May we have more unlockable weapons?

Who else loves unlocking weapons? I know it's not just me. I'm running a stalker with broadsword right now, his bio is something about a ninja-sword collector. I chose B-sword because it has the most unlockables.

Broadsword has the most unlockable types right now, 9 or 10 for B-sword (including valkyrie blade)

Assault Rifle has 6 unlockables, counting both nemesis or coucil weapons unlocked at the same time as 2 seperate guns.

Battle Axe has 7, counting the talsorian as 2, color tintable and not.

Archer bow only has 2

Claws only has 2 (the 2 most badass, mind you. )

Dual Blades has 3

Katana has 3

poor Dual Pistols has 0, might change with GR, tho. Let's hope so

Pulse Rifle has 3, counting the crey ones as 2 seperate, however unlocked at the same time

War Mace has 2

Sheilds have a good amount, 16

Part of my love for video games, online and offline, is unlocking stuff. I would love to see more unlockable weapons in the future. Any suggestions for any kind of styles you might like to see? Serious or not? (I do get a rofl from seeing some of the crazy powerset jokes that come from these suggestion and idea threads, dual archery and such, lol)

Yes. This.

I hate having a character concept that would go so well with a weapon that I can't unlock until I'm half way or more to 50, or I can get a friend with a 50 to farm it for me.

(I have this problem with Assault Rifle as the only weapon for it that I really like is the Vanguard Reading Rifle, which you still can't get till level 35.)

Enough with this unlockable crap, please. Pardon my word choice, but it's really starting to drive me up the wall. Unless you want to enable costume unlocks to be account-wide, then the LESS unlockable weapons we have, the better.

Now, the "more weapons" sentiment I can very much echo. Please, please give us more weapons. But actually GIVE us the weapons, don't slap them on some level 35+ content or behind a terrible grind.

Damnit, Sam, stop making me agree with you!

But yes. Unlockables ONLY work when they are realistic.
I am still angry about my Nemesis renegade concept Redside, given the Nem rifles need the Unveiler badge...do you have ANY idea how hard that is to get? When you're level 15?
Hmph.

LOL well yah just giving them to us right off the hop would be even better!
Personally I was pretty proud of myself for taking down 100 fake Nemesis. But just having the alternate rifle to start would be awesome too.

The Talsorian sheild was really worth the wait. The fact that even when it is closed it still stays on the costume only makes it cooler. I am all for having to earn some gear.

I have an ice blaster that I dream of putting an arm cannon on (something like what Vandle rocks). I fear this day will never come, but a guy can dream.

Idk it took it off wiki. ItÂ’s probably an old pic, lol. There was another one but it obscured the arm.

I would really rather that the unlockable stuff counted account-wide as well, if we're going to have to unlock new stuff in the first place.
I've had a few instances where I've seen a weapon and thought of a great concept for a character using it, only to discover that I'd need to spend dozens of levels to even get to the stage where I can begin the grind for it.

Not that there's no sense of achievement, that sort of thing is good, but after spending my time in the Shadow Shard, or getting enough Vanguard Merits for half of a helmet, you really do wonder if it's worth it.

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

I must be used to bad graphics, because the picture looks pretty normal to me. xD

EDIT: I guess I should post something about being first after a red name here, huh?

Arc ID: 348998 - Becoming a villain
Arc ID: 373341 - To Save a Hero

I take that as a "no" for arm-cannons, then? *Sigh*

It was probably more of a comment on the weird shading the first Vandal pic has. The second one didn't even work for me.

Hey... someone worked really hard drawing and coloring that with colored pencils. You be nice.

...

That IS a drawing, isn't it?

Please tell me that's a drawing and not a screenshot.

On topic, still waiting for the ability to have talons instead of back-of-palm mounted claws.

Be well, people of CoH.

Not until you can imagine someone using:

Dual Wielded Blades
Archery
Assault Rifles
"And the rest"

With a straight face. It's for this reason the Developers have openly regretted the Pirate Hook. Any costume piece designed needs to look good in 90%* of the situations a player would naturally put it in for it to be a reasonable request.

Sorry, but it's not a technically viable option.

*I do not remember the exact number, but Sexy Jay said they had a rough guesstimate of a percentage that fits in the above statement for costume design.

They appear to be set on "1980s".

Oh, and more weapons are good, unlockable or not. I prefer them to be available at character creation, but I can see the reasoning for restricting weapons with clear connections to specific factions.

The Way of the Corruptor (Arc ID 49834): Hey villains! Do something for yourself for a change--like twisting the elements to your will. All that's standing in your way are a few secret societies...and Champions of the four elements.

I actually think BABs was joking, and in regards to the bizarre shading and the aggressive gamma on that pick, combined with some bottom-of-the-barrel graphics settings and a REALLY crappy jpg quality. Seriously, that pic is scary.

More specifically, though, I believe the desire for an arm cannon was more a desire for a powerset, rather than for a glove that's an armcannon. I can't say I'm in disagreement with that.

I'm fine with unlockabes, if they either unlock the costume part/weapon for all characters on the account or, if they gave you a "unlock costume part X" token that could be redeemed one time by any character on the account. That way, you only get to use the part as many times as you've "earned" it, but you could give it to new/low-level toons.

Actually, an arm cannon costume piece would be viable if it was restricted to powersets that would actually have one (i.e. non-weapon blast powers). However there are two problems. First is that many blasts would have to be reanimated to have them shot only come from the end of that particular arm. Second is all the whiner-babies who would start crying that the restriction ruined the character concept they came up with (the one they came up with 2 seconds after they heard about the restriction).

So it is possible to do, but not likely to happen anytime soon.

Bone Claws would be prime.

Or that cool Bazooka worn around by one of the Crey powersuit guys.

The pic was not captured in that condition; it was obviously put through a filter in a photo editing software to stylize it to look like a color pencil sketch. IOW, it was made that way on purpose. Take it or leave it
