I remember the end-of-beta Rikti invasion. Ahhh, what fun!

I remember that tiger chick

I remember MacAllen's monstrously beastly posts on things like Customer Service and stuff...

I remember the fame system

I remember people screaming at newbies to read the FAQ

I remember when I got my beta invitation... it was a glorious day...

I remember telling my friends "Yeah, it'll be out in the fall" four years ago

I remember when Telekenesis gave one of your teammates flight. Man that messed me up...stupid jokester MC teammate!

I can remember entering Perez Park from Atlas the first time, and seeing group after group of heroes fighting their way though the park. Nowadays... I might see one other person if I'm there.

[/ QUOTE ]
Well, a big factor in the emptiness of Perez is The Hollows. Really, there's not much of a reason to go over to Perez in the lower levels now.

I remember when I got the beta email, but had missed the end of the beta testing hours for the week and had to stew for days waiting for it to come back on. I remember getting up early just so I could play the game the minute it was open for the week's testing.

I remember blowing what seemed like an eternity just trying to full grasp the number of options in the costume creator.

I remember having a joygasm the first time I blasted a glowing eyed punk with my energy blasts.

I remember my first hero on release day, a MA/SR scrapper, and the first time I used the ol' Storm Kick on a contaminated punk. Someone said "Nice kicks!" and I said "I think so too!"

I remember my first time in Perez Park, when huge groups of 6-10 heroes would be sitting outside the Atlas Park entrance all shouting "LFG!"

I remember when almost all 1-20 mission tilesets were offices, broken offices, and warehouses. Someone ingame sent me a link to an archive of screenshots he'd uploaded and was gushing about the first time he saw the lab tileset during the Positron TF. Later that night I went to the link and stared in awe at how cool it looked.

Oh good lord saber.. I remember the 3 day a week beta! EEVIL!!!.... I too got in just after a play day... had to wait... *cries* Of course, I remember being on the boards when they made the change.. and before beta.. and then suddenly BETA! ... crazy.. Of course... I was Canadian Dragon then.. I sort of wonder if it was I who stole my name from myself with the whole reserve thing... Ahh memories..

When Perez was crowded around the atlas entrance and merely peeking your head in or running by (no matter what level you were) would net you about 10 blind invites.

[/ QUOTE ]
Too bad Faultline has been in even worse condition than current-day Perez since a month after release.

I remember when Super Speed was nerfed, it no longer gave defense and people whined and cried about how dangerous it was now, and how no one would ever use SS again!

[/ QUOTE ]
Well, you forgot to mention that after they removed the defense bonus, super speed had nothing...which is why people *WOULD* have not used it again *IF* they didn't add a stealth component a few days later.

I remember seeing my friends' screenshots of CoH for the first time.

I remember seeing a screen of a 5th Column base and thinking that it must feel a lot like being in Wolfenstein.

I remember seeing a screen of how some of my friends 'found this one crystal that deals damage and this other crystal that heals' inside a Circle of Thorns "base", and thinking that level must have been some part of a really awesome dungeon crawl.

I remember seeing a screen of some 'Devouring Earth' creature, how it looked really tall, and I wondered why they would want to beat up lawyers.

I remember seeing a screen of a bunch of defeated guys with jetpacks and thinking that they must be more 5th Column goons (because they looked a lot like stuff from The Rocketeer.)

I remember seeing a picture of this huge demon thing in what I could guess was a really high level zone, and thinking "I bet these zones are really big and detailed!"

I remember seeing a picture of Fatigue and LaserJesus fighting a "Circle of Thorns AV" in some sort of chapel, and thinking of how it must have been another part of a really cool, intricate and detailed dungeon crawl.

I remember actually reading the official CoH website and really liking the history.

I remember reading the Geography section and thinking that those were all the main zones there were, and that anything else would have just been like a seperate mission on its own.

...like when I read about Faultline on the official site, and thinking that Faultline would be a really cool "mission" to do.

I remember reading about Steel Canyon's skyscrapers and thinking that they would be so very big and massive, and how there would hardly be any figurative elbow room between them. I figured it would feel sort of like Gotham.

I remember reading about Skyway City and its bridges, and thinking that it was actually a network of terraces and highways constructed over the city, that you could easily cross between two parts of the city by going through Skyway, and that if you looked down over a bridge you could see the lights of the surface far below.

I remember thinking about how the Lost might actually be tied to cthonic beings from another dimension, and that a portal under the abandoned sewers would lead you to that place (this is my precognitive abilities telling me about the Shadow Shard. )

I remember hearing from a friend about how he took a ferry to Peregrine Island and got shot by a Crey Sniper. What I saw in my mind's eye is that he took a boat to an island inside a zone itself, where the massive Crey HQ was (housing the Countess herself, of course,) and got picked off by Metal Gear-esque snipers halfway there, all the way from the perimeter of the complex. This lead me to believe that a cloaked Blaster (like I would be) would be a necessity in actually reaching the island, sneaking past the security, and then beating up the snipers so that the rest of my party could make it safely.

I remember seeing Issue 1 previews, and thinking that the "Titans" would help the good guys.

I remember loading CoH for the first time and thinking about how totally sweet the experience was going to be.

I remember being horrified to discover that my newly-purchased video card still wasn't enough to run CoH.

I remember being horrified to discover, after purchasing the proper video card, that I didn't have a credit card to create an NCSoft account with.

I remember finally being able to make my Blaster after finding out that my debit card would work just as well.

I remember trying to be stealthy in the Outbreak door mission.

I remember being overwhelmed by the size of Atlas Park.

I remember being horrified at "finding a bug" in my very first mission, where I had completed it but hadn't found the clue inside, and my contact wouldn't talk to me until I found the clue.

I remember the sinking feeling I had upon entering Hell's Highway. It didn't help that Fatigue said, "Welcome to your first hell" upon entering Perez.

I remember being overwhelmed by the size of Perez Park.

I remember street-sweeping up and down Hell's Highway with a full team. I felt like someone in Mad Max.

I remember that I would always take the first shot on those mobs because I had the most powerful attack in that team with which to hit them, or something. (The attack was Energy Torrent.)

I remember running like a little girl from the Outcasts.

I remember thinking how totally awesome the 5th Column was, that they were so awesome I had to beat the living daylights out of them all.

I remember how incomparably awesome it was to fly.

I remember being overwhelmed by the size of Boomtown.

I remember how some time after that, all of the zones just seemed to get smaller and smaller. Once I came to terms with how every zone had its boundaries, the zones just felt clausterphobic all of a sudden. They kinda still do but I try not to pay attention any more.

Anyway, that's me.

Interestingly enough, even though I wasn't around until a few months ago, I too got that vibe about Skyway City. Is it something in the zone description?

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought the exact same thing. I imagine it's just the name, Skyway.

Actually, looking back on the main site, check the first paragraph on the description:

I remember Dragonflies, I think -- maybe that was a different game; they were an early type of Skyraider or something.

I remember going into Talos nearby where the gate is presently -- at one time, there was nothing but grass and water, but later there were Eidolon roaming.

I remember going through sewer missions and the doors evoked blue hand icons.

I remember thinking about the artifacts in Azuria's keep and thinking: those plaques will someday have writing, someday soon.

I remember my character being stuck in a network of pipes for three days with no way out.

I remember when people actually tried to help eachother on missions and actually pretended they were superheroes.

I remember *just knowing* our characters would someday soon have at least apartments and telephones, maybe TV and radio (yeah, just after release).

I remember when someone told me that Behemoth were being nerfed with the implication they were being removed entirely, and replying, "I'll miss those big lugs."

I remember when 46k in debt was something profoundly sad. I do not think there was mission experience at that time, because I deleted my character soon after and then I thought I'd cancelled my account -- the game had become full of treacherous folk (however, I came back and found a few characters I hadn't deleted, as well as an unused bulletin board username I evidently created).

I remember informing someone that MMORPG unintentionally exalt the alchemical truism, "What is below, so is above," to indicate that lower level lack of content resembles higher level lack of content always. I wasn't too far wrong, and still am not, I think.

I remember the last pleasant episode I had as Perlarosero was in Perez Park, shielding people who ran past. I was almost 30th level. A few of them were very grateful.

I remember running through the tram loops, and having to go through 5 city zones before being where I needed to go. And I'm still kinda sad that we don't have that anymore. It was kinda fun to keep running in loops and see how many of the other people doing the same thing were going to end up in the same zone as you.

I remember seeing Oranebaga for the first time, after they added in the new tile sets. I was running aroiund thinkign to mysellf, this place is so cool. It's so huge and detailed!"

Now when I enter, I think " Oh ****, this sucks. it's so huge and detailed it almost impossible to find anything in here."

I remember the first time I ran acrost Tsoo in SC. I ignored the sorcerer and attacked one of the others. Then wondering who was healing the others. I have never again attacked a group of Tsoo without attacking the sorcerer first.

I remember being the only person in Atlas Park - or any of the other zones for that matter. Just me and the mobs. So when I saw players actually log on during the first days of beta it was...the...coolest...thing...ever.

Reading these posts. Great fun.

I'd just like to say SaberCat is one of the coolest guys who EVER played this game. Seriously, all you n00bs bettah recognize!

Okay, someone mentioned the "Devs load 2 billion Hellions in Atlas" experiment. On the Beta boards someone posted a picture of his charater using Repel on a absolutely massive group of Hellions surrounding him. It looked amazing as Hellions went flying EVERYWHERE. Anyone have that picture?

I remember way back when the coh site first launched and I was actually interested in an online game.

I remember when groups like the Soviet Defenders of the Motherland were planned, and Carnival of Shadows was Carnival of Souls.

I remember a bunch of different origins like Mystical Articfact.

I remember every server being high load on weekends.
