I remember when Lady Liberty (Or miss Liberty, don't remember 100%) started accusing people on the Beta Forums about her name being stolen back during the whole name reservation debacle.

[/ QUOTE ]

That was actually settled by the forum member Miss Liberty getting word from the devs that she would be "accepting the mantle" from the other Ms. Liberty. Never really did hear much of her once the game was past a few months old.

DEAR LORD! *reads old descriptions*

-Under "Leaping" power it says, "Limited Maneuverability". HA!

-Dawn Patrol and Midnight Society were going to be as involved in giving out missions as Freedom Phalanx and Vanguard. This was back when missions were gotten from Terminals and not Contacts. The interesting thing would be if at low levels you go to MAGI, SERAPH, ELITE, GIFT, etc for missions and at high levels you got to the Freedom Phalanx, Dawn Patrol, Midnight Society, etc. for missions of the Elder Game. (Groups that didn't make it in, or were altered: Explorers, Free Company and D.E.N.A. - Dept. of Extra Normal Affairs. Easy to see what happened there.)

-*sob* The Fifth Column were prevalent *sob*

-Villain groups: "Nemesis" was finally realized as a quasi-Dr. Doom with a penchent for steamwork technology, also quite old. The Rikti are our most dire threat in the form of invasion. Devouring Earth the most monstrous force we deal with. Of course, the ones who changed or didnt make it in: Seraphim, Killing Crew and Fear Factor. (I'm sure name changes were most important, one has Kill in the name, one's a copyrighted TV series, one's to like a later "good" group.)

-Fame (50 levels, from Unknown to Legendary). In the description, Fame can go up and down based on success or failure, and Exp could be lost if defeated (this would have been terrible and I'm glad they created Debt instead). At the bottom of the Gameplay features, it lists Bases *sigh*

I remember taking the tram for the first time and being scared of all the deep purple mobs that I could see from the train platform. (before you could choose where you wanted to go)

I remember having to work the night of the Rikti invasion and logging on about an hour after it had ended.
I remember all the people spamming their powers untill the server went down the last night of Beta.
I remember most of us who were there missing several messages from the GM (or dev I never did find out who it was playing a Big Rikti boss in front of city hall) who was there to say goodbye because of this.

O ye that love cake! Ye that love to lick and nibble, stand forth! Freedom to taste and savor hath been hunted round the boards. If I am to be denied my cake ere long, let it be said that I went to my fate with a face full of creamy frosting and a smile on my face.
Go. Nibble. Lick Cake!

I remember staring at the tram screen wondering which king's row I should be going to.

I remember using Hover as a travel power.

I remember a friend wanting to see CoH, but he came to visit during the blackout between beta and preorder headstart.

I remember when pick up groups didn't suck. (Or at least any more than you did)

I remember the people running around and around in circles next to the KR tram.

I remember thinking that I would never play a MMO.

I remember when a mutant who started in Atlas Park was asked to go see Jose Brogan...
Jose Brogan was bugged and nowhere to be found.

I remember purple 5th column boss in my level 15 "find the escape route" or "arrest education officer" mission.

I remember (but that's not that old) when Coyotee was not at the end of the tutorial.

I remember a guy named Sensai with more than 10.000 posts at the time I joined the forum.

I remember the bad jokes of a guy named Ploq.

Still, it was amusing how many people were screaming about having their names "stolen".

I remember when everyone thought their first contact was underground.

I remember when there was a room labeled "SG Vaults" to the left of the entrance in city hall.

I remember when charachters stared to get 3 enhancement slots per level around level 17.

I remember when people identified themselves by which batch they had been invited in.

I remember when MacAllen was a mod on the old forums.

I remember when there was no quick enhancement tray, and when you ran out of room, you got no warning.

I remember when the only server was identified by its DNS address.

I remember when everyone claimed zone instancing would be the death of COH.

I remember the yellow titles the winners of the "who could get through the tutorial the fastest" contest got.

I remember the reports of all the crazy stuff the devs did with people's titles and powers on April Fools day.

I remember when no one could find Mrs. Liberty because they thought she was another player.

I remember the line in front of the Zig when Positron leveled up all the level 32s to 38 so they could test the Hamidon.

I remember a time when Wormhole was a grav controller's ultimate power.

I remember the first time I realized I could jump over fences.

I remember when someone figured out that they could measure their jump height by standing on a waypoint.

I remember when the "Kill 10 COT" mission in Perez didn't count down.

I remember when "Speak to security cheif" missions wouldn't work if you logged off before talking to the security cheif.

I remember when smoke grenades made /Dev blasters better tanks then tankers

I remember when smoke grenades were fixed so they were working as intended and all the /dev cried NERF!

I remember Boomtown

[/ QUOTE ]

I remember thinking "I'll take Smokes after the nerf, so I get used to them when they work as intended"

I remember getting laughed at because I didn't have smokes.

I remember thinking "Hahaha, will be funny to see all these dev blasters cry" (were there any other blasters?)

I remember getting Smoke nades at lvl 40+ somewhere, because that's when the correction finnaly came

I honestly don't se many Dev blasters today

Posted

I remember asking blasters to group with me before smoke grenade was fixed, and getting a reply along the lines of "I can kill entire groups of reds without getting touched. Why should I group with you when I don't get anything out of it n00b?"

I remember after smoke grenades were fixed and blasters were screaming about how nobody would group with them, and didn't understand why.

Come to think of it, I remember when being able to kill a group of reds at all was an accomplishment.

I remember making my first character ALL blue and white because I didn't realize you had to turn off the color coorinator.

I remember seeing a scrapper flying on my team and thinking how cool it looked.

I remember taking Hover, setting it autorun and going for a bio break and using it to Hover over half of Perez park, since it was too dangerous for my lil tank.

I remember training up to level 14 and taking Fly "Woohoo! I can FLY!" and just zipping around Galaxy City for an hour checking out rooftops.

I remember dreaming of the Respec Trial after i first heard of it and shelving my tank at level 27 until he could take it.

I remember a teammate throwing some stuff on the ground and saying "heh Caltrops, They're uber." and another teammate going "you know they've nerfed those right?" and NOT having any clue what they were talking about.

I remember doing the Gypsy mission for the 5th time and thinking "Damn, again? maybe I outta kill her myself this time ...."

I remember when the Devs thread was created by a player created process rather than by Cryptic. Who was it that did the original? Can anyone remember?

SabreCat. Good old SabreCat. Where are you now?

[ QUOTE ]

Q.How can Super Intelligence be used? How would my character be different with it, than without it?
A.Super Intelligence will be very advantageous for skill-based heroes—those that use a lot of items. They will be able to figure out and use their skills more quickly and effectively.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

Q.How many powers can I have?
A.The number of powers you can have depends on the origin you choose but the range is between 3 and 8.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

Q.So what are skills then?
A.Skills are used to successfully attack and inflict damage with a power, or perform non-combat operations such as lock picking and bomb disarming.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I heard that Killing Crew was the original Sky Raiders. Thw went from blood thirsty mercs to, well, greedy government trained blood thirsty mercs. I have no idea about Fear Factor, though. Perhaps some group that will be added in the near future?

I remember when Rikti monkeys gave good xp....before Issue 1 you could often find high 30s heroes in the back of Crey's Folly farming monkeys for the xp.

Another pre-issue 1 memory is the Abandoned Sewers being pretty popular...you could actually go there looking for a team and find one.

I remember the old team seek window, and when it wasn't able to span multiple zones.

I remember being *very* excitied about doing my first TF, which was the Positron TF. After the first mission so many died they decided to quit, leaving my blaster and a controller as the only ones on the team. I also had no travel power at the time...that was one long TF...

I'm certain this one has been mentioned already..but I remember the infamous 'Purple Patch' and the uproar it caused. Unfortunately that patch was the reason a good friend of mine left the game.

It's quite amazing to think of how much has been added over the past year...just imagine in another year!

I remember the Issue 2 test server riot.

I remember the streams of heroes heading to the contact points for the cape mission.

I remember when people could teleport through walls (and get to places like the Faultline trial area)

I remember when Boxhead and his site was the all knowing god of CoH info. His word was gospel

I remember Yankee Daring. He's still my favourite player-created hero. Ever. Remember the "What villains say about Yankee Daring" thread? He was ina class all by himself. Guess he quit after he realized his super strong character couldn't move and did piddiling damage :/

I remember a guy named "Ryushu" or something making a post about how pissed he was for not instantly getting a beta invite. Since he had registered to the forum several months ago. Never mind that he hadn't posted before.
I remember the forum errupting like volcano in that thread and people flaming him in Haiku

I remember visiting my friend last March and watching the CoH demos
he had downloaded (which featured a gravity controller in Outbreak).
I remember thinking that was an awesome looking demo and that
I would definitely get involved in this game.

I remember my friend calling me sometime later while he played
on another friend's beta account and gave me the low-down
on gameplay and mechanics. "It's root and nuke, just like EQ."

I remember lurking on the boards in beta.
I remember buying the game on the 3rd day of head start but not
being able to download the beta-client before midnight. (I went
out to see 'The Punisher' AAMOF)

I remember deleting my main twice after taking 'gimp' powers
(namely jump kick and hasten ) and my friend had levelled to
15 and told me, "you need to get in a SG right away, because
you cannot solo in this game past level 10!" ...he was DM/Reg

I remember AP 1, 2 and 3.

I remember using whirling sword and superleap to solo groups of
Lost in Boomtown from 18-20, using the war walls as my perch.

I remember doing Synapse TF with my main and 7 blasters.

I remember Shikamaru ranting about SR being entirely sub-par
and outdone by power pools.

I remember watching Confessor's AV soloing demo ...in awe.

I remember when MacAllen, Geist, SENSEI & Jazz were moderators.

I remember Fighter & Black Mage of the old forum.

I remember that Hero1 actually posted a couple of times on the old forum.

I remember El Bob.

I remember the Giant Tapeworm petition.

I remember the various reactions when NCSoft was announced as the publisher.

I remember when having a low world detail setting would cause parts of the road, buildings and other objects completely disappear (KR & SC Tram-stations would go away below 70).

I remember when both Hasten and Accelerate Metabolism were perma without any slots.

*ghasp!*

The Giant Tapeworm! I'd clean forgotten about that!

I remember the hours I spent drooling over all the options in the character creator in beta. Going through Outbreak and actually reading everything all your contacts had to say...because you didn't know squat. The biggest thing that left a lasting impression on me though....

I remember appearing in Atlas Park for the first time....at the bottom of the stairs....the Atlas Park theme music playing...seeing huge amounts of heroes...most of them like me....experiencing the game for the very first time.

I still kinda get a taste of that vibe when I return to Atlas Park and hear that music play...

Remember when you had to be lvl 5 to ride the tram?

As for the tutorial, I still do it with every char. Easy lvl 2, 2 insp, and an enh, and a badge if you want it.

I remember getting the kill CoT mission in King's Row and there were only 5 rooftops they spawned on. Rarely. Camped to hell and back.

I remember when Super Jump didn't have the slide effect, and I could pinpoint land on top of small landings. Lucky if I guess my landing spot correctly now...

I remember the Rikti invasion, and how most of the zones had multiple instances. There were something like 12 Atlas Parks.

I remember running out of all my completed missions until someone said, "You know, you can click 'Mission Complete' and exit."

I remember the first Defenders who helped me out, inspiring me to ditch my first Hero and create a Defender, who is now my main Hero and just hit lvl 49.

I remember the first time I saw a Hero fly overhead and how it made me think, "This is going to be the coolest game ever."

I remember the first time I walked through a CoT portal and found myself in a completely different section of the map than the rest of my team.

I remember when I2 came out and there were huge crowds outside the Terra Volta reactor building, watching as the door would open and entire teams of dead Heroes would get tossed out. I remember the server crashing on three separate occasions as my team and I tried to complete that trial.

I remember the first time I went to Portal Corp and tried to jump into the portal, only to have nothing happen and realize I had to click it to get it. (So much less dramatic)

I remember thinking I would play the first month free and then drop my subscription because I can't imagine ever paying $14.99 a month to play a game. That was over 9 months ago and I still love this game.
