glowie humming sound -- very quiet?

I've returned to CoH after a four-year hiatus. One thing I've noticed is that the humming sound that mission objectives make has gotten very, very quiet. Like, I have to turn up my volume so loud that footsteps sound like explosions, the mission-complete fanfare is ear-splitting, and forget about hearing it at all if anything else is going on in the mission anywhere.

This is making click-the-glowie missions unplayable for me. For multi-objective missions where the map doesn't show pointers until the very end, I've spent an hour wandering around a completely empty map with my volume turned all the way up, just to find the last two glowies. Wincing every time my character's feet hit the ground, because her footsteps are so very loud.

Is this something that changed while I was gone? Is there something I can do to make just that sound louder?

Personally, I changed the sound to Homer saying "heh heh". Very out of place and very easy to find. And so annoying that I have to click it asap .

To change this sound, find a sound you want to replace it with, convert that sound to an .OGG sound file (you can use Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder) and save it as data\sound\ogg\FrontEnd\Objective_loop.ogg under you City of Heroes directory.

If you want to try and keep the same sound but make it louder, you can download the sound from the paragon Wiki (right click and save that link) and try and use Audacity (or other sound editor) to make it louder. You can then save it as mentioned above. But the sound by itself seems pretty loud already.

Newer missions with newer glowies are quieter. The old ones I havent noticed any change with.

How to silence specific game sounds (or change them)

Substitute something not in game, like a barking dog.

I know of someone that changed theirs out for "Hey! Hey! Over here!"
... not, "Hey! Listen!"?

Yeah, the destroyables are much softer. But then, they are targetable and spamming the targeting button finds them quickly.

Man, I got to find a way to get the audio from the annoying Borderlands Claptraps yelling out things before you find them.

That would be much easier to hear.

Much thanks for the prompt & detailed responses, folks. I have a glowie sound I can hear, now, and it makes me very happy!

For anyone else trying to turn up the volume in Audacity on the glowie sound downloaded from Paragon Wiki: You'll need to check the 'allow clipping' box on the Amplify transform, or it won't have much effect.

Google is your friend. Several sites with claptrap sounds.
