My thoughts went to the Death Cab for Cuties song Grapevine Fires.
The wind picked up, the fire spread
The grapevine singing, left for dead
The northern sky looked like the end of days, end of days
The wake up call to a rented room
Sounded like an alarm of impending doom
To warn us it's only a matter of time
Before we all burn
Before we all burn
Before we all burn
Before we all burn
Bought some wine and some paper cups
Near your daughter's school and we picked her up
Drove to the cemetery on a hill, on a hill
Watched the bullets paint the sky gray
She laughed and danced through the field of graves
There I knew we'd be alright
Everything will be alright
Will be alright
Will be alright
Will be alright
News reports on the radio said it was getting worse
As the ocean air fanned the flames
But I couldn't think of anywhere I would've rather been
To watch it all burn away, to burn away
The firemen worked in double shifts
With prayers for rain on their lips
They knew it was only a matter of time -
Where is a game addicted Tony Stark wannabe when you need one.

I'll be here as long as we have a game to play and a forum to chat in.
-
Don't worry, that info should be posted next week or two. NCSoft hasn't even acknowledged that they are closing CoH yet on any of their master websites. Not even a PR.
-
Any chance ClawsandEffect that you could mail a couple hundred baby tarantulas to NCSoft's offices in Seattle. I'm sure someone could come up with a package that'll open up in their mail room at night to disperse them.

Ah, ArenaNet is wholly owned by NCSoft since 2002. It's listed as an overseas subsidiary in their financial reports just like NCSoft's NA and EU divisions.
Don't believe me, then how about from the mouth of ArenaNet itself.
http://www.arena.net/aboutus/
I understand that someone who enjoys GW2 doesn't want to see that game blamed for what happened here but at least check your facts first. -
Ah, NCSoft owns ArenaNet since 2002, just like they own Paragon Studio except ArenaNet is identified in NCSoft's financials as a separate overseas subsidiary just like NC Europe and NC Interactive (the NA division).
-
I would assume so. Are Tabula Rasa's forums still up?
-
Maybe its because Aion or Lineage never really took off here. In Q2 CoH was 44% of NA and EU's revenue. That implies that Aion and Lineage was the other 56% give or take. To me that seems to indicate, when compared the the total revenues world wide Aion and Lineage I and II make, simply doesn't have the same level of popularity.
Perhaps cultural expectations in an MMO makes something like CoH unpopular in Korea while Aion and Lineage here, doesn't share in it's popularity in Korea. -
Quote:That was one of the first CoH music videos that I enjoyed, even downloaded the AVI file back when it was available when it first came out. I think of that video every time I hear that song. Unfortunately the alt rock station I listen to now plays it at least once a day (maybe the bands on tour and coming to the area soon, don't follow those sort of things).I want to leave a video that touched me - A city of heroes fan video that I seen a long time ago.

For some reason I had assumed the game would live forever
The other video from way back then was this one with the original Bonnie Tyler version of Holding Out For a Hero.

She's taking it better than I am.
Wish her and her sisters the best of luck in all of their future endeavors. Tell them to not forget the time when they could fly or jump really high or run really fast or teleport way over there. Tell them not to forget to fight evil where ever they find it. And tell them not to forget to help those weaker or smaller than themselves. Tell them to be the hero of their own story.
Best of luck. -
I just resubscribed for 14 months a month ago. I don't think there is anything that NCSoft has that I'm willing to take in exchange, not even one of those uber GW II packages that Felicia Day opened on her show.
-
I don't think it killed it. I do think ArenaNet will be next once the holidays are over. I can't see NCSoft continue to invest in MMO development that only succeeds in NA and Europe. I also suspect that Wildstar will not see the light of beta.

I started here with a couple of RL friends back in August of 2004. They didn't last long in the game and went onto other distractions while I remained.
I didn't sign up to the forum until almost a year later to submit a picture for the cameo in the comic book.
I didn't started posting in earnest when CoV was in Beta, helping out in the Tech forum. I don't post there as often anymore, favoring the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture section which are full of other comic, anime, movie and science fiction geeks. Most of reasons I had for helping in Player Questions have now been taken care of by a quick link to ParagonWiki.
I started a guide over four years ago suggesting both a low cost and medium cost parts lists for rigs that could play this game well.
And I still only have one Level 50 character. And he Father Xmas, still hasn't even finished all the pre-Incarnate content or even the pre-Praetorian retcon content. I never ran any SSA arcs, still have yet to do some of the original Task Forces and Trials with any character and haven't tried to IO set out any of them either.
I'm stuck behind dial-up because of where I live and this is one of the few MMOs I can solo in because of it's low bandwidth requirement. I really don't see myself playing another MMO again because of my internet situation, nobody designs for those of us living out in the boonies, the 19% that have no broadband option.
And here I was starting to design a utility that could read a /mypurchases dump and format it into a useful document listing what entire costume bundles you had purchased at the market or bought pre-Freedom.
I'm very sad right now. Yes the game will still be around for the next few months. NCSoft will try to offer those of us who have paid time until next year something in their other games, I prefer cash or credit rebate myself.
I just hope when the end of November comes, we'll have an event that'll put all other EOL events to shame. To quote Grig from The Last Starfighter
"I've always wanted to fight a desperate battle against incredible odds. " -
I think they held onto CoH just until GW2 came out. In the last reported quarter CoH was 44% of the revenue from NA and Europe. Now I expect the next few quarters you will see a big uptick due to GW2. Then I expect ArenaNet devs will be next unless GW2 has a significant real money store bringing in regular income.

Try the snipping tool that comes with Windows.

Yes it says Vista but Win 7 is really Vista 2. -

Well first, never trust sites like that, it's not like they actually test configurations, they are simply guessing. And since I didn't sign up and log in it's not even showing me what it thinks the frame rate should be.
And sorry while Intel's GMA 4500MHD is supported, it's even slower than the GeForce 4 MX I mentioned. Here is the notebookcheck page on the GMA 4500MHD and from it I quote;
Quote:and those "modern integrated graphics were modern in 2008". The GMA 4500MHD is 6 times slower than Intel's latest and Intel's latest is easily beaten by the most basic current discrete GPU from either AMD or nVidia.Compared to other modern integrated graphic cards ... the GMA 4500M HD noticably slower and provides less optimized drivers for games.
If you post a CoHHelper file (run as Administrator so we can see your game settings) we can help you tune the graphic settings but the results sure won't be "full FPS on the high settings". You can find instructions about where to get and how to run CoHHelper here. -
Those words always lead to disappointment.
The Intel HD Graphics 4000 is the best integrated GPU Intel has ever come up with. But that's like saying a 1500M runner's time was his personal best and not point out that besides coming in last place, but it was the first time he wasn't lapped by the rest of the field. Here's the gaming benchmark page from the latest Ultrabook review done at AnandTech. It's bit of a mixed bag at 1366x768 with low to medium settings.
I suspect the game should get over 30FPS frame rates at the highest non-ultramode setting (middle position on settings slider) at 720P-ish resolutions without AA, in older zones.
Still it's a SWAG on my part. -
Since you don't want help, illustrated by your reluctance to provide what was asked for, I'm done here. Sorry we couldn't diagnose your problem but we aren't NCSoft's technical support and some of us really don't like to take pot shots in the dark about what might be the problem or play 20 questions.
I do hope your problem goes away. -
Knew someone who went through a pulp fiction phase a few years ago but his collection were all real books and radio dramas. I remember there was a fair size chunk dealing with "The Spider". But this was pre-Kindle era so he wouldn't be on the lookout for e-book versions.

Well the first 4 were comedy, the last one was a bit of a downer.
-
And I just got one so not all of the NA codes at least have been used up. There are two NA lists, the code I used came from the first list.
