I’ve been using 'Gnarly's Speed on Demand Binds' for a week or more and I REALLY like them, but why-oh-why do I keep dropping out of air for no reason at all?

I'm not talking about the known 'feature' whereby if you try to use a power or inspire at the same time as you move while flying, I am talking about times when I am just moving about, usually manoeuvring to get a good angle on mobs, and BAM! I fall out of the air and straight into their laps!!

It’s happened to me six+ times so far this afternoon and it’s starting to get REALLY annoying!

Oops! You are accidentally listing two sprint powers.

For Prestige Power Surge this:
---------------------------------------------
::Sprint Power [Default = Sprint]
set sprint=%Sprint
::set sprint=%Super Speed
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Quick
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Rush
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Dash
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Surge
----------------------------------------------

Should become this:
---------------------------------------------
::Sprint Power [Default = Sprint]
::set sprint=%sprint
::set sprint=%Super Speed
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Quick
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Rush
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Dash
set sprint=%Prestige Power Surge
----------------------------------------------

The two colons ( :: ) act as a comment marker. Putting them in front of Sprint will cancel that power being put into the binds. I'll try and re-write the instructions to make more sense. Sorry about the confusion!

As near as I can tell this happens on occasion for all versions of the fly binds.

In my own use of the binds I have encountered this problem in times of high lag. My general observations are that this happens when you stop moving, which turns off FLY and should turn on HOVER. What I am encountering is when FLY turns off there is a lag before HOVER turns on. This generally results in me hitting the ground and then immediately having HOVER kick up.

If you are encountering something similar to what I just described, then there doesn't seem to be anything that can be done. These binds are VERY-VERY touchy when it comes to lag related issues.

Ok, I tried exactly what you posted and edited the bat file to look like this

::Sprint Power [Default = Sprint]
::set sprint=%sprint
::set sprint=%Super Speed
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Quick
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Rush
::set sprint=%Prestige Power Dash
set sprint=%Prestige Power Surge

Yet it still writes the line in the txt files like this-
"powexec_name Sprint$$powexec_name Prestige Power Surge$$powexec_name Hover$$powexec_name Fly$$bind_load_file c:\coh\binds\fly\autoflyxyz.txt"

Which activates my default Sprint instead of the Prestige Power Surge.
I still cant figure out whats wrong.

Thanks for any help

Hmm... sorry for the few days without replies, but the boards (from My Home) haven't show that there were any new posts on this thread... strange.

Anyway, let me see if I can answer a bunch of questions that haven't been answered already. Thanks to you regulars who have filled in in my stead, and know all the answers anyway

Boogs:

if i answer default (hit enter) for everything on the basic install program, except for auto-unqueue and the path, which on my machine is I:\CoH\binds, sprint turns on for me but doesnt turn off when i stop moving. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Any help is appreciated, i'd love to start using these!

[/ QUOTE ]
Did The Farmer's answer get this working for you? You need to do the bind_load_file command, then hit CTRL-M (or your Mode Toggle Key) to change into SoD. If things aren't working, try hitting CTRL-R (or your Reset Key).

Mr E-Man
[ QUOTE ]

What would happen if I use your program for a character that does NOT have flight? (To use for the ground SoD only.)

[/ QUOTE ]
They should work fine, just don't hit the fly key If you do get into fly mode, it'll be hard to tell, because you won't (obviously, if you don't have the power) be hovering or flying, but sprint will not turn on because it's trying to turn on fly instead. Otherwise everything should work fine. The newest Readme has some info on using these with characters that have other travel powers than Fly.

[ QUOTE ]

Will I need to re-run the program on my laptop or can I just copy the bind files to the laptop (of course using the same pathing as on my main computer)?

[/ QUOTE ]
Either should work, if you put them in the same folder, like you said. If you put them into a different folder, you'll have to re-do the /bind_load_file command, both when you first leave, and again on your return.

[ QUOTE ]

Your best bet for this it to choose a different path for each character - as in my case I use c:\cohbinds\ea - the ea sub-directory holds all binds for Energy Arc & I use c:\cohbinds\mre for Mr E-Man - you get the idea.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, unless you want them configured differently for different characters, then there is no need to have different paths and binds. However, if you want to configure them to use different keys or different options (ie. one that doesn't use unqueue for a sword scrapper), then you should have a different path/binds for each configuration.

RickS
[ QUOTE ]

I have noticed a quirk. In Normal mode, If I turn on auto-run, I can't stop auto-running with the back key, I have to use the forward key. Back just holds me still while I hold the key down. Actually, that's kind of useful, if I just get used to it.

However in SoD mode, backwards key does kill auto-run. It would probably be better if they were consistent.

[/ QUOTE ]
For my "normal" mode, I just used the commands as originally intended by CoH: your autorun key is simply ++forward and your back key is simply +backward. The whole point of them is to be simple in case there is a situation in which you don't want SoD (bad lag or something), or if SoD gets screwed up. If you're autorunning while in normal mode, you're missing the whole point of my binds

Lynuk, I think Ahzurdan is correct. Does your connection seem slow otherwise, and does this just happen sometimes? If so, maybe you could change to Normal Mode during those times? Again, like Ahzurdan stated, I don't think there is anything we can do about it otherwise.

Hey Ahzurdan, glad to see you're still lurking around between WoW sessions

"powexec_name Sprint$$powexec_name Prestige Power Surge$$powexec_name Hover$$powexec_name Fly$$bind_load_file c:\coh\binds\fly\autoflyxyz.txt"

Is just to turn OFF Sprint and the prestige power, and turn on fly or hover. Having Sprint in there too just makes suer it's turned OFF also, just in case it got turned on somehow. Maybe tell us the line in the autoRUNy.txt file? At least that power is getting into your binds now, where before it was being overwritten, so something is improved.
So it's still not working in-game?

Ok, my bad on the Y part, I forgot which letter he used for each axis. Anyway, that bind looks correct, to me, except if the binds turn off the prestige power the same way (with only a single call to surge AND sprint) as it'd turn Sprint on when you stop, and surge on when you're moving.

I better leave this one to Falstaff and Ahzurdan

you all know about the thing where the binds crash. Like when you hover when moving and fly when standing still thingy. Now, I've improved myself to not use the key-combinations that cause those kinds of problems, but still....

...anyways... one the fly/hover binds I downloaded had a reset.txt-file. The problem is this: I seem unable to create a macro with it. (figured I could have one button to load and one to reset the binds, you see, instead of typing the whole thing over and over. Especially when I really don't have time to type since I'm in battle and such)
What I do is
/macro reset "/bind_load_file c:\coh\moves\reset.txt"
It creates a button. Nice. But when executing that button I get "unknown command /bind_load_file"
I've tried with and without the " ", and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Even tried " " around the word that appears on the button.

I'm thinking I got the macro abit wrong. Or maybe you can't macro binds?

Thanks for any help/clarification on this.

-edit-

d'oh!
I should RTFM. (read the manual, for those that didn't understant that acronym)
The bind I'm using has a built-in off/on function.

...if only I used my head before thinking.

er.... you know what I mean.

Carry on, nothing to see here

Actually, with the way that it is coming out in your examples it should be working.

Here is what I would suggest:

Start with the basic batch file from Falstaff's page and perform the following change:

powexec_name Sprint changed to powexec_name %primary%

then change:

::set sprint=%Prestige Power Surge to: set primary=%Prestige Power Surge

Then make whatever changes you want for key assignments and such, and run the job.

When you get into the game perform the following command while standing still with no travel powers on:

bind_load_file c:/coh/binds/run/norun.txt

That should fix you. If you are still having problems post the contents of your NORUN.TXT file and I will take a look at it.

Your problem is the "/" in the body of the macro. I know you said you got things working, but I wanted to let you know what you were doing wrong, for next time. When you're creating binds and macros, you omit the "/" on all commands that are to be executed by the macro. So

/macro reset "/bind_load_file c:\coh\moves\reset.txt"

should have been

/macro reset "bind_load_file c:\coh\moves\reset.txt"

That's it.

Skybert,

We've come a long way throughout this post! Check out the latest versions of binds... mine and Ahzurdan's latest break VERY infrequently. With mine, I can play all evening without a break. The only things you have to be careful of now are holding down a key when zoning, and releasing it "in the middle", or holding down a key when typing in the chat window and hitting return before you release it. Learn not to do those two things, or just hit reset if you do (a key currently built into the bind, no need to create a macro). Oh, and also don't activate powers when just starting or stopping movement... fly deliberately. Beside these 3 things, the 'modern' binds are pretty breakproof.

Now only if we could actually get an official version to this type of movement... it seems almost like it should be put in, considering it would make fly a significant amount more fun, and it would help save endurance... they could add more flying mobs or something too...

Gnarly,

I don't know if you've heard of Hero Logger (http://www.benziegler.com/HeroLog/default.htm) but what it does is to log information on your Hero. To do this it requires some keys to contain 'copychat_t 999'.

I, and maybe others who enjoy both your Bind and Hero Logger, would appreciate an option for adding '$$copychat_t 999' to the end of all Jump-commands to enable the use of both things.

Sorry... I tried to catch up on the development on this bind by reading all the pages of this particular thread but.... good god!
Was it ever resolved to have the original bind modified so that two direction buttons pressed at the same time would function correctly? Or was that topic still under debate?
If it was actually solved does anyone know the post in which it's listed? Thanks a bunch!

Actually, I haven't heard about this... it copies the chat logs out, and then parses them to extract info? Anyway, if you need keys to do this, I don't see why you couldn't just put them on different keys than your movement keys, or other keys used in my binds. My binds don't bind everything, just movement. So if you have a bind bound to 'P', and don't configure my program to do anything with P, then P should function the way it did.

Syndre,

Yes, that problem is resolved... as I said a few posts back, we've come a long way since then Follow the link at the bottom for my most recent version, or read backwards up, and you'll soon find a link to Ahzurdan's binds.

Your binds are awesome!

I have a request: would it be too much of a hassle to modify your program to have multiple, duplicate keys for some (if not all) functions?

Specifically, I use the 'A' key and button4 both for autorun, because sometimes I only use the mouse, and other times I just use the keyboard. I had to add this by hand (and Visual Studio macro) to all 257 (or so?) files. I imagine that there is an application for multiple keys for follow as well.

Also, is it related to the code that you have to have a key for fly mode and then another key for run mode? Would it be possible to have one key toggle between flying and running?

Adding multiple direction keys just isn't practical, as adding even one means doubling the number for files. As for adding mode keys and such (which is what I think you mean), that would be doable, but it's a lot of work for what would only be a handful (if that) using it. It adds to the program's complexity, instructions, size etc. I'm still open to new ideas, but I'm resistant to add too much that isn't useful for many people. At some point I have to stop making options for everybody's setups, and you need to adapt your fingers to learn the new way

But if your fingers are really stubborn, you're not completely out of luck... I did include the .bas BASIC file for a reason. Feel free to play with that, and change it to fit your own specific play style. Keep in mind, changing the .bas doesn't do anything until you compile it. Download Liberty Basic (www.download.com is one place you can get it). Or, you can do as you already did, it sounds like, and use a separate macro or script to add to the binds.

As for having one key for Run and one for Fly... Read the directions. You can set them both to the same key if you want a toggle - it's been that way since 1.0 Just enter "X" for both Run and Fly modes.

Let me guess... you chose not to use Unqueue, the command that puts away a drawn weapon? As soon as I saw your post, I realized that it would cause your problem.

Ok, if you're a super speeder, or if you have a prestige power, AND you don't want to use unqueue because you draw either a sword or something else, then do this:

1 When asked for your primary power, hit enter to choose NONE.

2 When asked for secondary power, type in "SUPER SPEED" (without quotes, but replace with prestige power if you want to use that insead of SS or Sprint) and hit enter.

3 When asked for your base path, choose a different directory than that used for your other characters, maybe c:\coh\charname. Run the in-game bind_load_file command to point your speeder to this new set of binds, but leave your other characters pointing to the old one.

4 Choose No when asked if you want to use unqueue, as before.

What allowed me to call sprint AND superspeed, was that the powexecs were followed by the unqueue, so even if sprint was off, and calling it queued it to be turned on, the unqueue would remove it.

Try that, and see if it works for you.

Yup. Change them all. I would suggest using WordPad or NotePad. Just do a "Replace All".

My binds were originally set up to use SuperSpeed if you had it, and Sprint if you didn't. Falstaff made a change to allow you to replace SuperSpeed with whatever power you wanted, but it left Sprint as it was.

What these changes will do is allow you to specify a power to use instead of Sprint. Since we are changing the way it works throughout the binds, we need to do a "Replace All".

Sound good?

Actually, I am going to be putting up a new version of my binds a little later today. I have made some updates to fix some small things, and I also made the following changes:

Instead of specifying run powers in the binds themselves, they now toggle on and off the first power in the second tray. I just swap Sprint and SuperSpeed in there when I need to. I did this as I wanted my binds to use Sprint when indoor, and SuperSpeed when outdoors. This also allows me to have SuperSpeed be manually toggled for those situations where you are using the agro radius reduction on SuperSpeed to attempt single pulls. This would help in your situation as you could just move your prestige power to this slot to use it with the binds.

I also changed the "default" key arrangement, so that F still toggles Hover on and off (for catching myself when jumping off things), and TILDE still being FOLLOW.

Great. I think I will wait till you post the new version instead of switching commands in all the run.txt files.

Thanks again for this.

**EDIT- Ok, just to see how it works, I did what you said and used "Replace All" and put in "primary" for "sprint" (it was alot easier to do than I thought) and then let the.bat file wite up the files.

For test reasons I did 2 folders. Binds and Sbinds. The Binds folder had everything at default (sprint) while the Sbinds folder is the one that has all the altered "Primary" (Prestige Power Surge) commands.
Loaded up the game and did /bind_load_file c:\coh\sbinds\run\norun.txt

The Prestige Power Surge still will not activate.

Ran /bind_load_file c:\coh\binds\run\norun.txt and Sprint works just fine, tried to re-load the Sbinds files, but Prestige Power Surge still wont activate using the .txt files (though it will work if I click on it manually).
Dont understand what the problem is.
