Tell me about /icy assault

Heya.

I'm a bit curious about Icy Assault, I don't see it mentioned much here in the forum and I don't really see it much in the game either. Looking at it though It looks pretty cool, it's even got power boost. And the ice swords are pretty

How is it compared to the other dominator secondaries?

Ice assault isn't really discussed much, but not because there's anything *wrong* with it. It just isn't one of the standout flashy sets that does something special.

In many ways, ice is the middle of the road assault set. It's got decent ranged and melee, decent ST and AoE, some quick animations and some slower ones, a useful but not especially flashy secondary effect, a mostly ignorable utility power, and power boost. It doesn't excel at any one specific task, but performs reasonably well at most anything you'd ask an assault set to do. It isn't likely to blow you away in any particular area, but it offers solid performance overall.

And, as you mentioned, the swords are cool.

This is what it means to be a tank!

My best use for it was my earth/ice/fire whirlwinding, flying controller of the greek elements character. Power boost is nice, and yes, the swords are pretty. If ice melee ever gets ported to something other than tanks, I hope it includes Ice Sword Circle.

My two favorite dominators are my fire/fire and plant/ice.

I've tried every power in /ice. Frostbreath is a pathetic imitation of firebreath. Other than that, there is nothing bad in the set, all the powers are solid.

It activates fast enough, it does solid damage, it is the least resist damage type in the entire game, and it doesn't suck down endurance. It's not the best at anything, but it is reliable and it is good.

Because it isn't the best at anything, people ignore it in favor of "the best" for whatever they are trying to do.

I'm one of the few that I don't care about power boost. I've respecced out of it and have it on none of my current builds. It's just one more click that I don't remember to use.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It sounds like a nice solid set and that's good news to me. I'll make a snow spirit/snow nymph kind of character with plant/ice and test it out

Tasty. I run a Fire/Icy. PB+Flashfire means I have a hard AoE control most every spawn. Then Chilling Embrace and Hot Feet means any stragglers are too busy/slow to bother me much. I grabbed all the melee attacks, and only took Bitter ice Blast for ranged, since it is t3h sexy. Yes, have to take Tier 1... but they can't make me slot it!

On a Primary that'll leverage your ability to get into Melee and mix it up, /Icy is great.

I'm loving Elec/Ice. Conductive Aura and Chilling Embrace were made for eachother.

Icey is one of my favorite secondaries for Dominators. As said, it is nothing fancy and does not excel at anything, but does so many things right without being too flashy about it that it works.

It's basically the perfect Jack of all trades, master of none.

EDIT: it is also classy.

That's good to know

Truth to be told I've had so many character concepts floating about that I have not given a /ice dominator a spin yet. But I just checked back here now because I feel the urge for some icy dominating.

Hey, that's cool to hear. It's the combo I'm thinking about since I have never really tried elec control yet. It's either that or plant/ice, but I've already played plant so much.
