I spit my coffee out at "housescrapper."

But seriously, inside the blender, I really don't mind if someone hits my target. Sometimes, the more chaos, the better.

Feral. Definitely Feral. I soloed Atta. I soloed Frostfire. I soloed Doc Vahz, and I made a good-faith attempt at a +2 Terra (Claws just doesn't cut it).

Actually, I'm probably closer to a Wild than a Feral.

Feral, here.

Don't feel bad about Claws and +2 Terra. Katana fared no better against a +3 Terra

I would have to say I'm a Feral Scrapper, untill the s@#t hits the fan, I turn on elude, and then the Wild scrapper comes. Once that hits I fear for everyone's life... but mine!

This post is awsome kudos to the OP

I'll admit, I'm a feral scrapper. Brilliant, if more people read this, they'd understand when they team with me, don't get in my way.

gonna link this in my profile sometime, it's an absolute must-read

Well, of my... *pauses to count* five Scrappers, War Cat (17 Claws/Regen) is the only one I've played enough to classify... but she's definitely a Feral type. Tends to either duo with another Scrapper (a Dark/Dark who also happens to be a frequent RP partner) or solo; her only large team experiences have been TF/Trial (and let me tell you, trying to go Feral through the Cavern of Transcendence just doesn't work too well), or sidekicked up to a level 50 to tag along on some AV missions.

By the way, big props on soloing Atta... War Cat tried it, and couldn't overcome his regeneration rate. Not to mention that he kept knocking her on her butt so much that she could neither heal nor get good, solid hits in.

I laugh at people who complain about controllers pets. I get much better ones. *pets the squishies he's inimidated into teaming with him*

You definitely made some improvements! I liked the read a lot. I will reiterate what I said previously…

In an 8 man team enemies will be blasted out from underneath you. AOE’s in particular have a tendency to kill indiscriminately. It doesn’t matter what class you are, you will waist energy on an attack that will miss due to the target being dead. Letting the scrapper have his kill is great in theory, but isn’t always as easy in practice. You gave some good examples when to not “honor” the scrappers desire to kill his own foe. That being said when possible give the scrapper his kill.

Two things can help this. First is communication which you so aptly pointed out (have the scrapper take out boss etc). Second is by team action. If you are a blaster and your main target is dead and you “tab” to the next one if he is at ½ life and next to a scrapper just simply “tab” one more time. Likewise, if you are the scrapper and someone blasts the guy you were fighting into the next room (or finishes him), just “target enemy near” and continue on your devastating way. Hopefully that won’t happen very often and hopefully you will get enough kills that those few ninja kills won’t bother you.

P.S. love the blender reference.

Atta... is that the Troll boss in the hollows? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Posted

Nope, that's him. I took him on before he was an "Elite Boss" and nearly got my butt kicked by him. That was a hard, long, close fight. I was 17 at the time, so knockdown and disorient weren't issues, but health and End was. I lost my toggles right before finally putting him down, and I was in the orange. Then his two minion pals put me into the red before I could drop them.

In fact, it was so close that literally, it came down to a single swing. The last minion and I would be defeated by the next swing, should it connect. We swung simultaneously.

He missed. I didn't.

Posted

Okay, they've changed him quite a bit then. I was able to solo him on my defender.

Posted

Ah, okay... War Cat was 15 when she tried to take on Atta, and this was maybe two weeks or so ago, so he'd already acquired Elite Boss status. Didn't have the problem of any of his minions aggroing: I did a superspeed hit-and-run, smacking him and drawing him off to the back of the room without anybody else noticing. But with my only defense being Reconstruction (1 Heal 1 Recharge, plus Hasten) and Fast Healing (1 Heal), well... x_x

I like scrappers. They clean themselves, are independant, and find their own foo- err bad guys.

Blasters? Meh. Have to lead 'em around on a leash, else they happily go running ahead, slobbering all over some poor baddie before I'm ready. And they don't clean up after themselves! (Those darn AoEs leave some baddies wounded only.)

[Oh, my main is a lv 41 Blaster. ]

This is truly brilliant.
Of my two scrappers Mr Insidious (level 36 DM/Regen) is a domesticus and Second Being (Level 32 Spines/Invuln) is a Feral with domesticus tendancies.

I am so going to forward this guide to several friends. I think they will get a kick out of it.

Great post!

Feral Scrapper here with tendancies toward wild, though I have adopted a cute rad/rad defender as a duo partner. I simply have started thinking of her as an extention of myself. Loved the part about scrapper lock. Should I find myself in large teams, I find myself often going solo and claiming a seperate group of enemies as my own.

Now if you will exuse me, its time for my defender's bath.

Sheesh so many people as feral or wild... none civilized!

Of course till I hit the 40s, I was quite feral, but the posh life is for me now, let the tanks kill all the minions, I just want a nice taste of that juicy AV at the end of this big tin can. Now please excuse me as I glide along, swating at various things that get in my way...

Great Post btw, very nicely said.

Nice addition...I will now and forever think of scrappers as cats and blasters as dogs.

Original Poster, you're my new favorite hero.

Well, I guess I'll be the first to characterize my scrapper as domesticated. However, I think there are a few addenda to be made to the OP.

"I was fine." This utterance usually follows any situation where, getting bored with the occasional breaks other heroes like to take for some reason, the scrapper charges ahead and begins liquefying the +2 Devouring Earth that the mission is packed with. Seeing the scrapper hit orange in a matter of seconds and eat all the inspirations accumulated in an evening's work, the rest of the team decides to "rescue" him, despite their unpreparedness. Rather than the gratitude any reasonable AT would profess, they are met with an eye roll and an assurance that their little charge was very cute, if not particularly needed. NOTE: This is required even when the scrapper knows darn well he had only seconds to live.

Scrapperlock encompasses more than the previously mentioned conditions. Once it has reached its apex, the scrapper is helpless to do more than tab away from a fallen enemy, move toward the new object of his ire, and mash attacks until that enemy falls as well. Teammates, toggles, Enhancement tray, food, and symbolic conceptualization all fall by the wayside as the scrapper approaches the ideal of "Just run toward the nearest living thing and kill it."

I considered adding the "thanks for the assist" section.

"Thanks for the assist" would be the phrase uttered by a particularly polite scrapper (note that it is not uncommon for Feral and even Wilds to use this phrase) whenever a teammate offers some help which does not interfere with the scrapper's own combat. In this case, an "assist" can qualify for anything from finishing off a bad guy who has only a sliver of life left, drawing off a horde of bad guys who MIGHT pose a slight threat to the well-being of the scrapper, all the way up to running a gauntlet of +5s to administer a combat resurrection.

Wow... you nailed it!

My main is a feral... no question. But that's only because my 'first' main was a defender, so I have a particulare empathy towards squishies. Most of the time he's forced to act as a wild. For some reason he doesn't get team invites, even when LFT. My tanker and medic get blind invites all the time, but Kutlass can't even solicit them..... maybe more articles like this one will help...

Scrapperlock: That's me in so many ways. I get SOOOOOOO irritated when someone feels the need to help me out or 'finish off' the one I'm working on. Even when the blaster I've adopted for duo's does it. (I know better than to let the team know how irritated I am though... that's not why I have trouble teaming.) I thought all of the OP was hilarious and dead on.

As for 'I'm fine'.... oh yeah. I can't count the number of times I've completely freaked out the pick up team I was on. I usually end up with a rep for riding the red line. But remember... you can't tell how many insp I have left, and you can't tell how quickly my reconstruct is coming back! The whole thing about knowing your limits by testing them is right on.

It's funny... my secondary isn't like that. She's much more civilized. Scrapperlock still occurs by times, but she's much more team aware. It could be that my primary is Claws/Regen (a set that lends itself very quickly to wild) where as the other is Katana/SR (Toggle heavy and a lot more micro management.... as well as Katana supposedly a 'refined warriors' weapon.) Not sure though.

I'm a civilized myself. Mainly though, that's because I'm a broadsword/dark armor scrapper. I pretty much always have been (with very violent twisted wild tendancies). A mob of about 50 carnies last night killed me and a scrapper, pissed me off (not the debt, the being unprepared). So I came back, turned EVERYTHING on at once with conserve power and the martial artist couldn't speak as I tore through them with reckless abandon.

I go through energy like a kid who's hungry in a candy factory. So I always had the habit of sticking close to the person with my RA fix. Now...that's not to say I haven't tanked, ninjaed, or terrorifyed my team mates to the point that they're speachless.

When you get oppressive gloom, fear, and cloak of shadows...almost anything becomes fair game....almost anything. When you add in psychic protection against psychic AV's, I laugh at invulnerability tanks trying to keep up (most of which are cursing my name because they can't keep up with me).

Living Blender? I'm a living chainsaw at a butter convention. And my favorite quote is "Oh! There's one! Just one more! No just one more! There's one!"

One thing to mention though, a very special breed of scrapper which I am, sort of a character flaw I guess. I'm loaded with 6 second breaths, 6 dramatic improvements, 4 bounce backs, and 4 empty trays at the top. Even in AV fights mostly I tend to avoid using my inspirations, because mostly I think they're not worth it, a lot of times I'm right. Mainly because I'm protective of them (they look so pretty sitting in my tray), and two I figure if I'm ever in a fight with about 6 AV's someone's gotta be prepared. ^-~

You're not alone. I tend to carry 4 reds, 4 purples, 2 greens, 2 blues, 2 yellows, and a Bounce Back... everything at least level 2. And I get UBER HACKED if I have to burn any of them; do you know how HARD I worked to collect all those? Still trying to find another Bounce Back, too... *grumble mutter*
