LOL just stopped being lazy and tested it out. But nice to know that mist and fog are in the same boat..
thank you both -
Sorry, my mind is blank about this. But does Shadow Fall suffer from Defense suppression once you attack. I'm going to assume yes like everything else, but for some retarded reason I needed to ask because I am just unsure.

The issue I personally see with Trip Mine is on a blaster it is limited. Again this is definitely because I am spoiled on my Traps characters. On my Traps characters I can place them AT WILL limited by recharge only.
Whereas on my Blaster I can only place it before a fight or sometimes get lucky and place one during a fight. But the lack of defenses is what screws over a blaster in the sense that trying to place one at melee range during an active fight can definitely be disastrous and cost you your life. Further even if you survived the failure still cost you endurance. End result your going to be limited to 2 or 3 attempts before you have to give up that folly because your endurance is too low. Try to place a Trip mine on Caltrops for a test and see. Just clicking the power will drain endurance from you.
I hate to say this but that other super hero game had a nice Trip mine power that can be used here for blasters.
Or make Trip mine 2 modes. Placed or Tossed. Placed does more damage and Tossed does less but recharges faster.
Time Bomb pretty much everyone has mentioned this make it double ringed. You place it and now you get the green ring telling you its ready. You click the power again to set it off. Maybe make it linked to Trip mine in the sense if you place a Time Bomb near Trip mines they are linked together and go off when Time Bomb is triggered. Still same damage but its one BIG BOOM.
Now lets see how the forum police cry about you bringing up this thread again. I can hear the sirens now. .... I gotta jet -
Quote:Your choices are pretty much Musculature or Agility. But when you start looking the recharge is not going to be that much compared to the DPS increase. So for the most part you will probably go Musculature.Thank you so much for the reply. I'll take a look at the newer build and see what I need to do to make it work.
I've only just done the Incarnate mission so I'm now in the process of picking up the items to craft those... not that I know what to craft as yet but at least I'm gathering up materials. -
I pick up OG when I can, as was mentioned for a Traps mastermind it is AMAZING. OG, poison traps and the lockdown proc in poison traps. I can't think of more ways to lock down a full group of minions on 4/8 setting. Heck it works well on Incarnate stuff. I stand in front of incoming mobs during Baf AV fights so they get stunned as I attack the AVs.
I have it on my newly respec Traps AR Defender as well.
If you can slot it and it works with the build then I would take it. It is really one of those decent powers in this game. It does what it suppose to and the risk does equal the reward. -
Hey Raterro
This is my current build
The Epic / Ancillary pool you can pick what you want. It has no effect on Defense numbers. So you can go MU Mastery if you like. Which I know some do for the hold for Assbot attacks. Personally I like Oppressive Gloom since it locks down many mobs and combined with Poison Traps and the Lockdown Proc in poison Traps I am really not dealing with much but bosses. That is pretty much my target of my provokes.
Its a bit more higher end because of some changes the way you can convert IOs I can now afford to get the Gladiator IO and Panacea IOs.

This is what I have for comparison. I redid the build to make some comparisons and picked up Maneuvers, Assault and Tactics. My Endurance usage increased, my DPS increased by about 10 points and I picked up better status resistance numbers. My Defenses decreased a bit and I had to rework IOs to obtain Defense cap with Hide Suppressed.
End result I like this build better.
Alpha slot wise I could have went with Agility which would really kick up my defenses real close to Incarnate defense numbers. One purple would put me over Incarnate defense numbers when including Hide suppressed. With the debuffs and hit buffs incarnate mobs offer I would guess it is a plus. But beyond the defense numbers the recharge did nothing for me. It cut 1 second off a few powers at most. So in the end I went with Musculature for the overall DPS increase.
The heal ( kunji-In Sha ) is on a 20 second recharge. I could either go Barrier for the resistance numbers or Rebirth for the heal.

First off hats off to PsychicKitty for being so diplomatic and super, super kind.
Now the rude awakening.
By looking at the build it is fairly obvious you do not understand how defenses work or what they are. You see purple IOs and think World of Warcraft, thus it must be better. Sadly your wrong.
Look there is nothing wrong with that everyone has been there at one time. But you need to take the time to understand so you know what your doing Or even understand what someone else is doing to your build to make it better. Otherwise you could have a retard like me post a build and then have another retard agree how great it is. End result you have yet another bad build on your hand and your back here asking the same questions.
Ninjitsu is one of the few stalker sets that can obtain defense cap. Fully Positional for that matter. I would go for it.
The way I see this build it is good for the first strike but after that if you didn't kill the mobs you will be dead from the return Alpha.
Purple IOs are DPS and Recovery and Recharge. If you have everything else covered and can use them, by all means do so.
At a minimum you could go mid 30s and rely on purple inspirations to gain defense cap which will free up a some powers and such which will allow you to slot a few purple IO sets. I think you went purple happy here and probably don't know you will be spending BILLIONS upon BILLIONS for this build when cheaper will do better and last longer. Unless its PvP, but even then you have no resistances for PvP.
Read the links in my signature if you want to learn about that stuff and you can do a search on this forum for my build for comparison. I don't post much here so it should be found easily. -
Look I'm not gonna tell you how to make a build Psylenz. You have been here long enough and I know you know what your doing. The only thing I can tell you is at 47 you can slot IOs for lvl 50. I would go range defense cap and use Darkest night for Melee and AOE defense cap. Your lucky in the sense you have Fade as a back up if Darkest Night anchor drops or runs off. I hate the recharge on Darkest night. Waiting those few seconds for me on my Dark Electric feels like forever sometimes and sadly it is as I face plant sometimes because it dropped.
But you are so lucky to have Fade and you can have it perma if you want. Your almost perma now with just Plain IOs. Add in Dark Servant with its debuffs. Your really, really killing your enemy with hit debuffs on this build.
I have no clue what Umbra Beast offers you. But I would image yet more hit debuffs.
Again I am pretty darn positive that going Range defense cap with Darkest night finishing off Melee and AOE you will be super solid. Again as I mentioned above I have it on my Dark Electric and I can solo 4/8 assuming the anchor stays around and alive long enough. Usually the Twilight Grasp keeps me alive until I can DN another mob. You are much, much more set up then I am with this power set.
Just stand back and take a look with a new pair of eyes. -
Here is another Defense guide by Arcanaville
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=121258
Again sorry for the long speech. I'm a much better public speaker then I am a writer. Any of my writing is more technical and to the point so no fluff or feeling in it.
My first defense cap try was a Dark Electric Defender that Adeon Hawkwood and BioSpark pretty much helped me out with. Oddly enough I went the route of -ToHit Debuff which was tougher but I have to say I learn A LOT because of it.
Dechs post on defenses is something at first I skimmed over. I always say it started off like hearing charlie browns teacher talking. I read some words but then skimmed over because I got bored the first few times around. After some failed attempts I was like WTF this stuff is all wrong and stupid, of course I was the stupid one. I then took it a bit more serious and spent about 1 solid hours opening up numerous windows and Mids and playing around with builds to see "those" numbers. Then it all kicked in and after many OHHH, OHHH, OMG, How stupid I was. Since then I am a Defense cap NUT. I get the whole resistances thing but I would rather die to defense cascade failure and not have resistances then not be maxed out. I have done what I consider many amazing things with defense cap and eating a few oranges when needed. Fighting 2 AVs to unlock my Alpha slot because I didn't understand mission settings correctly was one of them. It took me forever I think 45 minutes or an hour. Only after I exited and complained in RWZ did someone say you can say no AVs in the settings. I almost fell out of my chair. Yet another skimming issue, again my fault.
Arcanaville does go into -ToHit Debuff info in that link.
Nutshell giving the mobs a hit debuff like from dark or time is equal to getting defenses. The issue with Hit debuffs is you need to touch the mob or put some sort of toggle on them. If your not touching them or not in that AOE range or move away then they are not affected, thus can usually hit you more often. What I usually do is I make my builds Range defense cap and then use the Hit debuff to add on to my defense to obtain Melee and AOE. Big bosses usually have PBAOE so it helps out.
The game always picks your best defense automatically.
When you see builds Like Linea Alba, you pick them up and save them. Rename them so you know.
As Doomguide says play around with Mids. The BIG thing I will tell you make sure the button on top right says PvE NOT PVP.. I did that on my Robot FF Mastermind and it screwed me all up. You can test this out yourself and see. But please make sure you put it back.
From reading Dechs posting you can see at defense cap it takes about 13 swings before a regular mob can hit you. So my incentive is to kill the regular mobs before they reach 5 or 10. It's much easier soloing bosses or several bosses once all the other mobs are not around causing confusion. -
Quote:Silly question but does it still work after it wears off and you use it again ? Assuming those same pets are still alive ?Actually, to correct some information...
Assault and Control hybrids DO work but only if you summon your pets while the toggle is running.
Or do you have to resummon the pets again while a new assault is running to get the same benefit again for them ?
As you can all imagine resummoning the pets every time your hybrid recharges back up can be a pain. -
@ Recluse90,
Do you know what defense cap is ? Do you know how to obtain it ?
Do you know how -ToHit Debuff works ? How that works with your defenses ? The weaknesses behind using such powers that have -ToHit Debuffs ?
Do you know about streak breaker hits that this game has in place ?
If your answer to many of these questions is no then you should consider reading up on the links in my Signature.
Further there is a Mids tutorial in the players help section which does go over some of the tips and tricks with mids that is really not documented unless you have spent the time to read some of the olds posts on the mids website. For example you can click on a IO that is slotted in a power and then use the plus or minus key to increase the level of that IO. So for those that want to have really accurate numbers and do not have a 50 IO slotted but a 47 they can place a level 45 IO and then highlight it and hit the plus sign 2x to make the IO 47. I use that option a lot when I place a 50 IO and use slot enhancers to make it 55 to see what benefits I would get from it, if any.
The simple point I am getting at is once you understand the mechanics around the game every power set you come across you will see how to implement certain powers to obtain that goal your looking to get.
As a further example, Lets talk DP Time. Specifically Linea Alba build. Its probably down below or on the 2nd or 3rd page. I know you can search it and find it for sure. Here you have a build that soloed a Task Force. Honestly personally my only contention I would have with such a build were if it has purple sets that I cannot afford, how can I dumb it down for a guy like me in my price range. Or I like that she has hover but I don't like it, so how can I change the build keeping the same numbers but have another power instead.
So you have a really good build to work off and someone has invented this wheel for you. No need to reinvent it. Again personally my goal when making a build is how can I make it better then the next person or what am I lacking that this person can fix for me. Then I make my choices for my build and accept any losses from recharge or regeneration or recovery or defenses or whatever that suits me and my play style.
The reason I bring this up is because of this line in your first post.
Quote:This game sadly does not allow you to have a concept and then optimize your build around that concept. So you can't have a super jumping teleporting, super speed Imp that is defense capped. At the end of the day your will have to pick powers that Optimize the build that will go against your concept. That is unless you want a defense capped toon that happens to be made of stone and has stone weapons or is super strong. But you get my point.Originally Posted by Recluse90I usually just think of a backround and pick powers similar to my imagined character. I don't know how to pick powers that optimize specific abilities for the best in-game benefits
I can understand where your coming from because I was in your shoes years ago. The only difference is I woke up a bit sooner then you did. Today I have an idea of what I want and I make builds based around this idea I then create the build to obtain this goal.
Now to make it clear to you, for me this goal is Defense cap. Either full positional defense cap or typed or something, based on the build and how it will interact with mobs. My next goal is some decent regeneration to get back some hit points at a faster rate then normal and try to have my endurance recovery at least 2 points higher then what I spend. If not I look to have some power that can sap endurance from mobs and give it to me. This compensates for the lower endurance values.
Once I achieve all of this I then think or rework the theme/concept of the toon. Because this is really the only real way, if your looking to optimize a build.
And if your going to spend money on IOs then I can only imagine this is what your looking to do. Otherwise there is not point. You can run with SOs on a build and survive 0/0 setting.
But if your looking to really test yourself and the build then your going to have to Optimize the build and you will be able to do 4/8 settings or do what linea alba did and solo a TF.
This at least was the fire for me. In the past, I would run on a team and I would see someone with the same power set as me on the team, but this player was making his toon look like a god where I was chump and could not do anything near as he or she could. I was like WTF ? What am I doing wrong. Someone mentioned defense cap. I was like whats defense cap? They said here read this. Then I went OHHHH MY GOSH, I was missing this all these years ???. I spent the next month or so reworking all my build into this new defense cap thing.
Today I have 3 pages and starting a 4th of toons with about 90% of them level 50 with IOs, defense capped in one way, shape or form and Incarnate slotted with at least one full set of T4 powers in each incarnate slot. I like that I can just about bring out any toon and be able to solo 4/8 and on some even do DA incarnate on 4/8 with limited deaths. It allows me to be a more then useful part of a team. It allows me the chance to step in and take the lead if needed because maybe the tank suddenly died and I need to hold aggro until he or she comes back for example.
Another limit I have is no purple sets. I make my builds where anyone can afford them with a reasonable amount of savings and investing. I might drop in one or 2 purple IOs but only because I had them or was able to get them on the cheap.
Trust me take the time to understand the game mechanics and it will feel like your cheating but without the fear of getting banned because your cheating.
Sorry for being long winded. But that's me. -
Assuming the number is 22%, do you think that maybe its a bug in the sense you do NOT have the 22% but it is still giving you the ring.
-
You can add in Agility Alpa Incarnate for even more recharge and still be dead fast because you have no defenses.
From reading some of these i24 changes it seems that T3 power will have a range increase which means Empty Clips will be 80 feet. You don't have it.
Energy Manipulation coolest power is Boost Range. Again might not be the key power but it is up there. It make snipe attacks SUPER SNIPE attacks. It makes regular attack Snipe attacks.
Like other secondaries it has Build Up and the rest are melee attacks with some decent stuns and out right one shot kill from Total Focus. The big thing about EM is the ability to combine Aim, Build Up and Boost Range and then open up with 1 or 2 attacks killing ( arresting ) a large number of mobs before they even reach you.
The issue is DP has nothing of the above. The biggest power from DP is Hail of Bullets which is boosted by Build Up but gets zero benefit from Boost Range.
i24 will make some changes to Conserve Power but again it's nothing that will help out DP anymore then it will help out another primary.
Personally I think it is one secondary that offers less to DP compared to other secondaries. Whereas Assault Rifle would benefit from EM much more.
Yet another thing is the use of purple IO sets. I think beyond the recharge they offer nothing to you. I think its over kill honestly.
What I would do is consider trying to go for range defense followed by Smash and Lethal Defense.
This build gives you Range defense cap and 39 in Smash Lethal with the assistance of Alpha incarnate. Again the impression I am getting is the new i24 conserve power will be a toggle that will increase regeneration and recovery so it will help out your endurance issue. What you can also do is accept lower values or use enhancement boosters and put them in selective places like in Stamina and in some endurance IOs on toggles to increase and lower endurance respectively.
How I consider this build would work is your would be fighting at range along with the pets and then fire off HOB when mobs come charging in as a finisher. Pop Boost Range for 30 second duration and fire off your AOEs followed up by your single target attacks then HOB when the mobs finally converge on you.

This is a port over from my DP Dark. I honestly thought my DP Dark was gonna suck moose butt, but leveraging the PBAOE and Barrier incarnate I am soloing DA on 4/8 with my DP Dark. I thought the Knives of Vengeance where going to give me trouble, but it seems I had more issues with those Kheldian police mobs then anything else. I needed to wipe a few times to figure out what I was doing wrong. Once I got their M.O. down it was much easier.
End result Water does have some real nice AOEs that work well with Dark.
On my DP Dark my fights start off with Spring Attack followed by Soul Drain and an AOE attack. Spring attack knocks downs foes a decent amount of the time. If I could get my hands on a KD procs for more chance to KD it might be better, but I'm okay with it either way. This is pretty much how I am going to do it with Water as well. Currently not at level 50. I do Whirlpool followed by Water Burst to get the KD. It seems Whirlpool forces mobs to run out of it. At 50 I can see Geyser being put into the mix and when that is down just add in Dark Pit for the stun to keep them in the AOE. Combined with the boost that Soul Drain gives Death Shroud things end up dead pretty quick.
I went with Agility because I want Geyser and a few other key attacks up as much as possible. In this instance I think recharge will beat out the DPS that musculature gives. As a simple example, My Geyser is at 59 seconds @ 461 DPS and yours is at 69 seconds @ 506 DPS. End result over 2 minute period I am dishing out 922 and your doing 506.
But you can pull up the builds side by side and make your own choices and changes.

Basically used my Robot Traps and changed it to Beast.
I removed Soul Mastery powers in place I added the attack powers needed to get those fortify pack stacks. I guess its a big deal for the set and the pets.
Just put them side by side and make your comparisons.

Range cap hover blaster with Cloaking device suppressed. You need to add a few slot enhancers to Target Drone to obtain Perma snipe as your at 21.9 currently.
Judgment - Any range because your hovering. Maybe go for the stun component in Fire or Ion.
Interface - Reactive more dps.
Lore - A pet that can fly would be nice so they can fight from range as well or attack mobs that fly up to get you for some personal protection.
Destiny - Rebirth for the Heal and Regen increase..
Hybrid - Again for DPS go Assault.
This build is pretty much my AR Device build just swapped out for Archery..
I'm soloing 4/8 though those Knives type DA mobs can be a pain and I need to move around with them. Great thing about Archery is you can fire ROA out of line of sight.
ROA is up every 16 seconds
Gun Drone is up every 50 seconds with a 90 second duration. End result you get 2 Gun Drones out for 40 seconds.

Quote:I don't know I asked around yesterday on how long a complete cave run takes to clear and I was told 40 to 45 minutes from about 4 to 5 players hawking their toon for private runs.Dont know y you want blaster farm nothing beats SS/fire brute +8/54 against fire mobs
I just tested it out with my AR Device and did it in 45 minutes. My TA Arch Defender will noticeably take a bit longer I can tell just from testing it out. My Shield Electric seems to do it in about 40. Granted was my really first time doing to so I didn't have a system down on what to do and where to go.
But nonetheless unless I ran into 4 players that just suck, I don't see much of a difference in the run times for that statement to seem too valid to me. I'm certainly not gonna gripe if it takes a SS/Fire brute 15 minutes less to do then me on a blaster. Especially since when you compare builds the Brute probably paid a several BILLION more then I did for 100s of million build. End result I have probably 5 toons that can run that mish for the price of that one Brute. -
Quote:Answering both posts.I normally avoid discussions of "the best" but I do think there's a winner here.
My vote for best Tankermind goes to something/Pain Dom, probably Bots/PD so you can get the bubble from ProtBot. Demons/PD would be good too for more resists, though I think you'd get more from the bubble in this case.
I haven't worked out a build, but it's easy enough to build up some level of defense, very respectable resists, including hard capping s/l, serious regen and a self heal. I don't think any other MM secondary has as many layers of mitigation. Get Clarion to avoid mezzes and you've got an honest-to-gosh tank.
Honestly it might just be a personal issue for me, but I have a Demon Pain and a Robot Traps, build data enclosed. Robot Traps does have some issues in DA Incarnate, but my Demon Pain gets crushed. I can survive personally for the most part to run away because of my high personal regeneration on my Pain, but my Demons get crushed. Without a doubt my Robot Traps fairs much better and less issues.
Of course on top of those resistance numbers add in the numbers from this thread. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...93&postcount=5

I just was messing around with this same set on Mids. I did NOT look at these other builds. But I can tell you the specifics.
It was range defense cap hover blaster style. Spiritual Incarnate brings both RA's to around 50 ( or 60 secs ) second down time. So the recharge was at 140 seconds I think for both and the duration was 90 seconds. Regen was in the 800% range and endurance recovery was in the 8.4 range. All the attacks where slotted to be useful. Basically all the AOEs where 5 slotted with Positron for the recharge bonus and all the other ST attacks where 6 slotted with Thunderstrike. Heals were 5 slotted with Doc wounds for recharge bonus as well. Geyser was 6 slotted with Defender ATO lower end. Melee and AOE were in the 20% range.
If it sounds like this build would suit your need then I will redo and repost. -
This is my current Traps AR I just respeced for incoming i24.
It incorporates the perma snipe ability and I've added in Oppressive Gloom for even more control in melee range.
Triage Beacon is on a 60 second recharge for 30 second duration of double Triage.
It is of course positional defense cap and can solo 4/8.

I'm gonna side with the Ignite is hard to replace.
Beyond what was mentioned, which is great. I use it on myself. When I am soloing or know I am gonna pull aggro. I fire off a few range attacks and then drop Ignite on myself or just in front of me for the incoming mobs that want to punch me in the face. I always imagine the guy going "OH CARP" as he runs into Ignite and then tries to run off as I drop caltrops down on top of Ignite to slow him down. End result slooow mow running death.. -
Time to hate Plainguy,
It's a bad build. Tons of money for nothing straight and simple. No defenses and no resistances. Any thing you do because of Dark being so PBAOE will force you into melee range with a Primary that is very much Range.
End result no matter how you slice this your gonna be screwed. Start off at range and fire off Full Auto. You have no defenses or Resistances to protect you from the retaliation. Start off at melee to get that really great buff from Soul Drain your screwed because you have no defenses or resistances and AR is more of a range attack power set. End result your gonna be missing out of much of your damage because the cone will be very short in melee range.
IF you have not done the build yet I would suggest something that is more melee centric with Dark like Dual Pistols.
The only way I can see you fixing this is either via Mace Mastery for S/L Defense cap. That might be still IFFY..
Or get Oppressive Gloom from Soul Mastery to stun mobs coming in at you. Assuming you could get your Range Defense close to the cap. I don't think these Power Sets slot enough +Range Defense IO sets though.
I would suggest reading up on the stuff in my Signature as it will help you out understand some of the concepts/mechanics needed for game character building. -
Nice build.. Very affordable for anyone. Its the kind of build someone could make and solo 4/8. Add in Incarnates and it is a very reliable and solid build solo or for ANY team.
If Soul Drain is anything like it is on SD on Dark for Blasters that DPS increase is very high and very nice. Mine is a DP Dark Blaster and I start off with Soul Drain before firing off any attacks. Even the PBAOE in dark does something like 30dps with soul drain active.
If you put the Defender ATO in Trip Mine I notice you shave one second off H.O.B.. The DPS does not show up on the bottom of Trip Mine but I do notice the DPS percentage does increase as well.
I do notice your Regen drops 10%, but its literally about .13 of a point. So your going from 21.36 to 21.23 in regeneration.
I could start looking to tweak stuff up but you know it gets the job done honestly. Sometimes these tweaks are over kill.
