whilst I might agree that all costumes should be available to all platers (and I also might not.../em flipcoin) in regards to the OP's problem with making a samurai themed toon, my cyborg samurai character Robo-Ronin was created before I had the vet costumes and he has taped feet, Japanese pants (trousers) and, ok buckled leather top, but a robe of some kind would have been fine (if they'd let me put a robotic arm on it). I am going to go back and redesign him now, but he's always been fairly close to my concept. I'd advise that if you've not got the Samurai Armour set yet, then make your toon as if he's a young trainee (shame there's no Bokken, I suppose you could try and recolour a Katana to match) and once you've levelled up and got your vet reward, add the armour.

I'd like to see more women!
although, the fact that I've been confused for a girl IRL because my female toon's silicon slider wasn't maxed out isn't a great sign of the culture surrounding the game. -
Quote:I like the idea, but your team mates shouldn't hate you if you screw up anyway! Unless maybe you're playing villains. One thing I'd really like to see is MA access through SG base computers
Not so you can go from levels 1 - 50 in your base, but so you could use it as a 'Danger Room'. Practice teamwork, let new players get a feel of how their chosen AT works best in a hostile environment without making the rest of your team mates hate you if you screw it up.
Instead of creating 'AE babies' we can help make some 'AE adults'! -
that's pretty much what I had in mind. The little fluffy bunny tail would probably be on there were I making it, and as for making it look more furry, there's an option that comes with the magic booster pack. I think it's a shoulders piece. That might help.

Quote:while this, and Golden Girl's request for better movement on our avatars (and their hairI'd like to see glowing costume items, like those Tron lines on PsoiTron, or the blades on Fire/Toxic Tarantula. Currently, none of our costume pieces self-illuminate unless they have sprite effects on them - if you walk into darkness, they darken and turn black. Posi's Tron stripes do not. Even in pitch black, his costume turns black, but his stripes remain the same visible shade of blue, making them look like they're glowing or fluorescent. Want this so very much.
) basically boils down to more customisation, I can't say that I don't really want this stuff too.

Topping up a few enhancements in Cim and Midnight Squad places, and had a revelation...albeit a minor one.
How about letting us filter the available stock of a store to just stuff we can use? It's highly unlikely that a player on a toon of one origin is going to want to search through all the available enhancements for other origins (although, I can imagine a few scenarios where they might, so still leave a "view all" option there) so being able to filter even just by origin would be good, although being able to filter by usable enhancements would be even better. -
Swapping stuff between toons should be done via The Vault IMO. Surely it's not outwith the bounds of reality that you can leave stuff in a safety deposit box for a particular party, then the staff there remind them "Hey $charactername, we're holding something for you."
I like the idea of zone reconstruction. Fighting The Honoree for the hundredth time is important to the continued existence of Paragon City, but there's a lot of heroes in the city, I think some should be required to help out with other things than punching faces. Plus, it could unlock a "hard hat" costume piece!
Lost of other good suggestions here as well. Missions from street mobs and rescued civillians, advanced exploration of other realities and stuff, all good.
Playing Villains a lot recently, my suggestion in this thread would be some kind of rep system with the various enemy groups. If you've done a lot of missions for one group they should be less inclined to attack you. It could be linked to whatever arc you're on I suppose, as you can go from doing a bunch of missions to help a particular group to another arc where you're fighting them all the time. That might even make them more eager to attack you, as they see it as a betrayal, and could lead to ambushes or something. With the morality of your character being introduced as a factor affecting play in GR, loyalty should be considered also (and think of the badges! "Honorary Goldbricker" "Friend of The Family" that sort of thing).
It wouldn't make a huge impact hero-side, although I suppose the ambush thing could be put into effect, or maybe if you're taking out a lot of one faction in your missions they get scared of you and the standard minions on the streets run away? -
real-time scanning on or off. all other programs exited and closed, wearing black socks or white, a hat or not, sitting or standing I'm still getting problems like this. Actually, it was this. It's now evolved into a state where the game confuses me clicking an auction house employee with me telling it to crash to desktop and ask me to verify files when I try to log back in...an amusing new feature? I have to assume so from the frequency.
I'll admit, at first I was kind a worried about it. Then I started to find it mildly amusing. Then it got really, really frustrating. Now it's funny. Funny to the level of drowing a sack of puppies by tying a big giant stone statue of a dog to the bag before dumping it in a river. Hi...wait for it...larious! -
little AT emoticons would be kick-***! we could use them in our sigs to list our toons, without taking up so much space.
or they could just be the normal emoticons with masks -
I'd love stuff that looks close to a Lawgiver, Grave's guns from Gungrave (which, in all black would be pretty darn close to Robocop's gun), Megatron! and a nice olde-fashioned-ey six-shooter.

Great guide!
I still plan on maybe going Crab for my second build (the arms don't bother me, in fact, I quite like them) but this definitely made me see the good in the Wolf and Bane powers. Slotting and stuff isn't something I focus greatly on, but a nice overview of the various powers available and what they're good at was very useful, liked the way you gave your honest views but didn't flat out tell people what to pick. I'm not necessarily following the recommendations to the letter, but I get the feeling you didn't make this guide so everyone would have the exact same build as you, but rather, that they/we'd have fun with our Spiders. Thanks! -

Quote:It would have been good if this had been a guide that educated me in some way, but I feel stupider for having read most of it.The difference is, the guide you propose will most likely educate someone about something they might not have done otherwise. The present conversation involves asking people to noticeably shift their online social behavior.
The difference being, one asks them to play the game, the other asks them to BE different in that game. Which do you think is more likely?
I don't disagree with the statements in the first post. People could be banned for bad language. Technically violent and/or sexually suggestive (or, of course, explicit) language does go against the Agreement made before logging in.
However, even ignoring the somewhat debatable validity of the American word for bum (as opposed to bum being the American word for hobo) as an actual swear, someone saying "Let's kick some ***!" is still implying violence, in fact it's an attempt to incite violence. Should they be banned for it?
I'd also argue that since the player has to change the options to allow profanity to be displayed, they're making a concious decision to consent to seeing such words. In the UK at least, 16 (the recommended age for the game) is old enough to marry and have kids. If you're an adult you should be able to read people swearing. I don't think swearing is such an issue in the EU servers (except on one particular global channel, but that's a whole other thread) because we're not as uptight about that sort of thing this side of the pond (a very broad generalisation which, if pressed, I will back up with made up statistics) but I've had people I've had to ignore before. Not for their use of swear words, but for their lack of grammar and spelling, the hatred behind their words, or just because they were spamming a lot of nonsense.
It certainly does seem that this stems from the actions of a number of people on a particular server affecting a particular person, and whilst I can appreciate the need to vent, attempting to do so in the form of an unhelpful (IMO, of course) guide, isn't the best way. Particularly, since, as has already been noted, those who're spamming your server probably wouldn't care enough to try and read this, even if they could.
Besides, your sig is very far from innocent, with it's suggested inter-species erotica. -
considering how much of a revolving door death is in comics I wouldn't get too hung up on it if you do consider defeated enemies to have been killed. They'll still be back in time for the next person running the mission to have a shot at them.

Great thread! I really want Tetris on my bank's ATMs!

I would really rather that the unlockable stuff counted account-wide as well, if we're going to have to unlock new stuff in the first place.
I've had a few instances where I've seen a weapon and thought of a great concept for a character using it, only to discover that I'd need to spend dozens of levels to even get to the stage where I can begin the grind for it.
Not that there's no sense of achievement, that sort of thing is good, but after spending my time in the Shadow Shard, or getting enough Vanguard Merits for half of a helmet, you really do wonder if it's worth it. -

Quote:Or, let us check the market after doing a TF without crashing the game back to desktop. That'd be kinda fun.I heard in another thread that you would no longer be forced to log out to change to an alt, i.e. you don't have to spend 30 seconds doing nothing if you want to check the market for all your toons.
This will be the biggest QoL-improvement ever for me (started right after I12) if it is true, as I am sure it will be for many other people with heavy altitis
WW and BM kill me 70% of the time, but mapserver isn't nearly as bad as complete crash and the "Verifying Files" curse that'd plagued me the past few months. -
since no real world companies are taking up the advertising slots in game, I think we should be able to advertise MA arcs or put up SG recruitment ads.
Obviously Architect stories would be easier to implement, because they're universal, whereas SGs are server-specific.
Another option which would enhance the real-world-y-ness of the place would be a building or two with scrolling messages around the side of them...I'm thinking maybe something like the WW or Black Market prices in the same way as you see Stock Exchange stuff on some buildings in the world.
Now, before anyone gets all worried about MA arc adverts...I'd imagine there'd be a very limited set of options to put together your ad. Something like a shot of one or two characters, maybe a couple of fonts to choose from for the title. Start with the Dev's Choice ones or highest rated ones. -
More dayjobs and dayjob accolades would be great (maybe even combining them with other badges for example the above mentioned Playboy, could come with the Clubber badge and the Midas Touch/Superstar inf badge) particularly if they added insides to all the storefronts we can't currently access. If the devs don't have time for it, why not run a contest to let people design the new workplaces using something like the base editor?
edit: I want a lawyer's office so I can be an Attorney At Law. -
if we keep bikes out (still!) because of the absurdity of them simply being a replacement for running (which I don't think we should, I wouldn't mind it too much) then how about adding in a Unicycle? surely that'd work ok?

I don't find the game too easy at all. Well, sometimes, when teaming, probably down to the ATs and Powersets my teammates are using.
When I solo (either through choice or lack of available teams) I always keep it on base difficulty and yeah, there are some thing that are not that difficult, maybe even easy, but that's because I try my best to think about how best to play.
changing between ATs can make a huge difference in how you have to go about punching those enemies in the face.yeah I've run through complete missions with barely a pause after a mob, but then I've also had to try and draw a couple of enemies at a time away from even a small mob or hit and run sometimes. Of course then there have been the missions where I've suffered 2 deaths for every one enemy I've taken down, or worse! (COT don't like Arachnos soldiers)
I certainly think it's a good thing there's all the difficulty options, folks who like an even greater challenge, or who've chosen a build specifically to have a high-powered character might like, or even need the tougher mobs to make the game fun. That's cool. I go by character concept most of the time, and feel that a lot of the time it probably ends up with me having a less than optimal character for winning fights, but I enjoy it the way it is, and if some of my toons can only take on one or two baddies at once, oh well, just means that they feel a little bit more heroic when they take out a GM or something...or that they'd better focus on banter in order to add something to a team.
