowhere at all.
My 50 MA/Reflexes is a Scrappus Domesticus.
I haven't made my Scrappus Devastatus yet...
Nice post. Haven't read most of the responses, so might be repeating, but I'd like to add something from the point of view of a feral scrapper, having a level 50 MA/SR and a currently playing a level 17 dual blade / willpower.
As a scrapper in a team I expect to be protected. In normal play I'm used to some down time, be that waiting for endurance to come back for my low level, or at a high level being vulnerable when Elude fades.
When playing in a group, the attack schedule is not set by me, and there are a lot more enemies. To remain an effective mincing machine, I tend to use a lot fewer defenses when in a group. I concentrate on finding bad guys and shredding them, and often neglect noting my health until I am dead. In most good teams, that doesn't happen, because there's good healing and buffing. When there's no healing, I can die repeated deaths, which just cramps my style.
Regarding sharing enemies with others, I don't mind at all. I simply move from target to target until it's defeated. If others are attacking it, it's defeated faster. I don't mind. What I dislike, and that's probably the reason blasters should keep away, is knockback. It's bad enough that I can knock back my own targets (as MA), but having someone else knock them back for me is doubly bad. Knockback is the main reason I might get out of healing range in the heat of battle.
Also, regarding the "cut and run", yes, I've once led a group of enemies directly over a team recuperating from multiple deaths. All I can say is, if as a scrapper I'm left standing without support (see my first point), and have to use Elude, I will certainly run away when it's about to expire, an I can't promise I'll look too carefully where I'm running. Sorry.
Oh, just admit it, scrappus domesticus LOVES mutate
domestic scrapper here. MA/REG
Oh yeah, Domestic Scrapper here!
BS/WP
and
DM/DA
and I like my teams very well, they give me more things to stab at!
This explains why, in the 4 or 5 times i've tried to team, that everybody is always yelling at me to "come back".
I"m a Wild Scrapper...
Hmmm
:/ meh-
great post... but meh- from me
I'm a housebroken domestic scrapper.
Love the post.
My main's a katana/regen, totally feral with some civil tendencies (nobody touches my squishies!).
My other scrapper's a DB/WP, definitely wild with the occasional duo. It's awesome.
Kyzock: Claws/Regen = Feral Scrapper
Obligo(Pinnacle style): Kat/Regen = Feral Scrapper
Remelt: Fire/Fire = Domestic Scrapper
Ichikatsu: MA/SR = Feral Scrapper
Obligo(Champ Version): BS/Regen = Feral/borderline domestic Scrapper
Obligo(Protector of Innocents): Dual Blade/Regen = Feral Scrapper
All my other scrappers haven't been defined yet (as in, still under lvl 10.)
5 outta 5 on the humor scale!
Need to bump this up by noting that after all these years (I'm posted on page one) I'm still a die hard Wild Scrapper with a server list full of them, no matter how many times I try the other ATs I'm just a scrapper at heart
I can't believe im one of the few Civilized Scrappers...

/raises hand wild scrapper with a pet def/troller, depending on her mood. I solo most of the time, only team when my gf wants to. Have no problem teaming, love squishies, but they keep telling me not to kil so fast, they want to at least hit something.
And about scrapper lock, its not cureable, and why would you want to any way?
If my gf's comp wasn't next to me I would never know when she needed help. I do let her target thru me, so she feels more usefull, but something strange has started to happen. She's asking to pad missions to make them more difficult with her main, an emp/dark(my main is bs/wp av killer build-8av's solo, no isperations, no deaths)
I was on a MA Freak slaughter mish today. 3 tanks, 1 ta/a defender, and 3 scrappers. The only 50s were me and the spines/invuln.
The tanks, especially the whiny level 40 invuln/ice, insisted that everyone sit there and finish off the the very last mob, then wait for a while and move on to the next.
This did not sit well with us 3 feral scrappers. As soon as the last mob hit the ground, I was bouncing into the next group. The spines/inv was already there (and rightly so, it's a waste of time for him to single target when there's AOE to be had!).
The 40 tank kept insisting that no one could take alphas but the tanks, so please wait...even though no one had died or gotten low at all. He said he just wanted the team to have a good time, and dying would ruin that. One other scrapper said that we were having a good time.
So the 40 kicked the other two scrappers. The 3 tanks promptly let the defender die, and then two of them (the 40 and a stone tanker with granite, lol!) died, leaving only me and the third tanker up. I then told the group to be careful, tankers don't take alphas well. I *still* didn't get kicked.
So the leader replaced the two scrappers, and we completed the mish and started another. I kept playing my normal non-stop playstyle (first 50 was a brute ), and he said "there go the scrappers again". I replied that he should just kick all the damage dealers so that the tankers without enhancements could let everyone else die and then die themselves.
This apparently didn't sit well with him. He told me that I had no damage (lol) and that I was just making a mess that the tankers had to clean up. Then he FINALLY kicked me.
Seriously though, how does a TA/A 'fender ever die with 3 tanks on the team? How does a granite tank EVER die? lol badtanks
(Also, I picked up the "Tank" exploration badge today, so in the future if there are disagreements, I can just show them that I'm a tank!)
A beautiful post. Truly funny, while informative.
*raises hand* Former feral, long since domesticated.
(( I still go feral soloing Safeguard missions.. man that can get your blood pumping, like the old days...))
