I would not send any abusive parting gift to TJ Kim. I fully recognize that it is extremely unlikely that he is directly responsible for the decision to close City of Heroes, and attempting to locate those who do have final responsibility would likely be an exercise in futility.
I would probably send him and the rest of the company a fairly nice note, thanking them for the support they had given Paragon, and thanking them for providing me with some very important lessons about how to properly operate a business.
I would then express regret that I am unable to continue supporting the company, and leave off wishing them the greatest success in future endeavours. -
I've found that there are just some communities that make it eventually necessary for me to leave in order to preserve my sanity.
Most of which are ones that don't prohibit discussions of religion and politics, for obvious reasons. Those are two topics I likely will never discuss outside of the context of anthropology. -
Trust me, that's only going to get more common the more in-depth your interactions with an on-line community get.

I know where you are going with this. ^_^

Quote:Do you not know your Niven? It wouldn't be much use as a weapon. It would be great for a propulsive mechanism, should negative stress-energy tensors be possible. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the same theory that says negative mass can't exist is the same theory that is known to be incomplete: general relativity. There are holes in it that remain to be filled. Who knows what will eventually be discovered?
"Any drive powerful enough to be interesting is powerful enough to be used as a weapon."
Also known as the Kzinti Lesson. -
Yes, as a function of having mass. The flaw of the Alcubierre is the requirement of negative mass to be able to use it as a practical method of transport. As a weapon, on the other hand...

Executive Committee
•Golden Girl
(and more names)
Well I guess that is may not be you, the Golden Girl over there at Titan, on the Executive Committee?
And according to Sergev, another executive committee member, this committee (quoted)
-Our Executive Committee is formed of those who've already taken lead roles in directing our conversations, building our design and world documents, and keeping us pointed forward.-
Sounds like a pretty important job there. -

I don't know what you are talking about. As a Scotsperson, I am contractually obligated to hate only the English.

Quote:You are aware that such was actually his point? If anything, those letters are likely to make efforts to save the Game all the much harder, the more I think about it.Woot! Now I have one less person to twist my posts.
Though unfortunately he won't see that German-Americans didn't have a fun time around WWI or WWII here in the States and will miss the fact that some people find Nazi comparisons, even in jest, just as offensive as he's making the kibun issue to be. -
Quote:Indeed. First hand knowledge is always superior. I am beginning to understand - Kibun has no overlap with the western perception of honour. You are the first person I have ever ignored on these forums. I may be a lot of things but racist is not one of them. You do not know what I have gone through as a Korean in the US nor my experience with racial hatred towards me and my family. You have no idea what kibun is or how important it is to Koreans. Whatever you have read (or likely not read) on the internet does not even remotely portray the scope of it in the Korean culture.

Again, to my knowledge the letter has not been sent - she had misgivings and wanted to wait until she was sure it was a good idea. I hope, based on what you've said, that it never is.

Quote:I would love to see where they got the missing knowledge regarding warping space-time...The Alcubierre drive has recently shown promise, which should sidestep the time problem. Some folks are actually wanting to do an experiment on it soon - who knows if it's viable? I accept current scientific wisdom on this subject, but I'm not prepared to make a statement that FTL is impossible or even impractical - only with current technology would I make such a statement.

Technically, the thread and events in question would be ethnocentric, not racist. A fair but significant difference. It seems to me that the lack of communication from NCSoft regarding the reasons for the closure of City of Heroes (not that they would be obligated to provide them anyway, if they were an American company), and the perhaps mistaken perception that such nonchalant silence is part of typical Korean business practices, is what largely contributes to the negative perception currently being discussed.
Such actions are problematic regardless of the nation a business places its origins.
Toast, unless you've been the victim of a hate crime yourself, don't imply that it is something a group of people are inclined to initiate. You have reasons not to like Titan anymore, and that is fair, but rather than attributing malice as a default, consider the possibility that they just don't have any better information on how to proceed.
You've said it yourself, you are both American and Korean. I am sure you can see all the ways the two cultures conflict. Why should you be upset when people do not know any better? -
Quote:I would certainly agree that there is too much hostility being directed towards NCSoft, and unfortunately a significant amount of that is being extended towards Korean society in general. I can understand why you think they are a hate group, given the apparent glee some express at the drop in NCSoft's stock.(Before you say Titan is not a hate group...remember you are speaking to a Korean who was disgusted by some of the actions against NCSoft by using Asian culture in an attempt to inflict shame; which was sanctioned by Titan. So yeah to me; as a Korean American...they are a hate group)
I think those who are attempting to use aspects of Asian culture in attempt to inflict shame are not actually functioning in a hateful manner (or at least, they themselves do not believe that their actions are intended as such), but rather seeing a potentially effective method of expressing their displeasure.
I am sure you understand the western concept of honour well enough to understand that there is no actual intended hatred from the actions in question, but truth be told, I would definitely agree that there is intense disrespect present.
So, hate group is not entirely accurate, but you're not wrong to perceive it as such, either. -
Quote:200 years or so after his death, to be precise.nah he was also known for using his hand crafted microscope and recording the activities of bacteria and other. He is also known as the father of microbiology and the first microbiologist. died 1723. He discovered them in 1675, 17th century. Of course it took a few to get the word out. Of course antibiotics, and other things to stop diseases caused by bacteria didnt come until years later.

Quote:Indeed, but looking at the financial reports with the eyes of an accountant, there's quite a few things that just don't add up the way they should. Even if NCSoft's stock hadn't been dropping for the past several weeks, I still wouldn't touch it.The stock slump has to do with the financial report, with Aion, Lineage and Lineage II taking massive revenue hits and Blade & Soul isn't performing up to expectations...you know...over in Korea. It's not rocket science. But you have to drop the hate and BS
when you analyze stocks and companies.

Quote:I suppose that makes sense. Most of my cultural exposure is predominately African or from the Ancient Near-East (The Hittites, Sumerians, Babylonians, Persians, etc) rather than Asia. If a game and its community showed a shocking disrespect to my own culture, I'd not want to play it either.I have no fears they would intentionally mess up any of my toons. My dislike/distrust stems from more a cultural stand point. IF CoH were saved, IF Titan was not playing any type of key role in the production/maintenance of the game (much like they did pre-8/31), and IF I did come back I would try to grab my original name that I wanted for my main toon and go from there....those are three VERY big IFs.

Faith is merely another word for trust, really.
