Did they increase the speed on Hover?

I've been going through all my alts, fixing the ones that needed it with the free respec, and it seems to me that hover is significantly faster than it used to be. It's been awhile since I used hover, so maybe I'm just imagining it. Has anyone else noticed a difference?

Hover gets a little faster as you level like Fly does IIRC, if you haven't looked at it in awhile you've probably leveled to the point where the difference is noticable.

No, this is on a low level alt who I haven't played in a long time. That's why I haven't used Hover in awhile - my main doesn't use it.

where you flying closer to the ground then you used to? even a few yards closer can make it seem like you were going faster.

No, just maneuvering in the air like I always did. Just ignore me. I'm probably imagining it.

THANK YOU! someone has finally noticed it!

HOVER IS BUGGED!

i have bugged it in game, and on the Tech board with no response. hover gets SLOWER as you level. i have tested this many times.

hover race between a L6, L14, L35(me), L40

the L6s hover was almost 33% faster than mine. and i started to pull away from the L40 after about 100yds.

everyone had the same set up. No flight speed enhancers in Hover, No Swift, Sprint turned off.

PLEASE FIX IT!

You sure they didn't slot it? I noticed hover got a lot faster as I leveled.

test it. go find a L6 that just got the power and try and beat him. then bug it so it gets fixed.

edit*

i should note that i first tested and bugged this at L28. i am L35 now. it helps if you get a big level gap in there to show just how bad it is. like i said between me and the L40 it took about 100 yards before the difference was noticable.

the easiest way to prove it is this. find someone much lower level with the power unslotted, no swift, no using sprint and have them hover+r(run), then you hover+f(follow) and watch them pull away.

I'll look into it. It's entirely possible, but not intentional. If its true its slower with level, it will get fixed.

One of my test builds on the test server has hover unslotted.

And I can barely move.

Hover can be made fast with 4-6 SO's. It's fast sure, but it caps, and around lvl 32, it wont get faster, I had Hover 6 slotted for speed, from lvls 21-32, after that, fly was way faster with 2 slots.

Posted

I can't speak to an unslotted hover, but my main at 34 has it. I have it 4 slotted with fly enhancements, and I'm moving just a little slower than my 1 flight slotted fly.

Still wouldn't hurt to look into it.

Seems the same as ever to me... slooooooooowwwwwww.

as long as we're talking hover bugs...

Hover, teleport into a zone so you arrive zoning, and then watch as hover drops you like a rock until you turn it off for a couple seconds and reinstate it.

I have the distinct feeling that 'follow' actually makes you travel just a sliiight bit slower than the object that you are following, so you'd always be slower that way.

Personally, the only thing i'd trust is to both stand next to each other, target a distant map marker (IP would be good for this), do a 3-2-1-go and both head for it. Any difference in arrival of more than a few seconds (you'll never be able to start at *exactly* the same time) means that someone is going faster/slower etc.

I was thinking something very similar to this. Using something like /follow in a test to see who's faster could introduce a variable that would affect the result.

Have a Hover race instead. Of course this would be sort of like one of those Gas Mileage races that ends up being as exciting as watching laundry dry, but the results would be very reliable. The farther the point you are traveling to the more irrelevent the start timing becomes. If you both happen to start a second or two apart but are traveling one mile to a zone marker then the results will be obvious and that start advantage insignificant (especially with something as slow as Hover).

Yup, I had Teleport and Hover on my Defender (since TP without Hover isn't useful for more than just pure travel), so I'd always be TPing with Hover engage. If I Tp'd myself into a zoning point (viaduct between zones, guards, whatever), on the other side of the zone, Hover would drop and I'd fall the short distance to the ground. Then you'd have to click it once or twice to get it working again.

Just a minor annoyance, as it only happened during zoning and those are typically safe spots anyways. But yeah, was bugged.

Hover seem to get slower as you go up in levels . I coudl barely move at level 27 with it . Please look into that Geko .

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Hi Geko!

I've noticed this as well. When I click on hover right next to the ground, I'm barely crawling at lvl 29. I know I moved faster than that with hover at level 6, or even at level 12.

Have a nice day.

Well why they would call Hover a movement power at all is questionable. I took it only because it is the pre-requisite for Fly and when I do happen to have it on and try to move using it it can take me a long time to move any distance at all. I always wondered since you can let go of the movement button on fly and hover in place why they still give you the same minus to hit with fly active even though you are not moving ( I would love to see an extra power added to that set called Arial Manuvers or something that would allow for dodging attacks while flying thus making you harder to hit )

hover does make you harder to hit if you slot it for defense instead of flight speed. It is horribly slow and at lvl 42 with my blaster it's painful. I just have a fly/hover bind I use. I don't know if it gets slower but I do now at a lower level I felt like I was moving faster.

Heh...I can't remember the last time I actually needed to move in Hover. With Gnarly's Speed-On-Demand, the only time I'm in hover is when I'm standing (well, OK, floating) still.

Unless you're really trying to squeeze every last drop of Defense out that you can, there's really no point in slotting Hover with anything. Use it for the beneficial effect of sitting still in mid-air without using much End or incurring an Acc penalty, accept the 5% (6% if you slot one Defense SO in it, and you really might as well) Defense bonus as a freebie, use G's SOD for maneuverability, and spend those slots elsewhere. Remember, the more "doesn't need slotting" powers you have, the higher the average number of slots among your other powers can be...

I bugged it too...
With Siphion speed on the test serve when testing Issue 3, hover was much slower than on live. Now, it is slower on live too.

I haven't checked my hover speed in quite a while. Fortunately, they're looking into it to see if it's bugged.

If you want to really check your speed, I wouldn't compare against others. Just place a marker a few hundred yards out. Write down the starting distance, move toward it for 10 seconds and write down the stopping distance. Take the difference for how far you travelled in 10 seconds.

Then just remember DiRT (Distance = Rate * Time).

I know my lvl-34 flies at about 45mph while my teen hero is about 20mph. Haven't clocked my hover yet though.
