  1. Does it need them, not necessarily. But trust me, you want them. And yes, Silverado is right on track, you want as much defense as you can pack in. My mains both redside and blue are both /WP toons, a Claws/WP Brute and a FM/WP Scrapper. On both I've managed to softcap S/L/E/N at 45% and there is something magical about running into full +2/x8 spawns and not seeing your blue or green bars move.

You'll love willpower, it's a fast right out of the box and can only get better and better as you layer in (and invest in IO's) defense, resists, HP's and recharge.
  2. I'm quite proud of my Volcano themed Kano Kilauea, a fire melee / shield scrapper. Shield customization allows you a nice chunk of flaming lava and fire melee has plenty of face meltingly awesome attacks. I'll try and remember to get a pic of him and post it next time I get a chance.

  5. Thanks guys, like I said, first corruptor so I wasn't sure how endurance works out. I know at level 10 I'm sucked dry almost every fight, but that can be said of just about all the AT's until you get stamina. No stamina??? Coming from a scrapper that sounds almost absurd, but I'll take your word for it, and look forward to it. Maybe in the meantime I'll hold on to stamina on the run to 35, then plan on respeccing out and grabbing hasten instead.

Good catch on the slotting of suppressive fire, I should have known that as I usually 4-slot Basi's in all of my scrappers usually on Char from the Pyre mastery. I guess I was being too focussed on the softcap target I was trying to hit.
  6. How does this build look that I've been playing around with? Granted, my guy isn't but level 10 at the moment and I also have little to no experience playing anything redside or corruptor to be specific. But I really want to give it a go, I've got a great name/concept and I'm ready to give Redside a real try. I would like to play him like one of my scrappers, deep in the middle of things, so I've softcapped his S/L and E defenses.

    Whataya think?

Given that WP is a bit short on DDR, a bit of buffer is always nice in the event of autohit def debuffs like Quicksand.

That said, with WP, it's a tough call. Since it's not really reliant on defense for the most common attack types, in theory it won't need as much defense as other builds might. Tough stacked with Mind Over Body gives a pretty decent level of S/L resistance, and if you have enough mobs in range (especially debuffed mobs) you'll have pretty damn good regen, which can really help. Also, SS has pretty good mitigation in KO Blow (Knock-up with a Hold attached) and Footstomp (AoE Knockdown, which can buy you some time for HP to regen back). All in all, I'd still try for 35% to S/L, since most of the time that should be enough, and a small purple could easily put you into god-mode levels, for a short time at least.
This, Warron is dead on. I've got my claws/WP brute sitting at 45% S/L defense and 43% E/N defense (I don't worry much with fire/cold). Shoot for 45%, work on getting as many KC IO sets as you can, everything will be gravy after 32-35% with smart usage of purps.

Looking better, although I think you may run into endurance issues by adding maneuvers and tactics while dropping the fitness pool. And by simply swapping a couple slots around and 4-slotting all three of your resist powers with Reactive Armors you'll get yourself softcapped to S/L. You're on the right track though, you've got those defensive powers slotted much better. And if you're still attached to Melt Armor, just pick up one of the new temp powers, think it's the envenomed dagger, works just as well and does some damage at the same time and will save you a power pick.

I looked at the build you suggested in the other thread that poped up after I had done my search yesterday and It may have stronger defenses that's about it. That build would over all do less damage, heal slower, and is missing a solid ST attack.

I read what you said about scorch, is that really the case of it being better DpA then Fire Sword?

I'm modifying my build a bit and I will take what you both have said into consideration, I don't want to lose too much damage, however that strong of defenses is appealing.
My build would heal slower....hmmmm. I see, I didn't have RttC set to 10 or my hero accolades on like you did. When I do that, I come out with 998% regen and 2126 HP's compared to your 1016% regen and 2075 HP's, and I did that with fewer slots.

My ST attack chain while almost seemless is lacking cremate which is indeed needed for the optimum attack chain. In the end I sacrificed that for more defense with maneuvers. For solo farming and teaming/TF's I do solid damage and can take beating if I need to. In the end it's up to you and what your looking to do. I'm working on a secondary build with a top end DPS fire melee attack chain to solo AV's and for the Rikti Pylons, but so far not liking it as much as my primary build.

At any rate, there was a thread not too long ago that handled all the fire melee attack chains and recharge needed to pull it all off, I'll look for that for you.

Edit: Here's a thread on how bad Melt Armor is...
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=225384

Edit 2: Here's a good one for FM attack chains...
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=198144
  10. I have a FM/WP as my main and it's one of my favorite toons to play. It was the easiest and quickest trip to 50 for me as the combo works well out of the box and even with SO's performs strongly. With proper slotting though, they can absolutely become a beast. Like Twilight_Snow, I see a few things in your build that I recommend you looking into that will vastly improve your perfomance.

First, as Twilight_Snow pointed out, you need to shore up you defenses as you can do MUCH better. Heightened Senses is the backbone of your defenses and increases your TYPED defenses, not your positional. So with IO sets your looking to build S/L primarily and as much E/N and F/C after that, not melee/ranged/AoE defense. To that end, like suggested, you'll be wanting the expensive Kinetic Combats slotted in your attacks. Also, all of your defenses are underslotted and have no end reducers which is going to be a major drag on your blue bar, and with /Willpower you should never have endurance issues. I would at least three-slot those defense toggles, if your going LoTG's, get the Defense, defense/endurance and the defense/global recharge. That gets as much defense out of the power as you can expect, less endurance costs and the added HP bonus from the IO set.

I like the Reactive Armors in your resist powers, just four slot them though.

Fast healing and Quick recovery, overslotted. Three slots work fine, you don't need any recharge or endurance reducing in those powers. If you want to mix in the uniques then maybe go for a 4th slot, but play around with Mids and see how juggling slots between FH & Health and QR & Stamina effects your regen and recovery and max HP's.

I go pyre epic as well, fireball is a nice follow up to FSC when running those big spawns like we like to do. But the only reason I'd take (but probably still not use) char is to four slot it with Basilisks Gazes. I've found I like Ring of Fire better because I can throw in a 6 slot of Enfeebled Operation for more typed S/L defense and good IO bonuses. Melt Armor sadly is crap, it sucks down the endurance, has a long timer and really doesn't do that much. Grab fireblast instead and 6-slot it with Thunderstrikes. Great IO bonuses and the ability to shoot down runners or maybe get the attention of that one guy who is reluctant to join the herd for your AoE's.

Make a few of these changes and I'm telling you, you'll see a big improvement in your performance. In the other two FM/WP threads (still here on the first page so no necro concerns) I've posted my build. It's not the end-all-be-all build, but it works great for me and I think covers all the bases. Good luck you you, you've got the groundwork in place for a potent hero!
  11. I'd love to see a something like this make it into the game. I've been wanting a tomahawk put in for my axe tanker forever, I believe the graphic skin is already in the game, I think I've seen it in Mr. Yin's store in Faultline.

Here's my Axe/FA tanker Cherokee Sun, rough leather boots and gloves, fringe cape and earthy (brown/red) colors for his super suit/tights:

Bah, pictures a little dark but you get the idea...

  12. Here's mine, pretty close to what your looking for. I recently respecced out of Thunderstrike because I felt between LR, SC and FB I had plenty of AOE and wanted to boost my ST chain, and turns out I like Chain Induction alot more, it's a fun power.

  13. I believe I've read here on the forums that Scorch actually has better DPA than Fire sword so you aren't really missing anything there, and scorch is all fire damage so that much the better. While I love the big numbers that GFS puts out, especially when following build up, it's also skippable when putting together the best fire attack chain. Where I think you'll be the most hurting yourself is FSC, that is arguably one of the best AOE attacks available to scrappers. But again, if you're working for a top notch ST attack chain you won't be hurting yourself by skipping it as well. In the end, I worked the flaming sword into my concept and love it just that much more.

Here's my build BTW, softcapped to S/L and until the BoTZ nerf was also softcapped to E/N. Great attack chain, superior AoE capabilities, top notch regen/recovery and a great mix of defense and resists.

  14. Here's mine, tried and true build that I've been running with for a while on my main. I solo on +3/x8 w/bosses & AV's and can generally grab a full spawn or two and my green and blue bars never move. In large groups I fire off FSC and Fireball as fast as they pop back up, then hit any bosses with GFS and runners with fireblast. I've been know to grab a couple spawns, put FSC on auto and then going afk for a snack and drink.

If it weren't for those damn drones, I'd agree with you. They can be impossible to kill and tend to do everything in their power to not herd into the group for easy AOE'ing.

Council Empire guys on the other hand, they love to stand in huge groups tightly packed, and even the ones who aren't tend to fire off one round with their guns then rush into melee. Dummies!

The regular council guys are a little better, especially if your on a salvage run as they can drop both tech and magic salvage. Kill those marksmen first though, you don't want them slowing down the LR + SC train with their -recharge.
  16. Some good advice from the above posters, I'll just add this though, capped S/L defense will make you godly! Coming off a em/sd as you say you'll likely a.) know the difference between 30% defense and being softcapped and b.) have a ton of spare inf. around as you have one of the best farmers in the game. So, you'll want to start investing in the Kinetic Combats, put a set in every attack and even a couple mules.

After I do that I go for +HP and +Recharge. +Regen isn't as big a deal to me as I believe RTTC, FH and Health should do you nicely enough, throw in a couple regen unique IO's and your golden. Thats how I built my Claws/Willpower brute and I absolutley love him. It's nice to be able to run into a full +3/X8 spawn or two, set spin on auto and then go fetch a sammich and a coke. Come back and find yourself jump spinning all around on a pile of corpses. I've found no other brute secondary that works like that.
  17. My fm/wp scrapper, claws/wp brute, spines/fire scrapper, bs/sd scrapper and db/sr scrapper all wish they were my EM/SD scrapper. There is a reason it's the FoTM as you call it, it's the best, and it's a ton of fun. Throw in Pyre epic and you've got Lightning Rod, Shield Charge and Fireball all ready to go and nothing is more fun to drop on +2/X8 missions. Some will say its expensive to softcap a shielder or there are too many levels of squishieness, they're wrong, it can be done quick and cheap.

I'm currently leveling up a fm/sd scrapper, level 31 so far, and while I'm feeling pretty rugged and dropping FSC alot, I'm feeling like I'm gonna really miss Lightning Rod.

  20. If you read those other threads, I'm pretty sure I posted in a few of them. On my /WP toons I'm one of the guys who always goes for every bit of defense I can get. And +regen and +recovery are farther down on my list of things I'm shooting for, willpower already does those things, in spades, all by itself. So after defense I look towards +HP which will greatly benefit from all that regen and also recharge and propper slotting of my attack chain. With claws you really don't need that much recharge, it's already a fast set.

Now back to defense, if you've been in melee enough I'm sure you can "feel" the difference between no defense, 20's defense, mid-30's defense and softcapped. I like toggling up, heading into a full +2X8 spawn, put Spin on auto and then going for a sammich and coming back a few minutes to find myself all alone. You can do that with Willpower, so in my builds I go for softcapped S/L and trying to get as close to softcapped E/N as well (curse you BotZ nerf!!!!). For say 80% of the CoH PVE content, you could likely do the same with 35% defense and then pop the odd small purple from time to time when needed for the tougher battles. This allows you to IO slot towards some other things and remain more balanced in your "layers".

Now, for your build, I'm not sure what your attack chain is but you look woefully underslotted on a couple of those attacks, and I'd take follow-up much earlier in the build if this is a leveling build. Our builds aren't that far apart though, you've put more slots into FH, Health, QR and stamina than I did and I've better slotted my attacks. Oh, I'm also a brute, but we really put our pants on the same way first thing in the morning, and if anything you're build should be cheaper even with the purple set as my sets bought redside were crazy high.

  21. My main redside is a claws/wp brute by the name of Packmaster. I went with the Lycan/Werewolf origin and made him a career military/mercenary type. He has various military costumes and fatigues, a battle suit, but generally just leather pants and a sleeveless biker jacket and lots of gray/black fur. I like the look and theme alot.

I've also made a claws demon type, and there are plenty of looks and options there.

I've also seen some realy nice tech/armor suit types with claws and the Vanguard Blades and the Viper Blades always looks good with those suits. Here's my favorite though, check out this look/theme for a Claws/WP that was posted a few months back in the "favorite costume" thread here on the boards.

    Scorpionaut is pure win!
  22. I'd be interested in hearing how one of you dueced out FM/FA/Fire scrappers do against the Rikti Pylon and some of the other scrapper challenges. All this talk about what /Shields can do in that crazy thread has me wondering what you guys can really do. AV's and Pylons don't run, so you could use Burn plus all teh other fire goodness. Stack some defense with the resists, you've got the best heal and an endurance tool, a couple build-ups, blazing aura...
  23. I just got my first brute to 50, and I gotta say that I'd rather have crits than maintain fury. Solo it's a wash, but when your in groups who never seem to run at my same pace or have other guys battling me for fury, keeping it full can be troublesome to say the least.

    Crits > Fury
