This is actually mostly missing the real question:
If AS isn't a finishing move ... what the F*** is it then? Do the devs honestly intend enemies to survive it?

Play style for all primaries: a stalker uses placate buildup, as. AS is a finisher even in sets that have no combos. =)

Thinking about flow. BU-fin-com-com-com-fin is what the other ATs do.
Stalkers do bu-as-com-finish-com-com-com-finish. This is... silly. Not quite ridiculous, but definitely silly. I mean you can do BU-as-fin-com-com-com-fin. But I dunno if that's optimal, and either way, both stalker versions are inferior to the bu-fin-com-com-com-fin.

Beyond the bonuses being better for non-stalkers, it seems like that is a smoother feel. I haven't tried it both ways yet, so this is theory crafting and I would appreciate feedback from people with the hands on.

If AS was made a finisher and stalker BU gave 3 combo points just like everyone else's version then stalkers would have the same flow:

    BU-AS-com-com-com-fin vs others bu-fin-com-com-com-fin

Plus, stalkers would have the option to skip AS and do bu-fin-com-com-com-fin exactly like everyone else.

I really don't understand, why AS is a builder not a finisher?

I was thinking about getting the Predator badge for the 7.5% recharge bonus.
I'll second the vote to get the patron attack.

Also remember the supergroup recharge buff from enhancement stations. 1 hour of I think 5% recharge bonus (might be higher), and it persists through death. Totally worthwhile. I snag that and the knockback one and the recovery one very often.

When I build to exemp, I assume level 21. Which is pretty brutal scaling on the % bonuses. But then I end up playing at level 14 because those are some of my favorite missions hehe so the planning is wasted.

And I can never figure out an optimized level 14 build so I just saw screw it and go with whatever junk I can cobble together and call it good enough.

but I have fun and that's what really counts.

This doens't make any sense at all. Spending hours running missions, or spending hours running a task force... I don't see the difference. If you have to spend the hours doing SOMETHING anyway, a taskforce seems the way to go.

Not counting farming or powerleveling, it takes the same amount of time to level either way. How does spending that time on a task force make it worse?

Some grenade volleys are brutal. Same with a spawn full of shotgunners all shooting at once.

I didn't build with the idea of having 7. I didn't build with any goal at all, never do. I just happen to have 7, and can say that as a tank, 4 is definitely not enough. I get knocked around a lot. It is rare that I go 3 missions in a row without having issues. And on the iTrials I'm on the ground more than on my feet in some spawns.

And I may be glitched too. never underestimate that possibility =). But I have another character partway through black scorpion's arc. I'll see if I can't finish it off on Sat and specifically test.

Edit: I wasn't able to test this. The only relevant villains have already finished the arc so I can't 100% confirm if the /respec is from the arc or elsewhere. Got a bane at 33 I'm seeing what happens at 35.

Very nice suggestion! considering the non-stalker buildup equivalent gives 3 combo points and AS only two that's actually a really elegant way to create stronger parity between them.

    EDIT:
Ok purchased a Generic Lvl 50 Accy.
    Claimed 1 booster.
Attempted to boost while in Enhancement tray - Fail.
Put generic in Brawl and boosteed to +1. (SO, you can Only Boost a Slotted IO.)
Claimed 1 Unsloter. Unsloted Boosted Generic.
Attempted to enter Base - crashed.
    Reloaded and successfully entered base.
Attempted to put the Boosted IO in an empty Enhancement Storage Bin - red message "You cannot etc. ..." Tried on a Bin that had some in it - same message.
Attempted to email Boosted IO - red message- "You cannot etc. ..."

It Appears, At This Time, that BOOSTED IO's are BOUND to the Character that makes them, Period.

I am sure glad that I was careful to only boost pieces I know are certain to stay on my Main no matter what I do with the rest of the build.

Clearly you would commit few if any boosters to a toon you were not in love with .

Thank you for testing this! I was 99% sure that they were character bound not account bound. Not sure if that is working as intended or not, but good to know for sure.

Weird. then my account is happily bugged. Because I used two back-to-back /respec commands while standing at the market with my MM while gutting her of all IOs. And the respecs she had available were 1 from an issue and the 1 from the patron arc.

And just a few weeks ago I respecced my BS/Regen scrapper twice back-to-back using the i19 respec and the patron respec via the /respec command for both.

I've actually never been to the villain side respec contact.

I have two really big characters where I made a smaller version for teaming and indoors. That helps quite a bit. So I can say from experience that Zombie's advice is spot on (as always).

One of my friends made a caped version of his winged character that he Roleplays as the wings folded down.

Basically I've heard all sorts of different stories. Most people compliment ninjitsu as a secondary, however.

I've never seen anyone mention ninja, good or bad. I've heard one person say they loved kinetic combat, another who loved energy. You're the first I've seen mention spines or regen, so I get the feeling you're mocking me. (If so, I don't appreciate it. If you're serious, please explain this to me because I'm interested in how they work. I understand toxic damage is very desirable.) So... I am still at a loss.

I don't want to do claws, since it's too similar to night widows, and I don't want to do kinetic melee. My current stalker is dual blades(/super reflexes) but everyone is telling me how terrible it is. That's not my experience, but I'm level 20, not level 50.

I made a gravity dominator once, so I want to make sure I'm making the right choices before I commit.
I'm not serious at all, those are the worst sets out there for stalkers.

But since you posted the same thing in nearly every forum, it was pretty clear you didn't do any searching but just posted the question. So I didn't feel like answering it seriously.

To give a real answer, there is no "best" outside of brutes. For brutes SS/Fire/Soul is best singletarget, best aoe, best farming, best soloing, can drop AV's and some GMs solo. It does everything every other set does but better than that set does it. For all other ATs you gotta choose best at what.

Closest we get would be elec/nin which is spectacular AoE, well above average survivability, and decent single target damage.

So, best at what and we can give you real answers.

Of all the archtypes that have access to it, DB performs worst on stalkers. That is not the same as saying it is gimped. But rather that if you want a dual blade character, you'd have a more enjoyable experience on a scrapper. I ran a DB stalker into the 30s and had fun.But when I realized how much better it was everywhere else, I deleted the character and made a new one. I also recommend avoiding energy melee, BS and spines if you are a min/maxer. The rest you are pretty safe with.

Super Reflexes is a very strong set everywhere. Can't really go wrong with it. But you'll probably want to pickup aid self.

for me, that would guarantee I don't take it. I'll take a PBAoE that causes damage and gives a damage boost. I have respecced out of powerboost on all of my characters including controllers, corrupters and defenders and will not be taking it or any clone of it again, probably ever. I'll slot for duration and procs for magnitude. If I'm clicking something it better be making the target dead.

Yup, I know it does "great" stuff like boosting shields, so on. Don't care. It's just one more fiddly click that doesn't kill the enemy and prevents me from attacking when I want to. Make it a toggle and then you're talking my language.

Give us a damage aura or mez aura toggle that gives a powerboost per target affected. That would be new, would be cool, and could be balanced depending on the numbers. Doesn't have to be a ginormous bonus and shouldn't have fire/kin farming power. Just something new, and different, and shiny with a solid, reliable bonus that doesn't interrupt my attack chain.
  15. My two favorite dominators are my fire/fire and plant/ice.

I've tried every power in /ice. Frostbreath is a pathetic imitation of firebreath. Other than that, there is nothing bad in the set, all the powers are solid.

It activates fast enough, it does solid damage, it is the least resist damage type in the entire game, and it doesn't suck down endurance. It's not the best at anything, but it is reliable and it is good.

Because it isn't the best at anything, people ignore it in favor of "the best" for whatever they are trying to do.

I'm one of the few that I don't care about power boost. I've respecced out of it and have it on none of my current builds. It's just one more click that I don't remember to use.

Your pets will die, they will lag behind, they lack the same kind of burst damage that other ATs have to effectively complete objectives quickly, accurately, and consistently.

    ... snip ...

the faster your group goes, and the better the people you play with get at completing objectives, the less you will be able to contribute on an MM on such a team. It's just fact, it has nothing to do with your or any player or group of players its just the design of the archetype that they don't perform well in fast paced environments.
This depends on your definition of contribute. I found that the faster the team, the better the team, the more I leaned on my secondary and played support. The worse the team the more I relied on my primary to do damage.

But in both cases I contribute.

I'm not exactly sure how doppelgangers work, but if it counts as an NPC for base perception, that's only 50ft (54 if it's a boss). Danger Sense would only add 60%, which is not enough to see through Hide's 150ft stealth radius at any range.
I do not pretend to know the mechanics, but I have done this:

Ambush 1 (of 3). Stand in room near glowie that triggered the ambush but with hidden status. Longbow runs up to me and begins beating my face in. I kill them.

Ambush 2 (of 3). I step around corner away from the glowie. Longbow run up to the glowie and stand there like idiots talking about intruders. I walk up and do emotes at them but they can't see me. So I kill them.

Ambush 3 (of 3). I stay put with hidden status. They run up and start beating my face in. So I kill them.

Getting out of line of sight works. They are aggrod on you as they come in, it is not perception. But they appear (I'm guessing here) to be leashed to the location and not free to chase after you.

Plant/ is flat out fun. Great set.

and both earth/ and /earth are at their most fun on Doms. Having tried them on brutes and tanks and controllers they just work better in combo with our powers.

You can farm reasonably well on a stalker these days. With AoEs from secondary, pools, patron/APP, and judgment it's not an issue.

Plus, SS the be-all and end-all of farming primaries has exactly one AoE. All the rest you need to pickup outside the primary anyway.

So either there's something odd going on with it, or the Random Number Generator just hated me that day.
The random number generator has been controlled by the redcaps since 2006 at least. I keep hoping they will create a story arc that lets us go inside the RNG and defeat them so that once again random will be random, instead of right now where random is malevolent.

I tried making an AE arc but alas since it wasn't a fire ambush map, it was swiftly swept into oblivion.

I fear only the power of the devs can save us. And they're too busy with new costumes and power sets. We're clearly doomed.

You can't really blame NCSoft for your impulsiveness.
Potential correction, you'll get approximately 6 "paid" sets a year free and however many they give out completely free. If for some reason they put out a slew of 1200 point sets or they do more than six 800 point sets for multiple years in a row, then you might miss a few.

Still, look at what has to happen before something gets skipped hehe.
