A question of stock sounds
Someone once said they heard the Blyde Square music in a Girls Gone Wild commercial.
edit:
Thus I have dedicated tireless hours to searching each and every Girls Gone Wild video for this track, but I'm not having much luck. I hope you guys appreciate all my hard work and dedication, and also please send money for more videos.
edit 2:
Very "hard" work m i rite.
I suspect that riff was stock at some point, but ... that song is so random and haphazardly put together they may very well have found parts of things they liked and put it to their own lyrics. It's like the song tries to be 13 different kinds of genres all at once.
Please read my FEAR/Portal/HalfLife Fan Fiction!
Repurposed
My son has told me that the sound of one of the powers in the Dark Blast set can be heard coming from the TARDIS (Doctor Who) on occasion - I heard it once and think he's probably right.
There's also this sci-fi whoosh sound - goes in two quick beats, first down a little then the second finishing up - that I hear everywhere on TV that I swear I first heard used in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
Suggestions:
Super Packs Done Right
Influence Sink: IO Level Mod/Recrafting
Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level
I recall reading somewhere in the forums that most of the music and a lot of the sounds are stock, which explains why they show up elsewhere. The high pitched shriek that accompanies costume changes in the GR launch trailer, for example, is the same sound made by a particular enemy type in Duke Nukem 3D.
Better yet, the first time I saw one of the trailers for a Certain Other superhero game I was reminded of the Rikti War Zone
The standard police chatter you hear around police drones (seven-three-twenty-five, mumble-mumble) can be heard in every documentary that features police chatter ever (it's like this is the only sound clip for it IN THE WORLD) and the sounds for Forcefields are often used for background noise on many, many Discovery Channel programmes, from historical shows to mystery shows to everything in-between.

On Talos Island, the narrow landmass jutting westward from the Dark Astoria gate-- the theme there is the same theme heard when entering a dungeon in the game [CENSORED FOR PREVENTION OF TOTAL WORLD ANARCHY], a fun little dungeon crawler and time waster in the fine tradition of old games from the 1980s like [CENSORED FOR PREVENTION OF TOTAL WORLD ANARCHY]. Also, when one of Doctor Vahzilok's "zombots" (as War Witch refers to them in the comics), er, pukes acid all over your new boots-- I heard the same sound from alien invaders in [CENSORED FOR PREVENTION OF TOTAL WORLD ANARCHY]. I also heard the same police radio chatter in [CENSORED FOR PREVENTION OF TOTAL WORLD ANARCHY]. I think that's about it. Not really bothered by it.
Of course, it would be wrong not to mention the great job Paragon Studios recently did in updating many of the sounds in the game, such as footsteps, whooshing flying sounds, and all the other environmental ambiance to be found all over! (Flying feels so much more like flying now.) All in all, a step closer to TOTAL WORLD IMMERSION.

I know I've heard the Atlas Plaza neighborhood music at least once on The Colbert Report.

I've been trying to find the source of that stock sound for a while now. It caught my attention with how frequently it's used, though my guess is the original source has been lost to the ages.

Felis Noctu (50MM Necro/Miasma)
Night Widow Noctu (23SoA)
Toxica Mentis (50Troller Ill/Kin)
Thunder Kiandra (2*Tank WP/SS)
The sound effect for the Radiation Snipe Proton Volley sounds exactly like the green disintegration blasts the Martians use in the classic version of War of the Worlds. Looks a lot like them too, so I doubt it's a coincidence.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
Confirmed. Look up the police chatter "radio station" from the original Grand Theft Auto. Every clip in that track has been used all over the place, and my best guess is they weren't the first to use it either. I've heard it in tv shows, in movies, in all tons of video games...

I swear you can hear the Peacebringer whine in Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It's even more noticeable in Weird Al's parody, "Smells Like Nirvana."
Issue 16 made me feel like this.
Warning: This poster likes to play Devil's Advocate.

I'm noticing lately that the pulse blasts that come out of the Praetorian Clockwork make me think my mouse came unplugged, because it's REALLY close to the plug n' play "found new hardware" noise that Windows makes.

If you are referring to the police drone chatter, it is "Read 7-8-5, code 6, 105 north avenue", not the 132 and Bush line from Cops.

On my travels around the internet, I recently came across 'Shaken' by Shiny Toy Guns. As soon as the song started, my ears pricked up, and images of snakes, corrupt police, and arachnos came instantly into my mind. I jumped over to ParagonWiki, and found that I had indeed heard correctly; the intro to Shaken appears to be in the intro to Darwin's Landing.
Now, is this one of those cases where CoH is using stock sounds, and Shiny Toy Guns used the same stock? Or is this a case of sampling? I've heard of unmodified songs being used in media, the Atlas Park Theme particularly, but this is the first I've heard of such sounds being embedded in this way. I was even unaware if the CoV music was achieved in the same manner as CoH. Either way, I'm curious to hear if anybody has heard anything similar. Have you heard sounds that grab your attention, and instantly know what part of the CoH universe you're hearing?
