Oh sweet nostalgia!
I remember, like it was yesterday, when you supersped to the hospital exit door and clicking to get out would freeze there, and you'd have to wait 10 seconds.
like a slap in your face "HA! YOU WERE DEFEATED, PUNY HERO, NOW WAIT HERE SOME MORE!".
ARggggghhhh.....worse........bug..........ever.
I also remember perma-holding dr vahz and babbage.
I remember that if you clicked fast enough on the teleporter when you were being revived at the hospital, you'd get teleported outside of the hospital.
I remember asking for a comic book that one could lay by to the game. Like the one that was with INCUBATION *anyone remember THIS game?
And we thought about telling a bit of the past of Paragon City. Well so nice that we have a comic now *well not for the foreigners right now *Hint@paperback*
Well that was then, on the COHforums 2001
I remember Adam Selene and all his ninja goodness.
I remember when Superspeed had sick defensive buffs
I remember when the purple patch went in and made herding +15's impossible
I remember when a dev PKed a player in beta
I remember when my beta invite came.. I was so excited that I ran in circles for about five minutes
I remember Ultrababe from beta who was so snotty and stuck up that I refused to heal her
I remember all three iterations fo the name reservation scheme
I remember meeting a level 38 character in beta who gave me a pile of influence... I couldn't blow it fast enough
I remember I remember groaning every time a member of Equinox posted about our accomplishments (yes we WERE super powergaming fiends) and the entire general discussion board erupting in flames
I remember when all of Equinox got bored and left
I remember a lot more but... I think thats enough
Oh my goodness... I remember entering the tutorial in beta for the first time.. I was so giddy at having designed my first character... I was besides myself. I couldnt believe how beautiful the world was, how awesome every hero looked! I felt at that moment I was almost there! I ran around and looked at everything at first.. i couldnt help myself.. I finished the tutorial and ended up in Atlas. God Ms. Liberty was so hot! and everyone was like me.. with their jaws on the floor just trying out everything.. going everywhere. We all knew what we were supposed to be doing.. testing the game, finding bugs, et al, but those first few days were like Alice through the looking glass or the Pensives walking out of the wardrobe and into Narnia... it was so amazing
I remember defeatingmy first hellion, then running up and down every stair case looking for baddies and jumping/leaping all the time.. splashing around in all those fountains...
I remember my first time in KR and on my first COT mission.. and using the window sils to jump up on and up and up until you reached the roof without using the ladders.. god that was so cool.
I remember also being afraid to go into Perez park! God that place was a nightmare to me... you could so easily get lost
I remember seeing my first bug: I hit a helliion into the wall and he was stuck in the wall.. couldnt get out.. it was unbelievable...
I had always wanted to feel like a hero... and CoH did it for me.. and to this day its is THE GAME for me.. mor fun than anything I have ever played before or since (at least computer wise)...
I also remember looking at all the heroes as they stood around the statue of Atlas in the final minutes of Beta.. and I was actually so proud!!! We chrushed the Ritki then and I felt so heroic... and it was terrible to wait for the game to go live...
and we are barely scratching the surface here... all the gamers who are experiencing this game we love for the first time will have their own stories to tell.. and so will we... and that in itself is almost mind boggling... I cant even imagine what stories we'll be telling five years from now....
hmm. I remember 4 slotting brawl
i remember seeing a level 17 in KR with the title legendary and thinking he must be really good.
I remember my reaction (and those of my team mates) the first time i threw a fork lift that was the most amazing power.
I remember when there was no such thing as peregrine. Spending the hundreds of hours there might make some shocked at this.
I remember the first time doing the Steel TF and everyone thinking there was some spectacular reward like alot of exp and a special water facility badge. But in reality it would be several months before badges existed and the exp reward was squat
I remember wondering why some people i met liked making new characters. I always got tells from names ive never seen "hey this is so and so! made a new toon". LIttle did i know that this would soon be an epidemic.
I remember making it a goal when i was like level 10 to join the Dark Brotherhood on Ininfity (i never joined them by the way)
I remember meeting ONE random hero and decided to ask if i could join her SG just so i could see if i could find one i liked. That hero i ended up never talking to again and she ended up disapearing. But because of that one random team-up for a mission in boomtown i met the people i would be playing with for another 9 months. good times guys
I remember when missions were just about worthless as a means for experience. Zones were so laggy and it was hard to find a good spawn because EVERYONE was street hunting. Then i remember when they upped the reward for missions and zones got empty.
I remember herding WWs in portal missions then someone releasing videos on the forums of a tanker doing it, followed by an explosion of WW herding as a 'THE' way to level in the 40's.
I remember slotting combat jumping at level 13 (oh the absurdity of that choice...)
I remember someone teleporting off of a skyscraper in steel and leaving the team.
I remember people leaving halfway through the steel TF because fo one death's worth of debt.
Speaking of debt, i remember crying because my debt hit quadruple digits for the first time.
I remember never wanting a scrapper on my team.
I remember only wanting fire blaster on my team.
I remember when smoke grenade could be stacked enough to drop accuracy to 0
I remember the map patch from the forums that showed where all the shops were and mapped out perez.
I remember sliding across ceilings with combat jumping. Or sliding UP war walls with combat jumping
I remember TP foe was an extremly intricate part of a mission's strategy.
I remember When issue 2 went on test and the first day no one could figure out how to start the dam re-spec lol. And i remember the trying to zone into galaxy and the server going down.
I remember when the re-spec mission was finally figured out on test and actually beating it with an 8 person team when it was said to be way too hard.
I remember retiring my first main at 32 because re-spec wasnt even close to being out and re-rolling my FF defender
I remember hitting level 50 with my FF defender (i think i cried) and then partying in Atlas on the globe.
I remember the CoV pop-up on my computer that inspired me to get CoH in the first place. I always thought i hated pop-ups but this one actually worked!

I remember when I went to outbreak and looked for 20 minutes before I could find contaminated.
In these times, the contaminated didn't spawn very often.
[/ QUOTE ]
Remember during beta when they would have everyone create a new hero at the same time and everyone would be running around looking for contaminated?
I remember finding a small company on the internet making an announcement about a new game they had planned called, are you ready? City of Heroes. They didn't know how they were going to do it....They knew they wanted a few classes of characters, but didn't know what to call them. All powers would be available to everyone (yes, defenders could take burn) You could have forcefields, or you could have radiation blasts as a blaster. If you wanted to have ranged attacks as a tanker, no problem, just pick that power. It was totally freeform. Now all they had to do was start designing and coding the thing.
I checked back about every week for updates, not many were posted (BRAND new project) I forgot the webaddress and formatted/replaced my PC a few times and completely forgot about the game.
Then, one day.....(a few years later, 2?) I get this email from a friend, Check it out, he says. I do.
PREORDER IN 5 MONTHS!!!! OMG?????? How did I miss all this??? Beta slots already going out???? OMG???? I don't get a slot cause I forgot about the game??? OMG???? I WANNA PLAY TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (runs to Gamestop, preorders the preorder)......................................... .....................
Yeah, them were some exiting months in the end. People hitting refresh on the forums every 5 min. to find ANY new info on the game... People preordering the preorder.... Statesman saying that they split the powers up into groups, based on AT, finding out JUST what the ATs were, oh sweet nostalgia!
I remember seeing a lvl 11 outside the Steel Canyon entrance in Atlas Park who was reading a newspaper.
Me: How do you do the newspaper power?
<no response>
Me: What is AFK?

I remember endless debates about the purple patch, and people leaving over it.
I remember an endless thread about "Capes at 20" of which I was part and do not understand the decission to this day. People left over that.
I remember the beginning of the "CoH has no content" fever and people leaving over it.
I remember the constant requests for crafting.
I remember a time before "I'm leaving" posts were deleted.
But more than that, I remember a time when I made a Katana/SR scrapper, which combined 3 things everyone thought were gimped. That scrapper is now a pixel from 45.

I remember running all the way back through a map when the mission completed popped up because I was so excited at being an Axe/Stone Tank hero, I didn't bother reading the tutorial.
I remember the forums pre-horsey Positron.
I remember the Council/5th Column war in the streets.
I remember box hunting in Boomtown (I did it once and with all the convos with people I had..it was actually fun).
I remember taking down my very first Eochai in the very first Halloween event (that nice spawn spot in Steel Canyon by the Mutant store where the Council/Column always camp).
I remember people crying about the 5th Column leaving.
I remember taking a screenshot (that I still have) of my character literally crying by a group of grey 5th Column.
I remember the Winter Lord kids.
I remember the huge groups by the entrance to the Hollows that would share insps and enhancements/buffs before braving the run.
I remember trying to run across the Hollows for the first time at level 6.
I remember the trailers for the Shadow Shard.
*prepares to get blasted with a boomstick*
I remember creating my first character, Tarantu-claw on Protector but never used him and ended up deleting him because surprisingly I couldn't find a costume I liked, until now that is.
I remember opening a copy of PCgamer, only to find a free 14 day trial for City of Heroes (This was when I5 was about to hit live.)
I remember my first character... a level 12 blaster. I only ever got her that high because I didn't know were all the sweet spots were to level. I still have that blaster, a year and a half later. She's level 18 now.
I remember not having the funds to actually buy City of heroes. Instead, I relied on free trials. They lasted me from I5 release, to CoV beta.
I remember finding out about City of Villains, and thinking "OhmygodIhavetogetintothebeta.". I eventually went out, and got the pre-order. Little did I know that it would actually be 2 months later that Pre-orderers would get to play. I think it was 2-3 weeks before City of villains went live that they let us in.
I remember those 2-3 weeks of beta being the most fun ever.
I remember my beta mastermind, Zer'Tul.
I remember getting him to level 14, and getting my first travel power. (Fly.)
I remember Statesmans strike.
I remember getting the KO blow on statesman himself.
I remember spending the whole 2 day head-start, picking out a costume for my character. The costume eventually turned out to be the same as my beta costume.
I remember when PvP was in the works and <DEV Quote> "Won't change the PvE side of the game."
Then is was released and 179 of the 192 changes DIRECTLY changed the universal (PvP and PvE) use of powers. I cry I screamed, I played Guild Wars for a year.
BALANCE IS A NERF

Han Solo: [laughs] Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good BLASTER at your side, kid.
I remember playing between early Dec2004 through early Feb2005.
During that time, I remember being accused of kill-stealing in Atlas.
I remember swarms of people playing in the Hollows
I remember being on hunting parties in Perez (the place was swarming with players back then).
I remember going to King Row, and dying almost instantly.
I remember the first time I team, thinking "Wow! This is a lot of action!"
I then remember shutting my account down for a year because I was afraid it was going to be too addictive.

I remember the first time I encountered a Tree of Life. It was in King's Row (the remnants of a battle). About 30 folks came of pondering "Should we attack it? What do you think it will do?"
[/ QUOTE ]
haha I so remember that scene playing out. It was just sitting there and a bunch of us were like "what the hell is that thing?"

All around fun, and a nice group of "gals". Yeah, I know by this time that they probably aren't really female players, but they looked good and were a lot of fun, so I still think of Jill, DKupp, Tink, and company as "gals".

I remember when my life didn't include community filled with people who need to make a point of claiming that any given female avatar meant that a male was operating it simply because the avatar was female in the first place.
