Ele/SD - can some one explain it to me like Im a 5yr old (not a build question)

Well, Elec/SD (or Elec/SD/Blaze Mastery more specifically) is a combo that does one thing extraordinarily well: AoE damage. It has both Shield Charge and Lightning Rod which deal massive amounts of damage and have large radii. It also has Thunder Strike for mopping up survivors, and, if you choose Blaze Mastery as your ancillary power pool, Fire Ball.
Combine this with the damage buff from Against All Odds and you have just about all the AoE damage you'll ever need. Get a good softcapped (45% or greater defense to melee, ranged and AoE attacks) IO build with good +rech bonuses and you have a death dealing machine that is almost unequaled.
I have one such death dealing machine and there are many good reasons it is the current FotM.

I don't think Elec/SD is the new FotM, per say. I actually think that FM/SD is more common, as it blends excellent AoE in Fire Sword Circle with excellent Single Target(ST) damage. Elec/SD does indeed have a great deal more AoE, but Elec/ falls behind in ST damage. DM/SD is the opposite of Elec/SD and also very popular. It has the best ST damage, as well as a dual-purpose damage attack and self-heal in Siphon Life, but lacks in AoE.
I'd have to say that for farming options Elec/SD is obviously better, but for all around scrapping, I'd choose FM/SD due to it's greater ability to take out hard targets easily and still do excellent AoE. If you're looking for an AV/Pylon soloer then I'd reccommend DM/SD as the optimal choice, followed by FM/SD due to FM/'s greater ST damage compared to Elec/'s.
All of this aside, /SD scales greatly with the more influence invested in it. I would reccommend Fury Flechette's thread on Elec/SD and Fire/SD builds for varying options and excellent information:

Personally I just don't see the attraction of Elec/SD, especially the splash you have to make to get it to that level. I really encourage a Fire/SD if your going to be spending, Elec/SD was FoTM back in I16 when everyone just farmed AE, excluding the MM brokededed farms.
Fire/SD > Elec/SD.

If built for it elec/sd/fire can still put out as much st damage as most non /sd scrappers. ie ~200 dps.

Why is Ele/Shield appear (at least from some of the threads I have seen) to be the hands down favorite now for scrapping.
I have been gone for a while (long while) and was never the best Min/Max'er (I try but usually gave up once it was time to start breaking out the old slide rule).
So can someone just lay the bag of snakes that is Ele/SD scrapping out straight for me and give me the the skinny as to why its apparently the top dog.
My new alt will thank you.....
