Hamidon Enhancements in the Arena
[ QUOTE ]
Does your casual player base mean so little to you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Does arrogance mean something to you?
This game is trying to give casual people a fun game while at the same time hardcore people a fun game. Hardcore people have Hamidon enhancements while casual people enjoy the story arcs and other things.
Your argument is just like what the Hardcore crowd says..."Does the hardcore player base mean so little to you?"
This space is intentionally left blank.
I have been looking forward to the implementation of PvP since I started CoH. And I fall in with those who are concerned about the effect of Hami enhancements on PvP. Like many others, I found the 'loot-free' aspect of CoH refreshing after other MMO's and, in fact, that is a big part of the reason I am still here after my core group of gaming friends have moved to newer games.
I have participated in Hami raids and, for me, they are just not fun ... the massive style raids never have been my style. If it ends up that farming Hami becomes necessary to be competitive in PvP then I will sadly accept that the game direction is no longer for me.
But I think the developers have done an outstanding job so far and I trust that they will take all play styles into consideration while they work out the details of PvP.

You do realize that many of us are here because we actually wanted a game without the madness of Elite Loot? That we don't want to feel forced into farming?
Does your casual player base mean so little to you?
Given the choice between farm-for-the-win and skip Arena/CoV I'll skip PvP -- ToA taught me that much.
Loot Farming wins again... Very disappointed.
[/ QUOTE ]Actually..the devs have said on many accounts that they want the game to be very accessible. Also, I'd wait to see how much of an advantage these enhancements will give players in the arena before criticizing it.
[/ QUOTE ]
We really don't need to wait, math does it all.
6 HO DMG/ACC = 300% base to-hit. Something like that eliminates any defense currently in the game.
I really don't care. I'm going to hit level 50 this week and then start farming my Hami-Os. Hopefully I can get about 10 before I4 hits live.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Jonbo, we get it...you're stance is pretty well known by now, you've posted 40 times in every hammy thread. You are however pretty biased on the issue since you're in JL with most likely over 70% full of HOs. Most of us hardly have one, even though we've been to many successful raids.

Hamidon Enhancements are killer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Especially for all those Nova and Inferno blasters and their friends that are nuking the Buds apparently and "stealing everyone else's Ph4T l007".
...Or have ya been blissfully unaware of that little problem?
But don't mind me, I'm just starting a new hobby of picking at any issues I can find now where PvP screws up PvE balance and visa versa.
Give them time man. From my PM from Statesman it seemed that they really havent even considered this (thats completely my interpretation of course and nowhere does he state this). If the game goes towards uberloot and SG raiding as the only way to be competetive then you can make your decision. Me personally, my SG is recruiting mature and competent players . If many (as they seem to suggest by their posts) truly have no concept of the game mechanics then maybe a truly excellent team w/o HOs can beat one with them. We shall find out soon.

That was actually one of my points to Statesman in my last PM to him. At the very least the distribution system needs to be changed.
I find it sad so many people are willing to give up just because some people have special enhancements...
A Blaster with Hamihancers still has Blaster weaknesses... No matter how many Hamihancers I have, if I don't play smart, I'm going to lose - period...
I've played many games (not MMOs) which pit you against others and the one thing I've learned is that it doesn't matter what advantage you have on your side, if the other player outsmarts you and/or simply outplays you - you're going to lose...
An idiot player with Hamihancers is still an idiot player...
I actually think that's pretty damn hilarious because Cuppa just made a post calling it "Griefing".
I live out in the west and it reminds me a lot of so many of the Water-Rights legal battles that plague this area. You can't just tell people to "Share and be nice" in thsi kind of situation, everyeone's going to have different interpretations of who has entitlement to them. Arguments over who did the most work, etc.
I mean honetly, there's no way I see to actually enforce this which makes that a hollow threat and the whole reward system for this raid has to be revised if they're really serious about keeping PvE balance seperate from PvP balance ... a sterile divide if you will...

Hamidon Enhancements boost either TWO aspects of a power by 50% or THREE aspects of a power by 30%.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually.... The recharge boost on a ToHit/Defense/Attack Rate HO is 50%.
Defense and ToHit are obviously much harder to test, but it seems to me that HOs offer 150% of the bonus an SO provides to each of the bonuses involved (50% to those that give 33% for an SO and 30% to those that give 20% for an SO), regardless of the number of bonuses provided.
works for me. go hami killers!
Thank you for clarifying that blasters will own the arena -- only blasters... why? 350% bonus acc/dam + aim + BU + snipe = instadeath to any class.... thanks for negating all other classes including all def based classes... Come to think of it I don't think I will bother with PK now so it may be time to say goodbye to this game... so much for pvp being fair...
Nucleolus - 50% DAM + 50% ACC
Centriole - 50% DAM + 30% Range
Peroxisome - 50% DAM + 50% "Mez"
Endoplasm - 50% ACC + 50% "Mez"
Golgi - 50% HEAL + 50% END
Ribosome - 30% RES + 50% END
Microfilament - 50% Travel + 50% END
Lysosome - 50% -ToHit + 50% -Def + 50% ACC
Enzyme - 50% -ToHit + 50% -Def + 50% END
Membrane - 50% ToHit + 30% DEF + 50% RCH
Cytoskeleton- 50% ToHit + 30% DEF + 50% END
States is off-base on his bonuses, 4 HO perma hasten proves it.
We have a number of options available. For example, "No Travel Powers".
Can "No Hamidon Enhancements" be one? Will Hydra Enhancements and such be negative factors to PvP players as well?

Interesting decision. It just goes to my theory that "average player" vs. "average player" pvp and "hardcore pvp" vs. "hardcore pvp" will probably both be pretty fun, but the "average player" vs. the guy who respects purely for PvP and farms hami like crazy is going to be awefully one-sided.
Any chance that one of the arena Ground Rules will be "no hami-enhancements"? (Or actually even "no enhancements" might be pretty interesting as well and just as balancing...)
Quick Edit: Heh, Frosty, you just beat me to the punch on this suggestion.

A "No Hamidon Enhancement" option wouldn't work at all because Hamihancers buff more than one stat of the power its slotted into... If it were just one stat, an option like that could just cap the Hamihancer buff to that of a lvl53 SO, however this isn't the case...
are you goin to address the issue of the tripmines being used to steal the hami's ? enhancments ?
A little off topic, but i'd just like to say that as more information about the Arena and pvp in general is released, the more i'm flabergasted by the ammount of programming being done to tweak game balance and arena options.
If any one person says "That's all we're getting in issue 4 is Arenas?" then they obviously don't understand the depth involved in creating such "small" additions.
Keep up the good work. I can't wait to play test this stuff
If I had wanted to play a game where I could farm my way to PvP success, I would have never left Dark Age of Camelot.

This is what really confuses me... Yes people do set Trip Mines and take enhancements, but why aren't Pets mentioned? Or Burn? Or nukes (Blasters and Defenders)? Or Spines and Claw Scrappers? - I've seen each one of them steal enhancements on a regular basis, but the only that gets mentioned is Trip Mines...
Here's an idea, if you see Trip Mines down, move away from them before the buds spawn... If anything, Trip Mines are the easiest problem to deal with...
Can we at least have some more ways to earn these things? I'm having a hard time swallowing the idea that *now* we're suppose to Farm.
Why did you even bother changing that Wolfie mission so it couldn't be farmed? Pre 45 you protect us from our bad instinct to Farm, Post 45 you want us to Farm... confusing...
Folks in WoW complain about an end game that revolves about farming a handful of raids. They don't know how lucky they are - at least they got a handful...
It seems to me that if you are unwilling to farm HOs, or cannot for some reason, then PvP post 45 may be tipped against you. A decent player with Hammy-Os on summer vacation will give the working parent a tough fight. For many this doesn't make 45+ PvP appealing.
Lets not forget that the Pre-45 game is still fair. I think more props, stature, kudos, and atta-boys will be given to the pre-45 title holders. I know I will not be able to look at 45+ title holder and say they are truly good players, as the playing field is not level. I'll assume that HOs are involved somewhere. I don't know what the ranks will be called, but if I see someone 44 and below with a top ranking, I'll know they must be skilled. At levels 45+, forget about it, I'll doubt that person's actual skill.
We must also remember that it's all by concent. I'm working out a weekly PvP plan with my SG and allies. We don't farm and so the 45+ game will still be even ground. So those who farm and those who grief to get more, may be left fighting each other on uneven ground to get the same ranking that non-farmers have earned on even ground. Keep that in mind and take heart. You do not have to farm HOs to compete, that only comes into play if you choose combat the random player.

To Sum Up: People with Hamidon Enhancements are Bad, and Lack Skill. I will not be playing them, my friends will not be playing them, and I will have less respect for people who I think May Have Them.
Sir, are the grapes REALLY that sour?

Well... I've sure tasted sweeter! *smiles*
What I dislike is the fact that we can not take advantage of the DUMB [censored] who chalanges some one 20 levels higher than him/her. If they are stupid enough to do it they should pay for it. And I don't even plan on doing PvP.
