The search function is failing me right now, so apologies if this has been covered.

Hey all, I'm currently rolling an AR/dev and loving it. I made a build in preperation for i24 with high amounts of recharge/ranged defense and i'm having a problem with just -ONE- power.

Ignite.

I can't find any real good uses for this power, so im what you think a good replacement would be. I mostly solo, but occasionally team.

The following is what i'm considering. (Build below)

1: Keep ignite (On the off chance i'm wrong about it.)

2: Grab m30 grenade

3: Grab LRM rocket

4: Grab another power i overlooked

I like ignite, very useful against EBs and AVs and also immobilized bosses.

M30 grenade is a standard AoE, always fun and the chance for KB adds modest control.

LRM is fun and does good things in an AoE. A bit long on the recharge, but its damage level is high enough to warrant that.

Burnout is fun, if you can stand the end penalty (and with the new sustain power, I imagine you can). Full Auto on Full Auto could be giggle inducing. This could free some slots, maybe for more in Tough and/or a Kismet in Combat Jumping (possibly a fly speed in Hover).

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.

ignite is a terrific power for AR.
it does something besides smashing/lethal damage, it does a lot of it, the fear is helpful mitigation and /dev has two powers that let you leverage it fairly well- caltrops & web grenade.

I didn't have space for it in my range defense capped build, but I miss it.
In the old days I had caltrops slotted for slow and a caltrop patch + ignite did appreciable damage to spawns. And of course it was absolute death on anything I could web.

M30 I've never been a big fan of.

LRM Rocket is terrific, and very thematic for an ar/dev. Great aoe power.

I'm gonna side with the Ignite is hard to replace.

Beyond what was mentioned, which is great. I use it on myself. When I am soloing or know I am gonna pull aggro. I fire off a few range attacks and then drop Ignite on myself or just in front of me for the incoming mobs that want to punch me in the face. I always imagine the guy going "OH CARP" as he runs into Ignite and then tries to run off as I drop caltrops down on top of Ignite to slow him down. End result slooow mow running death..

Ignite is one of the best powers in the entire set - at least, I'm pretty sure it does the most damage.

It works more like Caltrops.

It has no kb/kd/ku component so no joy there. What it does do is large amounts of Afraid and Damage. The trick is to lock whatever foe your trying to roast in place or as you might guess from the use with caltrops comments make it otherwise very hard for them to leave the aoe patch. And that's one of the rubs of Ignite, it's a very small AoE patch (as in 4 foot radius small) that foes will try very hard to get out of. But if you can keep the targets in the patch it does a fairly obscene amount rapid DoT damage (as in over 600 damage on my AR/Dev).

In this sense it probably shares more with a Scrappers Burn patch with the same issue many scrappers have (things run away from it) only with an even smaller aoe radius and no front loaded damage but significantly more damage overall.
