Ultrabook?

Hey all, I've been playing for a while, and I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm going to sell my behemoth of MSI GT780DX to my buddy.

So here is my question. Will CoX run on a ultrabooks? I know it's not going to be anywhere near my current laptop.

But lets face it, CoH is getting kinda old. So do you think the intel 4000 hd graphics (integrated graphics) could run CoH?
In the past you would say "no way a integrated gpu could run CoH!" but now... not so sure

I know a lot about computers, but specs are hard to compare sometimes. If anyone has any tips on what I should look for (besides the obvious of RAM, CPU, ect) please let me know.

I'm shooting for "quality" settings.
In theory it should work, but I've ran into odd problems in the past with this game. For some reason the system requirements don't seam to be right. I've seen someone play WoW fine, but then load up CoH and it be choppy even on the lowest setting.

I kinda want to bring in a copy of CoH to the store and ask them if I can install it. :P

If anyone is playing on a Ultrabook (or even a MBA) let me know how it does.
I'll post back if I find any info.

Thanks guys

Should be able to handle it. The game did launch eight years ago, so the lower end of the settings are designed for cheaper machines from that area. And I know my old Toshiba laptop used to run it just fine on an Intel on-chip system, so it ought to be fine. Can't guarantee it, and it may vary from one Ultrabook model to another, but I'd expect it to run smoothly, if not necessarily the most beautifully.

It's not so much an "Integrated GPU can't run this". It's "This integrated GPU doesn't have decent driver support for OpenGL, therefore the game, if it runs, runs like ***"

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

They've changed the "minimum system requirements" over the years, though. From another old thread on the topic:

It is indeed seven years, but the game has gone through significant changes, and that apparently includes what minimum hardware you can get away with using."

The computer I had when COH came out died long ago, but was having trouble running the game by 2006; the rather crappy computer I bought in 2005 and upgraded along the way could barely run COH a couple of years ago.

Your mileage may vary.

Those words always lead to disappointment.

The Intel HD Graphics 4000 is the best integrated GPU Intel has ever come up with. But that's like saying a 1500M runner's time was his personal best and not point out that besides coming in last place, but it was the first time he wasn't lapped by the rest of the field. Here's the gaming benchmark page from the latest Ultrabook review done at AnandTech. It's bit of a mixed bag at 1366x768 with low to medium settings.

I suspect the game should get over 30FPS frame rates at the highest non-ultramode setting (middle position on settings slider) at 720P-ish resolutions without AA, in older zones.

Still it's a SWAG on my part.
