Quote:First, large fonts and italics don't actually give your point any more validity.
Regarding Stormbird's comment: Good Grief. Before I am washed away in the torrent of insulting invective, let me suggest that the notions that Statesman had been "looking for rest after fighting crime for several decades" to the point that he would give up and let his daughter's murderer kill him
Second, there was no "let" about it. "Let" implies he had a choice once he was trapped. He did not.
Quote:Even after the Devs' ham-handed Souvenir pronouncement, it is still only an inference that Statesman would not wish to return. He could happily die with a smile on his face but still conclude he needed to come back to avenge his daughter, protect his granddaughter, save the world, etc. -
The one problem (and I use the term loosely) is that people have the option, IIRC, to disable that - so if you're planning on using it for "atmosphere," not everyone may see it.
Of course, if you're making them just for you - not an issue. -
Disabled with Freedom's launch. Old ones should still work.
They may be back "eventually." -
They work if you're a high-enough time Premium player, or purchased some from the store.
-
Note that Statesman's death is a part of *fiction* and determined by a *fictional* universe's owner, who has made it VERY clear what is meant and intended. Someone IRL who's just shot on the street or whatnot would likely have a passer-by (someone not aware of a DNR, etc.) try to save/revive them, or at least call an ambulance.
... you *do* realize Statesman is a fictional character, right? Just checking. -
You should search out his other posts. I'm not sure how the guy types with his nose so far up in the air. Must have a monitor on the ceiling.
-
Quote:Frankly, I find the "Bring him back!" to be pretty selfish. Either that or the "heroes" demanding it are so insecure in their own abilities they shouldn't be out of super-diapers.And it doesn't occur to you how baseless of a conclusion that is? That a corpse with what looks like a smile was happy to be dead? It's a heavy-handed "you just know" it storytelling technique that people use when they have no other means of conveying a fact they want to treat as a certainty.
-
Quote:I think most villain 50s would have something to say about that. And heroic ones, too.Obviously, with Statesman dead, we don't have anyone to stand up to Recluse.

Let dead stay dead.

I was originally going to make this about one specific mission, but even as I finished said mission, I thought I should give this post a bit wider scope.
Which missions do you think need to be updated/changed to better fit either the current "world story" or their internal story? I don't mean "Give me something besides the warehouse map" or "this is a boring one," but ones that could be better expressed now than they are.
For instance (and I'd say "Possible spoilers ahead," but these are years old - it'd be like spoiling Macbeth) :
Angus McQueen: Should no longer be worrying about a possible second Rikti invasion. He really, *really* needs updating.
Tina Mcintyre - Hydra Men: This is the mission that got me thinking about this. There's a short mission chain which deals with the Hydra men.
When you start it, it's to find a weakness to the Hydra head in the sewer. Standard kill all. You take some goo to Steven Sheridan, who tells you it's amazing, that this is actually a complex means of communication, that these arent' simple monsters. When you go *back,* you have another kill all with Hydra and some Rikti. Some of the dialog asks if you're there to kidnap them as well, or 'yells at' the Rikti that they'll no longer take their people.
This *really* needs updating. Honestly, this could probably be a more in depth story arc of its own - and, being blueside, a hero should have a choice of actually *saving* and starting an alliance with these creatures (or at least diplomatic relations) - which just killing them... well, it's not typically a great start to.
That's aside from what could be done with the two Rikti factions (which were mentioned by this point anyway initially, but have been fleshed out more.)
(And yes, I'm aware of the text at the end of the mission - but even with that, showing that you're not there to kidnap them but help free them, even if you "leave them alone" at the end, would make more sense than "Hi, I'm here to slaughter everything that's not me in the name of being a hero!") -
Quote:Herding as it used to be, yes. However, "herding" a room of spread out mobs tends to be fairly quick, and still goes faster than "plink 1-2 over here, the wanderer over there, etc, etc, etc."Roderick nailed this spot on. Herding is boring for the rest of the team, and with the cap on the number of targets on AoE powers, it's actually less efficient than taking out each spawn as you come upon them.
Being with a herding tank is especially tedious when the tank is new and not as tough as he thinks he is. I can't count the number of times I've heard a tank say, "I'm going to herd them, wait here." And then he proceeds to run out and promptly faceplant. And since he's in the middle of a nasty mob, the rest of the team has to wait while he comes back from the hospital.
It's not black and white. Herding has its uses. It should, however, not be the only thing a tank does - if the team's moving fast enough, the tank's quite likely "spiking" (jumping into the mob to keep aggro centered and focused on him - I don't know if anyone else uses that term) instead of having to herd.
And why would the rest of the team need to wait for the tank if he faceplants? They can do damage while he comes back. *shrug* -
Quote:The detectives are partners. The thing I've always been curious about is, why do we have two detectives/brokers per zone?
The brokers are roomates in a wacky sit-com b/romance crime series featuring them and a small dog, running every Wednesday night (with reruns on Friday) on SPDR-TV. -
Quote:No, but look at your phrasing - which basically implies "Nobody does this any more, use these other rewards." Which is an assumption that everyone plays the way you do, essentially.
Now Stormbird I never said absolutely no one EVER did Ramiel's arc these days but I see players all the time now on trials opening their alpha running trials without ever bothering to do it. The only thing in game that required an open ALPHA was the Tin Mage and Apex TFs.
Quote:As for your suggestion to offer a chioice.. I considered that but then it just adds to the clutter of an end of TF reward table.
Quote:The point of the revamp was why do we even NEED shards or the notice anymore?
Quote:Sure you can use those to open and craft enhancers for your ALPHA slot but now you can do that same thing with threads, astrals and emps and those allow youo to also open and slot the other FOUR incarnate powers.
So, no, I won't agree with removing the choice... pretty much ever. Any more than I'd agree with removing/repurposing PVP zones because "nobody" uses them/is interested in PVP, dumping TO/DO/SOs because "everyone" uses inventions, etc. -
Quote:Every one of my 50s. I don't run trials enough to have "spare" astrals, etc. (I don't find them that engrossing or fun.) And Ramiel's arc isn't that tough, so why would I waste them?Remember WAY back when it first began, back when we were all doing every 45-50 level TF to get shards, and players were rushing from TF contact to TF contact to get their Alpah slotted. Then the WST arrived and we were overjoyed to be able to finally gain those top two tiers. Okay now how many of you ever even bother to go talk to Mender Ramiel?
Quote:1. Stop rewarding 50 levels that participate in any other mission , including TF, Sf etc, with shards and start awarding threads.
Stop, absolutely not.
Quote:3. Do away with the NoTW entirely and offer up EMPS instead.
Stop, absolutely not.
Remember, not everyone plays the same way, as much as, etc. you. Don't remove *my* rewards because *you* feel they're useless or out of date. -
Quote:Think of it sort of like referring to someone on the job versus after retirement, or meeting them socially, etc. "Look, at work, I'm Director So-and-so. After 5, it's Jim."The City of Heroes signature characters have no secret identities. They really never have. We know them by their real names, and those are in their character profiles, as well. Everybody knows who these people are. What's weirder to me is why we keep referring to them by those goofy names they picked for themselves instead of referring to them by their real names, like in Praetoria? I mean, I keep using them because I - the player - just can't seem to remember most of their. I know the Statesman is Marcus Cole, I know Manticore is Justin Sinclair, but I don't remember what Liberty is (Something Duncan, I think), I don't remember what Psyche's name is (Something Tillman?) and so on.
Here, on the job it's Superguy. Off the job, it's Nelson Periwinkle von Flufenhauser. -
Never saw the movie, but it sounds essentially like the whip animations - or really any "ranged" one. As long as you're not using it to grapple, as that seems to cause other problems.)
-
I'm just going to be flat out honest and say, since we're not in the middle of buildings 100% of the time, I'd hate it for just looking really, really ridiculous. And yes, I *can* say that in a superhero game.
I can deal with superjump - water, when hit fairly hard, can feel *very* solid. So I can deal with that.
Grappling down the middle of, say, Independence port? No.
And as far as the flying carpet comment, that at least is self contained. It's the magic-based equivalent of the hoverboard.
Plus, I don't particularly like Durakken from prior posts, but that doesn't have anything to do with my dislike of the idea. -
Do you enjoy it?
If yes: Don't worry about other people. If they whine, stick 'em on ignore.
If no: Why are you doing it, then? -

Finally got rid of the car after the frame broke coming out of a parking lot. Yes, he didn't get rid of the car until it *broke in half.*)Same reason some people always feel they have to be driving the newest car.

And yes, I have to agree that the character models, more than anything, need updating. The COH team has done quite a bit, but - well, I see several games with people running around in full robes/dresses, characters with fingers, characters with more facial choices (separating eye color from facial type, for instance, giving options on scars/tattoos and their placement, giving us fairly realistic looking skin as opposed to plastic, etc.)
Oh, and

I mean, that's like complaining that if you had a kid, they wouldn't be born a working, self supporting adult. Well, *duh.* -

Quote:Tron is sorta-retro, sure. It is not, however, retro as in "space/sci fi" as described for the pack. It's more sorta-cyberpunk. For this sort of "retro?" Look at the stuff from the 50s. The suits might be *metallic* but not so much "glowie."Retro is outdated, B reminds me of tron which is retro so your wrong in saying it's "the least retro sci-fi". Since tron came out in 1982 it is retro sorry to burst your bubble.
... if they're not just wearing suits or uniforms.
Look at Space: 1999:
This is the sort of stuff I'm keeping in mind when picking these bits. -
Went with A. "Glowy" just doesn't really scream out "retro sci-fi suit," and A can also be used for a "non retro" base astronaut type suit. C worries me with pre-tinting.
Can the rings/ridges/etc. be a shoulder detail?
Also, I've got to say I'd like to know (unless I've missed this answer already) if these are unisex, and/or have an idea what the female version will look like. If we get "Male gets suit, female gets Jane Jetson's dress," I'll be ticked - though the art team has seemed to indicate they'll try to avoid that in the future. -
Absolutely not, at this stage of the game.
When it comes to "purpose," I'd like to see origin-related (and specific) story arcs, sure. But mechanical/stat dis/advantages? No.
You've got 8 years of player characters, millions of characters, sitting out there created with origins meaning nothing. Now you'll just slap advantages/disadvantages on them? End result: annoying the playerbase.
Besides, your descriptions are off. My peacebringers, for instance - forced to be natural - are not the way they are from "strict personal training," but from merging with an energy-based alien lifeform. And who says my mutants have "problems with self control?"
