  1. That actually looks fairly inexpensive. One purple set, but it's not one of the more popular ones. Three LoTG, Miracle, Numina's uniques, but those are fairly easily attainable with Hero Merits. A couple of the Cloud Senses might be pricey too, haven't checked in a while. Dunno about the Hami-Os (I have never slotted one).

    Neat build.
  2. Out of my 50s, I seem to default to my Ill/TA blue-side, and my WM/SD brute red-side for more mindless, easy-care play.

Ill/TA: I see Illusion as being a bit of a mastermind set where you don't have to play the tankermind and you don't really have to pay attention to the health of your minions (unlike, oh, Mercs). You just have to be somewhat aware of when PA is about to run out. With hasten and bonuses I have them almost perma, so that's not a huge issue. If there are particularly nasty foes (Master Illusionists?), just apply a couple of confuses before going in and relax.

TA may not be as strong as Rad, but it has good utility. Nice multiple-foe debuffs in Acid Arrow and Disruption arrow, an extra hold with Ice Arrow, Spectral Terror for added fun. I could handle more, but have been playing on +0/+2 for tip missions (hardly have to bother with Oil Slick or Disruption). I'd still play higher if not for some of the crazy ambushes. Sit back, let the pets do most of the work, hold/blast (Fire Epic).

WM/SD: Bonuses have gotten my defenses to the point where they are pretty sturdy, outside of certain groups in large enough numbers (Longbow Riflemen/Minigun can lead to defense failure if not careful). Good for lots of non-stop bashing.

I have a DB/WP scrapper who can also mow through mobs, but she seems to get into a little more trouble than my brute.
  3. I had no idea - thanks for posting this.

    Why no farming?

  5. I am playing the following:

    * lvl 50 Ill/TA - same as usual, tip missions and short arcs. He works just fine as-is, may not bother to respec for a good while after I19.

    * lvl 32 KM/EA brute - getting stamina on him was really a necessity I thought. Decision was made well before inherent stamina was announced. I may decide to respec into the Fighting pool, but that would be adding a couple of costly toggles. With Energy Drain though, might be able to pull it off (loaded up with LoTG, should).

    * lvl 22 Peacebringer - mostly teaming with my son's warshade. I had planned on taking the fitness pool, but starting at level 20 (I don't think I had Stamina taken until 26); I amended my planned build and took it out. I probably won't make as much progress with this one anyway I figure. When I19 comes it will be a nice bonus.

    Why no farming?

    Two city-themed ideas:

    1. Trash collection. The streets in some areas are so darned dirty. We heroes should strive for a cleaner city, and do our duty to pick up some litter now and then. Maybe once a week we upsize that to bags and dumpsters. They could pop up on set routes.

    2. Helping panhandlers. It could even be a game. Find the Panhandler! Someone finds one, the next one spawns somewhere else. The prize if you find one? You get to donate your inf to the Panhandler!
  7. Hrm, I don't think I've ever heard the destroyables.

When I switched machines last I noticed that I couldn't hear standard glowies well and I switched the sound to one that sounds like a bit like a submarine ping. It's helped.
  8. I don't know what exactly PB needs or if it needs a buff (could be that my playstyle needs one), I haven't played one often enough. My son even asks, "Daddy, why don't you ever play a Peacebringer?"

I played an old one I had this weekend though. Was just a bit away from 18 and had a boatload of patrol XP. Got to 18 no problem, and made my way to 19. I played solo much of the afternoon yesterday, just running standard missions, no bosses. And...egads.

I think I died more on that character just going from 19 to 20 than I had TOTAL on just about any other character. Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration. But I must have been defeated at least two dozen times (I had picked up the Resuscitation temp power, it was available maybe one out of four?).

It seemed like every group of mobs had the ability to take me down. Three +1 minions, three EVEN minions, Gardvords, Ancestral Spirits, Vampyrs, etc. I did my best and used insps when I had them, but that wasn't all the time. Some missions I'd have to rest/Rest after every encounter. Nevermind the couple of times where the spawn was Ink Man (mez), Quantum Red Ink, Sorcerer (so if I'm not asleep, I go after the Sorc while getting pounded by the Quant, or I hit the Quant only to...have him healed).

I'm bullheaded, so I kept playing until I hit 20. But afterward I remembered why I didn't play him - it just wasn't enjoyable. I *hope* that changes at higher levels.
  9. I've been cashing hero merits on my 32 the past couple days, and I'm not so sure it matters all that much. My gut says that if folks have had a bid at say, level 35 long enough that they'll check the entire range every now and then. I know when I was looking for 37s for a couple of sets I certainly did.

I'd personally rather roll at 32 than 33 though, just for those keeping exemplaring in mind (I may lock there for a few more rolls before moving on).

Nice to see the idea is still remembered and well-received.

Yep, that's what I resorted to on my Kin/EA when I fought him (which made it feel like I was playing Punch-Out!!! or something - oh, here comes his move, time to block...again). I honestly tried just getting out of range, but kept failing (he hit me four or five times; apologies if my reflexes stink). So I took the cheap out with the elevators.

I'm planning on rolling a bunch at 32 then again at 37, just to get a few more recipes out there. It's probably not optimal, but I'm not sure I really care at this point (if I was going for max profit, I'd just be playing my 50s).

  13. The best examples of these are when they decide to climb fire escapes (and then sometimes, I think, jump off of the buildings...now THAT is fear!)

As for the Wedding Pack vs the Party Pack, I'd opt for the Wedding Pack (right now I don't have either on either account). I like costume options. I never use emotes.

Ah, that would make sense then. It looked like it had a base accuracy of 75 in Mids'. Thanks.

edit: and of course I hadn't checked to see what non-set IOs it took...duh

Rather than start a new thread (probably been addressed before anyway), I've been wondering about Energy Drain from the Energy Aura set. Mids says it takes Healing, End Mod, and Taunt sets. No Accurate Healing? What gives there? Oversight? Design?
  18. Maybe he was attempting to guard the mission exit.
  19. My son has told me that the sound of one of the powers in the Dark Blast set can be heard coming from the TARDIS (Doctor Who) on occasion - I heard it once and think he's probably right.

There's also this sci-fi whoosh sound - goes in two quick beats, first down a little then the second finishing up - that I hear everywhere on TV that I swear I first heard used in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

My 10yo son has been playing on-and-off since he was about 5. He doesn't stick with characters long enough to get very high though (yes, he has altitis and probably has about 50 toons; as he's grown at least his names have branched out from Fire [His name], Ice [His Name], Dark [His Name], Healing [His Name]....).

After it was announced he kept asking me for updates on GR and was really psyched about it. He hasn't played it a whole lot though with Super Mario, Metroid, etc. also available. Plus, I think he was a little deterred by a) unclear contact lines (at 8 or 9 he had no leads and I had to walk him up to Washington in order to get missions) and b) difficulty.

His questions now are more along the lines of "Why can't we have water blast? Why isn't there radiation melee?"

Oh, right - my son is HUGE on Doctor Who. Often times he'll choose to watch it over playing CoH or anything else.

New characters going forward, though? Oh, yes, certainly going to take advantage of it. No reason not to.
I'm thinking along these general lines. Characters that still have a ways to go to level I'll most likely respec (my KM/EA is at 27 - he'll get a respec, probably fitting in Taunt, Conserve Power, Hasten). Characters who are basically set I'll likely keep as-is unless there is another compelling reason to respec. I don't usually go back and play them all that much (though with HM/VM I will maybe keep playing a couple of 50s) and the respec process is just not very enjoyable.

This has probably been commented on in the ten pages I haven't read, but on certain maps there have been times when I've wanted to go slower (but then most times I will run with sprint on). Cave maps (Cimeroran where I can't see up/down well or purple where I can't see much of anything well), any maps with doors. Can't count how many times I've misjudged doors in the sewers and slammed into the wall (including trying to chase Crimson, which might as well have been an auto-fail on the mish). And of course you have to back all the way up and try again, as the doors are lipped and don't let you strafe.

Seriously though, I like this part. Granted it was only a minor annoyance. But nice to see it fixed.
I'll have to bug it in-game if I see it again, but I had this happen to a contact in Talos Island as well, or at least something similar. Talk, get blank dialogue screen with only the "Leave" option. Closing then talking again returned it to normal.
